Dafo Temple

Shanxi Province, Lushan County is the hometown of the first ancestor of agriculture, is also a cultural relics county in Shanxi, and there are countless historical monuments in the territory. It was built in the second year of the Golden Emperor (1142 AD) of the Lushan Foge Temple, located on a high cliff 1 km northeast of the county seat, because the main hall of the temple is dedicated to a mound of Buddha statues of cliffs, so commonly known as the Big Buddha Temple. The Big Buddha Temple is backed by the loess cliff and faces the river. The symmetrical bell tower and drum tower on both sides of the Temple of Heavenly Kings are one of the "Eight Views of Lushan" in the Ming Dynasty. Enter the mountain gate and climb to the highest point, and the panoramic view of the entire county is in sight. It is said that the temple is located in the dragon vein, and has been known as the "three counties of one Buddha town" (Lushan, Xinyi, Hejin) since ancient times. The temple is dedicated to a large carved Buddha with a height of more than 20 meters, a width of6.7 meters, and a magnificent earthen sculpture. There are also ten king caves and 16 Luohan caves carved in the Yuan Dynasty on both sides of the temple. The Tibetan Bodhisattvas and 16 Luohans are the fine sculptures of the Yuan Dynasty. During the temple fair of the 20 Lushan Buddha in the first month of the lunar calendar, nearby residents will go to the temple to burn incense and pray for blessings, which is very lively. Sitting firmly in the center of the hall, the Buddha in the mountains, the body is carved into pure loess, eyes are flat, smiling, left hand hanging on the left knee, right hand holding the "statement print", higher than the largest Buddha statue in Yungang Grottoes, known as "the world's first earthly sculpture Buddha". Visitors in such a huge Buddha statue, a sense of awe arises. According to the "Zhishan County" record, there were 18 earthquakes in Lushan, especially the Yuan to Zheng seven years (1347) and Ming Jiajing years of Shanxi eight-magnitude earthquake, resulting in the land cracked water surge in Lushan County, the city was destroyed, but the Buddha was intact. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Japanese army shelled the Big Buddha Temple, and the cannon was silent for no reason after a shell hit the right arm of the Big Buddha. Half a century later, the Japanese veteran who shelled the Big Buddha came to the Big Buddha Temple in Busan to kneel in front of the Big Buddha to confess. He said this was the greatest sin of his life, and his heart was never at peace, so he came to beg Buddha for forgiveness and let him have a safe old life. In May 2004, the temple was hit by lightning and the roof was burned and collapsed, while the Buddha was unscathed, so many miracles clearly cannot be explained by luck. The ancestors living in northern China not only used loess to build houses and grow crops, but also created such incredible cultural wonders, which can be called a world-class.

In the Chinese cultural and expo world, there is a saying that "the cultural relics on the ground look at Shanxi, and the cultural relics in Shanxi look at Jinnan". Jinnan mainly refers to Yuncheng and Linyi City. On the high cliff 1 km northeast of Lushan County, Yuncheng City, there is a Lushan Giant Buddha Temple built in the second year of the Golden Emperor (1142), which is dedicated to a giant Jin Dynasty earth Buddha, known by cultural relics experts as the "world's first earth sculpture Buddha". The entire temple is north and south, and has been rebuilt and expanded many times during the Yuan, Ming and Qing periods. Now it covers an area of 1.5 10,000 square meters. Entering the mountain gate, the steps are up, and the central axis is built in turn, with the Temple of Heavenly Kings, the Great Hall, the Bell and Drum Tower, the Stele Corridor, Wenshu Temple, Puxian Temple, and the 18 Luohan Cave. The Daxiong Pavilion built on the cliff is a pavilion-style building. The temple is dedicated to a Buddha sitting on the Buddha statue of Sakyamuni. The Buddha statue is 20 meters high and6.7 meters wide, and it colludes with the whole pavilion. Climbing up the wooden ladder to the top of the building, you can not only see the whole body of the Buddha statue, but also the panoramic view of the city. On both sides of the Daxiong Palace, there are also ten king caves and 16 Luohan caves carved in the Yuan Dynasty. Since the Yuan Dynasty, there have been 18 earthquakes in Busan County, but the Big Buddha is still standing, known as "one Buddha town and three counties". According to the "Zhishan County Zhi" record: Yuan Zhizheng seven years (1347) "the land cracked water surge, the city fell into the house, but the big Buddha is not bad"; the eight-magnitude earthquake in Shanxi during the Ming Jiajing years "the county town of Lushan is completely destroyed, the big Buddha is not bad". This obviously can not be explained by luck. On May 1, 2004, the Big Buddha Temple was hit by lightning and fire, and the wooden structure was ash and smoke. Only the Big Buddha was intact. The local folk rumored that "the earth is a Buddha, and the world is the same, and it is not broken." From this time, the temple has been famous and the fragrant is like a cloud. According to experts, this pure loess carved Buddha because there is no flammable items such as wooden skeleton in the body, it will be lucky to escape the fire. The ancestors living in the loess belt in northern China not only used loess to grow crops and build houses, but also created cultural wonders such as the Busan Buddha, which is a must in the world. Every year on the 20th day of the lunar calendar, tens of thousands of local people and tourists will come to the Busan Buddha Temple to ascend "Naxiang", praying for the wind and rain in the new year, the national Taimin'an.
