Yuanshikai Former Residence

Yuan Shikai's former residence is located in Xiangcheng, Zhoukou City, Henan Province. This is the place where Yuan Shikai lived when he was a child. The original building has a large scale, covering a total area of 180,000 square meters, with more than 500 tile-roofed houses, divided into residences, schools, barracks, gardens, etc. Surrounded by a square wall of more than 10 meters high, 6 artillery towers and three moats, the suspension bridge outside the gate is high, and the defense is strict. It is a typical Chinese "defense fortress". Yuan Shikai's former residence is laid out according to the three axes of the middle, east and west. The building complex is composed of traditional bricks, wood, white ash and other building materials, reflecting the characteristics of ancient Chinese architecture. On the roof ridge, there are lions, tigers, leopards, horses, monkeys and other brick carvings. The four corners of the peach eaves are towering, decorated with dragon-patterned animal tips, pointing directly to the sky, with a magnificent momentum. The middle house was built by Yuan Chongsan, with the colorful carvings of "Purple Qi coming from the east" on the Zuomamenlou and the door lintel. It is also divided into three courtyards: front, middle and rear. The living room in front of the front yard. There are east and west wing rooms on both sides. In the front of the middle courtyard are five waist buildings and three east and west wing rooms. Each house is furnished with Nanmu furniture, and the walls are covered with calligraphy and paintings of famous people. The existing buildings and halls are well preserved. The East Residence was built by Yuan Shikai's father Yuan Baozhong on the former site of the Shijia. There is a hall in the middle of the front yard, and wing rooms on both sides. The middle courtyard has the east wing building, the west wing building, and the three waist buildings in the middle. Yuan Shikai was born in Yaolou two rooms. There are three rooms in the east and west wing buildings of the backyard, and three rooms in the hall building. There are three existing waist towers where Yuan Shikai was born, which are well preserved. The West Residence was built and lived by Yuan Shitong, the sixth younger brother of Yuan Shikai. There are five existing halls, three halls and east wing rooms, and six west wing rooms.
