Phoenix statue with Do hall 々
Original Text
It is a monument built to commemorate the landing of Hakodate by Emperor Meiji in July 1876. It seems that the current sea day was the anniversary of the sea because I arrived safely in Yokohama on July 20 from the pilgrimage at this time, but this time I learned it for the first time. It was a very dynamic bronze phoenix.

Original Text
Looking at the direction of Kisaka from the front of the Maritime Self-Defense Force Hakodate Hakodate Base Corps, there was a fairly large monument. There was an explanation board nearby and I knew what the monument was commemorating. A phoenix was attached to the top and was facing Mt. Hakodate. On the contrary, when I looked at it from the sea side, it became the back side of the phoenix and it was difficult to check what was riding.
A monument was built because Emperor Meiji visited this place for a first visit in 1897. 5 The Emperor visited this place even after a year, which may have become the pride of the citizens of Hakodate at that time. The author is Goichi Yanagawa, who produced the statue of Kahei Takataya on Gokoku Shrine slope. This phoenix faces Mt. Hakodate under the base slope, so the former Hakodate Ward Public Hall is automatically located beyond the line of sight. By the way, the day when Emperor Meiji returned to Yokohama from the visit was July 20, and it became the anniversary of the present sea and became the national holiday.
It is a monument to the landing of the Hakodate of Emperor Meiji in July 1876, which was the origin of "Sea Anniversary".

It is located in the green belt, a little up from the main gate of the Maritime Self-Defense Force Hakodate Base Corps headquarters to Kisaka. It was built in 1935 (Showa 10) to commemorate the landing from the pier of the former Hakodate Customs (currently the Maritime Self-Defense Force Hakodate Base Corps Headquarters) during the visit of Emperor Meiji on July 20, 1876 (Meiji 9). July 20 is called "Sea Memorial Day (later national holiday Sea Day: July 3rd Monday)".
The middle zone of an ordinary road with not much traffic was a lawn, in the middle of it. It was a statue of a phoenix flapping in bronze at the top of a tall stone pillar.
