Beijing Olympic Park Highlights: Must-See Features and Attractions
Some information may have been translated by Google Translate
Beijing Olympic Park is located at the northern end of Beijing's central axis extension. It embodies the three core concepts of "technology, green, and humanity," serving as a multifunctional urban area integrating offices, commerce, hotels, culture, sports, conferences, and residential spaces. Construction began in 2003, and the park officially opened on July 3, 2008. Not only does it act as an ecological barrier for the city, but it also served as a recreational retreat for athletes, coaches, and Olympic officials during the 2008 Games. After the Olympics, to promote the utilization of Olympic venues and facilities while providing public green space, the park's southern section was adjusted and opened free to the public on October 26, 2008. The northern section followed on September 30, 2009, achieving full public access. Post-Olympics additions include cruise services and commercial operations. Key attractions feature Yangshan Hill, Tianjing Scenic Area, Olympic Lake, Morning Blossoms & Evening Reflections, and the Forest Art Center.

Visit the "Rainbow Trees" before they're goneOnly half a month left! This rainbow🌈 at Olympic Forest Park South Garden is about to reach its peak✨ The "Rainbow Trees" at Olympic Forest Park are located in the South Garden, specifically near the "Ten Mirrors Sculpture." 📍 Precise location and route These "Rainbow Trees" are actually a grove of colorful Acer truncatum (Shantung maple) trees. Because the leaves display a mix of red, yellow, and green, they are known as "Rainbow Trees." Key landmark: Navigate to "Ten Mirrors Sculpture." The rainbow grove is right next to the sculpture. Recommended entrance: The South Garden West Gate is the most convenient entrance. Walking route: After entering from the West Gate, follow the path straight for about 10 minutes to find it. Other reference: Some notes also mention that the rainbow trees are opposite the "Sunken Corridor," which can serve as an additional landmark. 🚇 Transportation guide Subway: Take Subway Line 8 to "Forest Park South Gate" station. Exit from Exit B and walk for about 15 minutes to reach the South Garden South Gate. Driving and parking: If driving, you can navigate directly to the parking lot at the South Garden West Gate, which is closest to the rainbow grove. 📸 Photo tips Best time: The light is softer between 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, making the colors in your photos look even better. Shooting angle: Try standing under the trees and using an ultra-wide-angle lens to shoot upwards. This captures the stunning effect of the leaves intertwined with the blue sky. Weather: Be sure to go on a sunny day. The leaves look translucent and beautiful only when there is sunlight. Outfit advice: Wear light-colored clothing, such as white or beige, to complement the colorful leaves for great photos. ✨ Tips Free admission: Olympic Forest Park is open for free and does not require an admission ticket. Viewing period: The viewing period for the rainbow trees is relatively short, usually peaking in mid-to-late October. They are also very susceptible to wind, so it's best to check the weather before you go. Focus on the South Garden: The autumn scenery in the South Garden is currently at its peak, while the autumn scenery in the North Garden is nearing its end. It is recommended to go directly to the South Garden.Isabella456 Foster

Don't wait, go now! 🎯 Here are the highlights! Best photo spots with the Big Nail I've marked the map for you 🗺️ 1️⃣ Under the ginkgo tree farthest from Aosen, use your phone to shoot upwards to get the Big Nail in the frame 2️⃣ The path in front creates a winding, extended look with great depth 3️⃣ Between the two trees to the back right of the purple non-motorized equipment, it creates a natural frame 4️⃣ Walk forward and use the bench as a foreground for an incredibly atmospheric shot 📍 Basic info Address: Olympic Forest Park Observation Tower 🚇 Subway: Olympic Park Station, Exit G is closest, Exit C also works 📅 Best viewing period: Oct 25–Nov 5 ⏰ Shooting hours: All day 8:00 AM–4:30 PM 🎫 Admission: Free! Free! Free! 🦮 This place is pet-friendly! You can bring your fur babies to run around It's also great for kids, with non-motorized children's facilities Perfect for both taking photos and hanging out with the kids~ 📸 Photography tips For portraits, I recommend using a telephoto lens + a low angle Keep your phone low to capture both the ginkgo trees and the Big Nail in the same frame Stand further back and have the photographer crouch down. Having legs for days is not just a dream! 💡 Autumn sightseeing tips From the Beitucheng North Central Axis Sightseeing Avenue all the way to Aosen The ginkgo trees are all golden! They've reached their peak! Leaves are expected to start falling within 2 weeks, so hurry up and go!Ross Justin Jus

A Night Where Past and Future Collide: A Breathtaking Light Show at Beijing Olympic ParkThe legacy of the 2008 Beijing Olympics is still very much alive here. Towering over the expansive grounds, the National Stadium, affectionately known as the "Bird's Nest," features a striking steel exterior that resembles intricately woven giant branches. I learned that this complex yet perfectly balanced structure was actually based on simple geometric patterns. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the stadium began to glow in a magnificent golden hue—a sight so moving it truly warmed my heart. Right next door is the National Aquatics Center, or the "Water Cube." True to its name, it boasts a highly original design mimicking a cluster of water droplets and bubbles. What blew me away the most was the ETFE "air cushion" material used for its exterior walls. I was told this creates a fantastic insulation effect, contributing to massive savings on heating costs. At night, the building transforms with a mesmerizing blue and green illumination, making you feel like you've stepped straight into a sci-fi movie. The public areas are open 24/7 for free and are just a short walk from Olympic Park Station on Subway Line 8. Personally, I found dusk to be the most magical time. The moment the orange silhouette of the Bird's Nest contrasts perfectly with the glowing blue Water Cube is an absolute dream for photographers. 🕒 Best Time to Visit: Arriving after 4:00 PM is highly recommended so you can enjoy both the sunset and the nighttime illuminations. ⚠️ Note: Be aware that the Water Cube is closed on Mondays. 📸 Photography Pro-Tip: Bring a tripod and frame both landmarks from the bridge on the northern central axis.SYH53
New Hotel in Beijing | Staying in the Heart of the Olympic AreaI noticed a new hotel here when I passed by Beichen a while ago. I finally found some time these past two days to stay a night at the [Beijing Marriott Hotel Olympic Park]. The Olympic Park area has always been a favorite of mine: the open urban landscape, the constantly evolving architecture, and the daily life where the Olympic Forest Park and city living intertwine. Staying here this time felt like getting a closer look to touch the pulse of Beijing today. Walking into the lobby, the first thing that caught my eye was the welcoming pine tree in the center. Tree shadows and lights fell on the floor, and there wasn't much clutter. Walking further in, paintings and installations in other areas slowly appeared; some carried hints of old Beijing architecture, while others were simpler and more modern. Familiar city memories weren't copied exactly, but reappeared in new ways. Returning to the room, this feeling naturally continued. Solid wood tones and light colors made the space feel calm and spacious. When natural light came in during the day, the black-and-white painting at the head of the bed retained the outline of old Beijing architecture, yet it was subtly rendered. Outside the window is today's city, and inside the room, you can see the traces left by this city; the two blend seamlessly together. After staying here, I felt the most special thing about this hotel is that it doesn't isolate itself from Beijing. It feels more like a part of the current Olympic Park area, placing the things left behind by the city's past and the new changes happening now into the same space. Next time I want to spend a relaxing weekend in Beijing, I would be willing to come back and stay another night, and maybe take a walk in the Olympic Forest Park.Wilson-~Liam

You can get great shots straight away, no need to wait~ 📍 Recommended taxi drop-off location is in picture 4️⃣ 🚇 Take Subway Line 15 to Olympic Park Station, Exit G Parents can also bring their little ones to see the ginkgo trees The sight of two kids walking under the shade of the trees in the park is so healing 👧👦 🌈 If you want to see more autumn colors You can also plan to visit the Olympic Forest Park "God Tree" ➕ flowers on the same day Get your fill of Beijing's autumn all at once!MAX MANNING

Olympic Fall Color🍂Late afternoon at Beijing’s Olympic Park, wandering beneath a canopy of gold and crimson. The Olympic towers rose above the autumn leaves, while the setting sun shimmered across the water. A quiet, colorful moment—and a ginkgo leaf to take home in memory. Last week of October 🍁 🍂 Getting between the two spots: Start at Olympic Park Station on Metro Lines 8 or 15 and use Exit G. From there, follow the route toward the Hehe Archway and Olympic Tower West Gate 1 to explore the Olympic Park’s golden ginkgo trees. To reach Aosen South Garden, head to its South Gate; if driving, navigate to the East Side Ground Parking Lot. The garden is free to enter, with no appointment needed. #autumnvibes #travel2026 #thingstodo #citydaytoursIris-ka1
Beijing's free hidden gem | Olympic Forest Park South Park, see the Bird's Nest reflection📍Address: 33 Kehui Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing 🎫Admission: Free, no reservation required ⏰Hours: Open all day. We recommend starting in the afternoon to avoid the heat. 🚇Transportation Take Subway Line 8 to [Forest Park South Gate Station]. You'll arrive directly at the South Gate of the South Park, making it the most convenient way to travel. 🗺️Recommended family-friendly lake loop (flat with no steep slopes, stroller-friendly) South Gate > Colorful lakeside cycling path > Olympic Tower photo spot > Aohai Lake (Bird's Nest reflection spot) > Chinese-style archway > Lawn rest area > Exit at South Gate The whole route takes about 2–3 hours with stops along the way. You can rest on the lakeside lawn whenever you get tired, making it perfect for kids. 🌟Key highlights ▫️Olympic Tower (Nail tower) Five tall towers reach toward the sky, with the iconic five-ring logo at the top. The lakeside trail is shaded by trees, and the colorful cycling path is full of energy. You can rent an e-scooter/bicycle to cruise along the lake, feeling the breeze through the trees and the scent of fresh grass. ▫️Aohai Lake · Bird's Nest reflection spot When the lake is calm, the Bird's Nest and Linglong Tower reflect in the water, shimmering in the light. Surrounded by trees and with few tourists, it's easy to capture a serene, healing vibe. The Chinese-style archway paired with modern Olympic architecture creates a unique blend of ancient and modern atmosphere. The entire lakeside trail is not crowded, making it suitable for walking, cycling, taking kids out, or having a picnic. In spring and summer, with blue skies and white clouds, everything is lush and green—you can take stunning, healing photos with just your phone. 📸Photo spots & lighting tips Use a low-angle shot of the Olympic Tower from the lakeside trail, using trees as the foreground to add depth to your photos. For the Bird's Nest reflection, shoot from the lakeside with plenty of negative space on the water for a clean, crisp look. Best time to shoot: 3–4 PM, when the light is soft and the sky is blue with white clouds, without being too harsh. 🚲On-site rentals There is a rental station at the South Gate where you can rent family bicycles and e-scooters. Cycling around the lake saves energy and is the top choice for families with kids. 💡Family travel tips Outfit: Light-colored clothing matches the greenery and blue sky better for photos; wear comfortable sneakers. Protection: Sun hat and sunscreen are must-haves; there's a lot of vegetation by the lake, so remember to bring mosquito repellent. Supplies: Bring your own drinking water, snacks, and a picnic mat. Prices at the convenience stores inside the park are on the higher side. Kid-friendly items: You can bring bread to feed the wild ducks in the lake, which kids love; bring a bubble machine to create a great atmosphere for photos on the lawn. Note: Keep an eye on your children by the lake, stay away from the water's edge, and prioritize safety.Lee Katherine Kath
Olympic Park, a great place for a walkBeijing Olympic Park is a rare natural oasis in the city, combining Olympic landmarks with pristine natural scenery. It attracts visitors year-round for walking, sightseeing, and relaxation 🌳. The park is spacious and peaceful, with lush vegetation, making it a treasured spot for locals to unwind and for travelers to explore. The vast sunflower fields are a popular photo spot in the park 🌻. Every summer and fall, golden and deep red sunflowers cover the entire field, with warm sunlight shining on the flower heads, creating a soothing scene. Many visitors stop to take photos in the sunflower sea. Young women dress in fresh outfits to capture atmospheric shots, parents bring children to admire the sun-facing flowers up close, and photography enthusiasts wait patiently to capture the perfect blend of flowers and clear sky. A gentle breeze sways the flowers in waves, and every snapshot is a calming view that makes visitors reluctant to leave. Deep within the park lies a large area of untouched forest, like stepping into a quiet woodland 🌿. Towering trees with dense branches and leaves have trunks wrapped in hanging moss. Shaded paths wind through the greenery. The shade blocks out the city heat, and the air is filled with the fresh scent of plants. Many visitors who prefer quiet stroll alone along the stone paths, listening to birdsong and the wind. Older visitors walk together slowly, breathing fresh air to relax. Hikers take gentle steps along forest stairs, escaping city noise to fully immerse in nature’s tranquility. There are also shallow ponds with shimmering water surrounded by aquatic plants. Occasionally, small fish swim by, creating ripples that add to the peaceful atmosphere. The Olympic Tower is the park’s iconic landmark 🗼. Several tall towers soar into the sky, set against blue skies and white clouds, creating a modern aesthetic. The wide lake reflects the towers, making the water and sky blend into a magnificent view. Many visitors come specifically to see the Olympic landmark. Tour groups pause here for guided explanations, couples admire the full view of the towers by the lake, and cyclists ride slowly along the lakeside path. The flat, open lakeside road is perfect for walking or jogging. The smooth surface, shaded trees, and wide views make for a refreshing experience after completing the route. Visitors enjoy the park in many ways 👨👩👧👦. Families fly kites and play on the open lawns. Fitness enthusiasts run, cycle, and stretch here. Young people in traditional Hanfu or modern Chinese-style outfits wander through the forest and flower fields, taking atmospheric photos. Travelers from afar admire the natural greenery while checking in at Olympic-themed buildings, experiencing the unique blend of modern city and natural ecology. There is no crowd or noise, only trees, flower fields, lake water, and gentle breeze. Olympic Park is more than a scenic spot; it is a healing corner hidden in the city center. Stroll through the shaded paths, encounter the flower sea, and gaze at the Olympic towers. Every view calms the restless heart. Whether for a short break, a leisurely walk, or sightseeing, this place offers visitors a relaxing and pleasant experience.JacksonByrnek1

Show More ReviewsAfter a day trip to the Badaling Great Wall, the drop-off point happened to be the Bird's Nest, so I took a good look around. The scenery was pretty good, and the design was also quite nice. However, the location was a bit out of the way, and there was no way to access other nearby attractions.
