Tucked away on a back street this temple can be difficult to find - the area surrounding it is called "maze" town. We biked around a bit, closing in on the temple by setting our sights on the pagoda....

The vermilion tower stands out.

The site itself may be small, but it stands out because there is a tall vermilion tower on a thick hill. The mountain gate is also magnificent.

It is a Buddhist temple in the city of Shodoshima Tosho, and is No. 58 of Shodoshima Sacred Ground. There is a small free parking lot in front of the gate, and the worship fee is free. I visited on a weekday afternoon in April, but there were no other worshipers. The main shrine is also magnificent, but when I climbed the stairs from the side of the main shrine, there was a new three-storied pagoda.

It is a beautiful vermilion temple.
