The Ando Museum is in the main village of Naoshima, which is far from the Chichu Art Museum. You must take the island’s minibus. The Ando Museum looks like an ordinary small Japanese village house with a low wall. Open the curtain and enter the courtyard. The small courtyard is covered with small rocks like the dry landscape of Kyoto. There is only a conical glass cover in the courtyard, which is the main source of natural light in the underground space. Ando, the master of light and shadow, made this little light to make the dark underground more interesting.
Tadao Ando’s works on Naoshima include Chichu Art Museum, Lee Ufan Art Museum and Benesse House Hotel. These three places are relatively concentrated, just walk. The Ando Art Museum is still far away from these three places, so you must take a minibus. Unlike most of Tadao Ando’s designs with small holes in the cement wall, the Ando Art Museum is a small wooden house that is very old. The main exhibits inside are related materials of the Chichu Art Museum designed by Tadao Ando. Can't take pictures.
The Ando Museum has a nice view, distinctive architecture, a good choice, interesting, knowledgeable, and cost-effective. It is worth recommending to everyone. I have learned a lot of knowledge and the environment is comfortable.
The Ando Museum is also the Tadao Ando Museum. It is not with Tadao Ando's Chichu Art Museum, but needs to take a dot bus to the village. This is a typical Japanese-style country house, an old-fashioned wooden hut, which is typical of Ando's fair-faced concrete style. What you can see in the courtyard is a glass cone, which is one of the sources of underground lighting in the Ando Museum.
It is now a training center for experiencing nature. The shape fits the mountain, and the wide open windows fully experience the beauty of the natural landscape. The interior is clean and tidy, and the wood texture is just right to reveal a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Come out and climb the hill opposite, there are a few tree house viewing platforms, which seem to be very popular in Japan.
