JEN Hangzhou by Shangri-La

Room facilities: Everything you need. Having a kitchen-like platform in a hotel of this caliber is a highlight; it suddenly made it feel like home, which is great 👍👍👍 Value for money: Acceptable with group buy deals 👍👍👍 Breakfast: Semi-buffet style. Although you can't get 'free' refills with the semi-buffet, I wasn't quite used to it, and the variety of food in the buffet area was limited. If the goal is to prevent waste, they might as well switch to an à la carte system; otherwise, it feels like you can't 'eat your fill.' I'm more accustomed to the traditional buffet breakfast. It feels a bit out of character for a Shangri-La hotel to adopt this model. I hope hotel management considers feedback from various online reviews and makes improvements; I believe it would lead to even more business 🤝🤝🤝 Wi-Fi: Smooth and unobstructed 👍👍👍 Bed: Comfortable 👍👍👍 Restaurant: Nice layout 👍👍👍 Hygiene: Tidy, cozy, and clean 👍👍👍 Room view: The floor-to-ceiling windows are very grand 👍👍👍 Location and transportation: Metro Line 5 is right next door, providing excellent connectivity. The factory building diagonally opposite the hotel is still under construction; once it's fully renovated, this entire area should become a popular 'influencer spot' and very 'appealing' 👍👍👍 Service: Upon arrival at the hotel, the front desk gentleman was very kind and amiable, trying his best to accommodate my requests. In fact, he had already called me the day before, which was very thoughtful. This must be the management philosophy of a big brand. I'm very satisfied with this gentleman; he's handsome, kind-hearted, and efficient. I 'secretly' glanced at his name tag: Liu Jiale ⭐⭐⭐ Swimming pool: Well-designed, seemingly the most creative I've ever seen. The staff (gentlemen and ladies) have a strong sense of service 👍👍👍 This is a newly opened hotel, a trendy brand under Shangri-La called JEN. This visit was a trial to check it out. The style is indeed different from a typical Shangri-La hotel. The guest room corridors feel like a European castle, while the room layout and the 6th-floor Chinese restaurant have a 'Muji' aesthetic – simple, clear, generous, yet without losing a sense of 'elegance.' Aside: When the taxi dropped me off at the hotel entrance, the driver poked his head out and asked, 'What hotel is this? What's it called?' The security guard replied, 'It's Shangri-La.' The driver asked again, 'What? Shangri-La looks like this?' The security guard said, 'It's a branch...' It was a very amusing exchange, and I overheard every word. 'JEN' is indeed a difficult name to pronounce. If it had a Chinese suffix, it would be perfect, as Chinese is profound and could better reflect Shangri-La's corporate culture 👍👍👍 The above are just my thoughts, for reference only. However, the overall experience definitely deserves a five-star rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The room was great—spacious, bright, and very clean. The hotel is in a quiet area, yet getting around is very convenient. One downside is that food deliveries are only left downstairs without a delivery robot to bring them up, and the front desk won't deliver them either. You have to go down and pick them up yourself, which is a bit of a hassle.

The hotel is very new with no strange odors, and the rooms are cleaned to a high standard. The fitness facilities are well-equipped, and the breakfast features very fresh vegetables and fruits, along with some local specialties. Clover was enthusiastic and professional; besides handling the check-in process smoothly, she also kindly recommended nearby sights and local culinary gems.

1. The lobby is quite small, and the entrance is also tiny, giving it a minimalist feel similar to a Hanting Hotel. 2. The rooms are cramped. We booked a city view room and a suite, and the city view room was particularly small. 3. The restaurant is small. Breakfast is a set meal per person (1 main dish, 3 side dishes) along with self-service fruits, yogurt, and small pastries (which feels like a cost-cutting measure). If you want more of the main dish, you have to order and pay extra. 4. Regarding the suite, I booked it with high expectations, but was quite disappointed. The outdoor tables and chairs were covered due to the rain (can't blame the hotel, just bad luck on our part), and the terrace area wasn't as large as depicted in the promotional images. The hotel explained that each suite type has a different layout, and you get whatever is assigned. I saw a square bathtub in the suite's promotional pictures, but our room had a standard bathtub. Also, the promotional images showed a bathtub with a window on one side, but in reality, our bathtub was placed further inside, next to the shower. So, if you're planning to book a suite, you might want to inquire with the hotel beforehand. The suite did have a living room, and an induction cooktop and a water dispenser on the island counter. The shower in the room made a loud noise, suggesting an issue with the drainage system. 5. Service was a mixed bag: They called beforehand to ask about our check-in time and room preferences, and mentioned they would prepare something for our anniversary. We got towel swans on the bed and a very, very, very mini cake. However, after checking in around 1 PM, we called to request a bucket of ice and toiletries for the children. By almost 6 PM, they still hadn't arrived. Finally, we mentioned it to the staff who came to deliver fruits, and only then did someone come to ask us what we needed. 6. The hotel is located in Hangzhou Kerry Centre, but the Kerry Centre itself isn't open yet, so there aren't many walkable dining options nearby. If you order takeout, you have to go down to the first floor to pick it up yourself. 7. The restaurant, being new, didn't have much to offer, and the afternoon tea was quite simple. 8. The pool is small but lovely when the sun is out.

I think this price is a great deal in Hangzhou! The pool 🏊‍♀️ and gym are super impressive, perfect for taking some high-end photos. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Even after getting an air purifier, I didn't notice the strong smell that some other reviews mentioned. Overall, it was a really great experience!

The hotel features a minimalist and fresh design. I was pleasantly surprised with a room upgrade upon check-in, along with complimentary daily breakfast for two. The gym and pool area are very clean, spacious, and well-equipped. They also offer a complimentary bowl of Pian'er Chuan (local noodles) as a midnight snack, which tasted fantastic.

Staying at the newly opened Shangri-La Jen, my experience exceeded expectations! Jen struck me as very modern, a complete departure from the 'slightly rigid' impression I usually have of Shangri-La (even the lobby scent was different). The hotel facilities were excellent in detail: the air conditioning was super quiet (I'm very sensitive to noise), and the cooling effect in summer was absolutely spot-on (a little too cold, even). The one-touch hot and cold water in the room was also very convenient, saving me from having to boil kettles. It's a shame there was no coffee machine. The bathroom was spacious, and the upgraded deluxe twin room had a large bathtub. I was very satisfied with the gym facilities; the privacy details in the changing rooms were truly impressive. Although not large, the space was very well laid out. The studio could use a few more pieces of equipment, and it would be nice to have bananas and hot coffee available. The outdoor pool would be perfect with a jacuzzi. However, the transparent natural light made me feel very comfortable, and the water quality was excellent! Special praise goes to all the staff: Clover (I hope I'm spelling that right) at the front desk was kind enough to assist me for two days and was very responsible, following up on many small issues. The gym staff were also very friendly. Perhaps consider adding a welcome drink or a self-service cafe & tea in the lobby. Overall, I'm very satisfied! The surrounding area is still under development, but it's only about 2-3 km by taxi to West Lake. I actually quite like the current quiet and uncrowded surroundings, and I slept very well for both nights.👍

This is a newly opened hotel, and there are just too many things to complain about. 1. The smell was very strong. After sleeping there for one night, I had a sore throat and a dry cough. Even using an air purifier didn't help. 2. All the room windows are completely sealed and cannot be opened, so there's no ventilation. 3. A part of the carpet in the room wasn't cleaned properly. 4. There was only half a roll of toilet paper in the bathroom (they're really cutting corners). 5. For a high-end hotel, the breakfast is semi-buffet style, where you can only choose between Chinese and Western options. The Chinese breakfast was just a bowl of wontons, a fried dough stick, and a pancake, and they charge 115 yuan for that – absolutely ridiculous! 6. For a high-end hotel, sometimes there's no greeter at the entrance. Pros: 1. The gym on the 6th floor is excellent 👍 The environment and facilities are great!
