Songyang Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Yangjiatang Village Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Please heed this advice before you head to Songyang!
Life is about witnessing the last secret realm of Jiangnan at least once, right?
But before you go, there are things you need to know‼️
-
👉 Mode of Transportation
It is recommended to rent a car or drive yourself after taking the high-speed train!
Most of the ancient villages in Songyang are scattered in the mountains, and it often takes 30-40 minutes to drive from one village to another. It's really inconvenient without a car.
There's almost no nightlife
-
The preservation of the ancient villages here is superb, completely different from the temperament of Moganshan and Anji. They usually won't extend their working hours to accommodate your 'city schedule', so if you're looking to experience the nightlife of bars and late-night snacks in the mountains?
This might not be the place for you, please switch to the local mountain dwellers' schedule!
It's too late for anyone to cook dinner for you.
Mountain restaurants close early, remember to eat early, and if it's late, call ahead to confirm, so you don't go hungry. I finished dinner at seven and some owners had already closed (although a certain platform indicated they close at eight).
-
🌿 It's suggested to slow down and deeply experience everything here
If you are a photography enthusiast, you can go crazy checking in at various ancient villages; but if not, don't rush, taking it slow for a deeper experience is better.
-
🐜 Mosquito Prevention
As the weather warms up, it's inevitable to encounter mosquitoes in the mountains, and there might even be more in the summer. If you're really scared of these, it's best to bring along some brave friends, or choose a star-rated hotel for a staycation.
-
🗺️ What to Play (I played these during my 3 days and 2 nights stay in Pingtian Village)
-
✅ Chenjiapu Village: An ancient village on the cliff, Feiwuji B&B Coffee and the Pioneer Bookstore are landmarks (but Feiwuji B&B does not accept non-residents for visits, another cafe is available to go to, the scenery is amazing).
-
✅ Yangjiatang Village: 'The last secret realm of Jiangnan', a popular spot for social media check-ins, with a big tree at the village entrance and curling smoke, very photogenic! But once it became famous, it's no longer a secret, and everyone is queuing up to take photos with the big tree.
-
✅ Pingtian Village: A village above the clouds, so tranquil it's breathtaking, and the mountain scenery behind the village is full of surprises! Staying here for two nights felt like I had the whole village to myself, super peaceful! A place rarely visited by others.
-
✅ Songyang Old Street: A quaint street with many craftsmen and snacks, and the same No. 9 Coffee as Gao Yuanyuan is waiting for you to check in!
-
🌟 Food and Drink Recommendations
👉 Xikeng Village Frog Brother Restaurant (Home-style stir-fry, the taste is amazing!)
👉 Wang's Kitchen next to Songyang Old Street (The stream fish is incredibly delicious!)
👉 No. 9 Coffee on Songyang Old Street (The desserts are top-notch, definitely not to be missed!)
👉 Grandpa's Coffee in Pingtian Village (The view on the second floor is picturesque, a great place to enjoy coffee!)

Yangjiatang Village
Yangjiatang Village is located in Sandu Township, Songyang County, Lishui City, Zhejiang Province. The village is situated in a circular mountain depression, and in the land of Yangjiatang, where there is hardly three feet of flat ground, more than 20 Qing Dynasty residential buildings with earth and wood construction extend upwards along the hillside in tiers. It is a typical terraced ancient village in Songyang County, known as the 'Golden Potala Palace'.

Dubbed by 'National Geographic' as 'the last secret land of Jiangnan', it's stunning
Songyang, a treasure town in Lishui, Zhejiang, is home to numerous ancient villages. It has been recommended by 'Lonely Planet' multiple times, and 🌏 rated as the last secret land of Jiangnan by 'China Geographic'!
🛤️Route
Recommended: Yangjiatang - Songzhuang - Youtian Village - Xikeng Village - Chenjiapu
It's suggested to start early, first visit Yangjiatang to photograph the couple trees when there are fewer people, and if you're lucky, you'll see the morning mist! Arrive at Songzhuang before noon, the classic ancient bridge is not crowded and really photogenic🌆. In the evening, capture the sunset at Chenjiapu.
📍Photo spots
🍁🍁Yangjiatang Village
At the entrance of the village, there are two ancient camphor trees, also known as the couple trees, which are the most classic cover photos🖼️!
If you can catch the morning mist, it's truly beautiful❤️🩹P2-3
📸Near Yangjiatang Primary School, take a photo of the opposite yellow house, which shines golden in the sunlight, commonly known as the 'Golden Potala Palace' P4
📸The viewing platform at the entrance of Nan She Coffee, for a panoramic view of the ancient village opposite P5
Songzhuang Village
🖼️The classic ancient bridge is the filming location for 'National Geographic', it's recommended to sit on the bridge for better photos! P6
📸On the way into the village, you can overlook the village from a high point P7
The B&B of my dreams - Taoye is located at the highest point of Songzhuang, a secret land among bamboo forests, I really want to stay for a night if I have time6
Chenjiapu Village
📸The sea-viewing platform for photos of the entire village of Chenjiapu under the sunset P11
📸The second-floor window of the West Pioneer Bookstore is very photogenic P12, the terrace offers a panoramic view, but it's really crowded on holidays, so be warned🥰
📸Don't miss the alley next to the Pioneer Bookstore, it's very photogenic!
📸Feiniaoji Coffee + B&B, located at the top of the village, overlooks the entire village, and you need to book the B&B in advance
🥙Youtian Village
📸The pine trees at the entrance of the village, the reflection in front of the pond, Wuxin Academy, and the tea mountains are all good for photography, and there are really few people compared to other villages
📍Transport
🚄Direct train from Shanghai or Hangzhou to Songyang, or you can drive or take a 🚌 bus.
🚗The villages in Songyang are relatively scattered, 🚕 it's recommended to drive or hire a car! For sisters who are not good at mountain driving, it's better to hire a car, the mountain roads in Songzhuang are really narrow! This time I chose a hired car, and met a very reliable driver + guide who can tell you a lot of photo spots, I can recommend to sisters who need it
❌If you're tired of the hustle and bustle of the city, why not come to Songyang, to the ancient villages to experience this paradise on earth🌸...

Chenjiapu Village Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
The filming location of the golden years, a summer retreat, a heavenly abode
After deciding to take a trip on a whim, the destination is Songyang County, Lishui City, Zhejiang Province, which is known as a classical Chinese county specimen, the last secret realm of Jiangnan.
Ancient villages such as Chenjiapu, Xikeng, Yangjiatang, and Songzhuang are all popular destinations for rural tourism.
You say that the water there is sweet, the air is also sweet, and even the fragrance of the flowers is sweet.
All the flowers bloom for you, and all the scenery is arranged for you.
Chenjiapu Village in Sidu Township, Songyang County, is located at the head of Dazhong Mountain Fortress. In the early days, a family with the surname Chen built a grey shop here to raise ducks for a living, hence the name Chenjiapu.
At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, a family with the surname Bao moved from Wuyi County, Jinhua City, bought the Chen family's fields, built houses, farmed, and gradually formed a village.
Chenjiapu Village has become a high mountain village dominated by the Bao surname, but the village name has not changed and is still called Chenjiapu.
Songyang County's Dazhong Mountain has an altitude of 1129 meters, with mountains layered upon each other. When clouds and mists rise, Chenjiapu Village is nestled in the dark mountains, high up in the sky, beautiful like a fairyland.
Surrounded by continuous mountains, side by side like a natural barrier, they protect this ancient land.
The village blends with the mountains, forming a beautiful painting, and Chenjiapu Village is the finishing touch in this landscape painting, like a pearl set in the mountains.
In ancient times, there was a shop every 30 li in Songyang County. The ancient post road from Songyang County to Wuyi County passed through Chenjiapu, and troops were stationed here during the Qing Dynasty to defend the area. It has a long history of more than 640 years.
The entire village is high in the north and low in the south, with houses built against the mountain, layered upon each other, forming a cliff dwelling village. Terraced fields, bamboo forests, ancient trees, and mountains surround the old houses, with mottled yellow mud walls recording the slowly passing mountain life, preserving the traditional village layout and appearance. With its beautiful scenery and unique charm, it attracts more and more tourists to visit.
Chenjiapu Village, with its unique natural scenery and profound cultural heritage, attracted the attention of the 'The Glittering Years' crew.
On August 2, 2020, the 38-episode series 'The Glittering Years' completed filming in Chenjiapu Village and held a wrap-up ceremony here.
Celebrities like Ni Ni, Liu Shishi, and Chen Daoming have left their footprints here.
The ancient architecture of Chenjiapu, the bluestone paths, the quiet alleys, and the stories that flow through the years, all infused this TV series with rich historical emotions.
During the filming, the crew lived harmoniously with the local residents, jointly experiencing the charm of Chenjiapu.
They communicated with the local villagers, understanding the local customs, and cleverly integrated these elements into the plot, making 'The Glittering Years' not just a series about urban emotional stories, but also a cultural work full of regional characteristics.
Now, when the people of Lishui mention this series, they will remember the story-filled and emotional Chenjiapu.
Walking through the stone paths and alleys between the yellow mud walls, time flows, and space traverses.
You say, you don't want to leave, you just want to stay, become a hardworking village girl, stay with the fields and the village, let time also slow down, work at sunrise, and rest at sunset.
Raise a group of cats and dogs, as well as a flock of chickens and ducks.
Grow vegetables, herd cattle, and make the three meals a day you most want to eat, unconcerned with the hustle and bustle of the city.

Challenge to check in at 100 ancient villages in Zhejiang (1/100)
…………
How to have fun in Songyang?
Let me introduce you to Chenjiapu~
Chenjiapu has a simple folk custom. In different seasons, you will see different scenes of labor. I first met Chenjiapu in 2020, and I was quite shocked to see uncles and aunts carrying bamboo leaves along the cliff.
‼ Transportation
1⃣ Shanghai (self-driving 5~6h) (High-speed train ➡ Lishui Station 2.5~3h ➡ Chenjiapu 1.5h)
2⃣ Hangzhou (self-driving 3.5h) (High-speed train Hangzhou Station ➡ Songyang Station 3.5h ➡ Chenjiapu 45min)
‼ More than two hundred days a year are shrouded in mist. When the sun comes out after the rain, you find yourself in a sea of clouds, which is incredibly beautiful as it comes and goes.
‼ Chenjiapu will always surprise you in different seasons and weather, with the sunset casting a pleasant color on the rammed earth walls.
‼ In the village, there is a pioneer bookstore called 'Strangers on the Earth', the alleys by the wall are highly photogenic, and you'll find chatty and enthusiastic old comrades in the bookstore 👍
‼ There is a great elevation difference in Chenjiapu, and you must go to the high places in the village to have a good look. Although it is tiring 🤣, the visual experience it brings is different. You can see the whole view of Chenjiapu, and the yellow walls and black tiles.
⭐ Dining: Ya Liao Yun Restaurant (at the entrance of the village – good for groups) Braised duck 🉑, Sanjiao Hun, and Lao Bao Farmhouse (local dishes)
⭐ Accommodation: Yunxi Moja Shared Vacation Space (located at the entrance of the village)
⭐ Photo check-in: The courtyard in front of Ya Liao Yun Restaurant (facing the valley), the second-floor terrace of the pioneer bookstore, the alleys by the wall, and the high places facing the valley.

Shall we go? To the village to pick flowers?
The wonderful journey to the ancient village Diaotan Village Shanyang Yunye Tingyu Homestay
Stepping into the Shanyang Yunye Tingyu Homestay in Diaotan Village is like traveling through time, returning to a simple and peaceful era.
This homestay is built against the mountain, blending with nature. The room decoration is simple yet elegant, and every detail reveals the owner's care.
In the morning, when you open the door, the fresh air hits you, carrying the fragrance of the mountains and forests. Strolling along the mountain paths, you can admire a variety of exotic flowers and plants. While picking flowers on the mountain, you feel the magic and beauty of nature, as if you are one with the wilderness.
Standing on high, overlooking the hustle and bustle of the city, a sense of tranquility and detachment wells up inside you. The contrast between the city's busyness and this peaceful place makes one cherish this quiet heaven even more.
At night, lying in bed, listening to the sounds of insects in the mountains, feeling the gentle caress of the breeze, it seems as if all worries gradually fade away.
Here, time seems to slow down, allowing one to calm down and appreciate the beauty of life. This is not just an accommodation experience, but also a purification of the soul.

The Unique Charm of Yunye Tingyu Homestay—An Unforgettable Stay Experience
Songyang Yunye Tingyu Homestay The unique charm of the homestay—an unforgettable stay experience.
Coming to this mountain homestay feels like entering a paradise. Surrounded by green mountains and waters, it offers a sense of tranquility and beauty of nature.
Upon entering the room, you can feel the host's attention to detail. The room is decorated in a simple yet warm style, filled with a natural ambiance.
What's most surprising is that there is even a special bar here. The bartender is skilled, mixing cocktails with vibrant colors and rich flavors. In the bar, listening to relaxing music and savoring delicious cocktails, one can forget all worries.
In addition to the bar, there is also a handmade wind chime activity. Under the guidance of the teacher, I made my own wind chime. When the wind blows, the wind chime emits a crisp sound, as if telling the stories of the mountains and forests.
At night, lying in bed, listening to the sounds of insects outside the window, and feeling the breath of the mountains and forests, one can sleep soundly.
Here, I not only enjoyed a comfortable stay but also experienced unique cocktail mixing and wind chime making activities. This mountain homestay made me feel the charm of nature and the warmth of humanity.
During the day, I strolled through the mountains, breathing in the fresh air, and feeling the gifts of nature. Everything here made me feel incredibly relaxed and happy.
This stay experience made me reluctant to leave, and I will always remember the beautiful times here.

Lishui Songyang | A relaxing journey in the Yunye Listening Retreat
A relaxing journey in the Yunye Listening Retreat. The homestay is generally elegant and simple, matching well with the ambiance of the village. The place we stayed at has a large terrace outside, where the scenery is beautiful on sunny days, and you can enjoy the comfort of the breeze while basking in the sun. From the terrace, you can see the lush green mountain views. There is also a terrace outside the dining room where you can enjoy the village scenery, and cute dogs and cats will gather around you. Overall, it is indeed a great place to relax your body and mind.

What is it like to live in an ancient village for a long time
Living in the Songyang Yunye Tingyu Homestay, an ancient village homestay, is like stepping into a tranquil painting. There is no hustle and bustle of the city, only green mountains, clear waters, and lovely cats and dogs. It's incredibly cozy to bask in the sun in the room, feeling the warmth of the sunlight on your skin. When camping with friends, everyone works together to set up tents, make fires, and cook, with laughter echoing through the mountains. Gazing at the mountain scenery and savoring fine tea, time seems to stand still at this moment. This experience, so different from city life, is intoxicating and makes one linger and not want to return.

National Geographic recommends Yisongzhuang Village
National Geographic recommends an ancient village with a sense of age. The village has hardly any commercial activity, preserving the original appearance of the village very well.
The village has a large variety and number of ancient buildings, such as ancient houses, stone arch bridges, and old post roads. These ancient buildings have been carefully maintained by the local villagers, with both their exteriors and internal structures remaining intact. To this day, more than 200 households still live in these ancient dwellings.
The only downside is that transportation is not convenient, with winding mountain roads that are narrow and twisty.
