The hostel has curtains for privacy, the bed is a good size with a convenient shelf next to it, and there's a locker available. I really appreciate that the bathroom isn't in the room. This is definitely one of the top hostels I've stayed at in Europe, and it's not expensive either. The location is excellent; it's about a ten-minute walk from the 100E airport express bus stop, and you can easily walk to the boat pier and the free market from here.
I stayed at Marco Polo Hostel for one week after reading many positive reviews. Here’s my honest take:
📍 Location (10/10):
The location is perfect—right in the city center. It’s just a 5–8 minute walk from both Metro 2 (where the hostel is) and Metro 3 / Deak Ferenc Ter (for the 100E airport bus). Couldn’t ask for better.
👋 First Impression & Check-in:
I arrived early at 9 AM on Christmas Day (Dec 25), well before the 2 PM check-in. A friendly staff member (chubby, helpful) allowed me to leave my luggage in the storage room—a very kind gesture that started my stay on a positive note. When I returned to check in, there was a small confusion about my booking (I accidentally booked for 2 people in a 12-bed dorm instead of 1), but the staff handled it calmly and professionally. They also helped sort out a postal code issue for my Hong Kong details—thank you!
🛏 Room & Sleep:
I was assigned beds 3 & 4 in a 2nd-floor dorm. The bunk beds are subdivided, offering decent privacy. Noise was minimal—maybe 10–15 minutes of understandable movement here and there, but nothing disruptive. Most guests were European ( students, southeast Asians and Europeans) staying short-term. Male and female dorms are separate.
🚿 Bathrooms & Facilities:
All showers worked perfectly—good hot/cold water. Remember to bring your own towel and toiletries. As a backpacker, I was prepared, but it’s worth noting.
🍞 Breakfast:
Available for 3200 HUF. Simple but satisfying—fresh, hand-made bread was delicious. I’ve never eaten so much bread in my life, and I mean that in a good way!
💧 Water & Extras:
Bottled water is available for 500 HUF. The friendly slim staff even gave me a discount when I bought five bottles. Tap water in Hungary is drinkable, so you can refill if you prefer. I also appreciated the staff’s fluency in English—communication was never an issue.
🔑 Small Issues Handled Well:
Once I locked myself out of my room, and they promptly lent me a spare key. My key card occasionally failed, but they fixed it in under a minute. The team is flexible and quick to help.
❤ Nice Touch:
During check-in, the staff introduced a charity donation for kids in Hungary. I donated for the first time here—felt good to contribute.
📌 Final Tips:
Read the house rules posted near the counter. Bring your own toiletries and towel. The hostel is well-run, clean, and staffed by helpful, English-speaking professionals.
✅ Overall:
Great value for money, excellent location, and genuinely helpful staff. I’d happily stay again and recommend it to fellow travelers. I will definitely come back here for my solo travel!
Stayed here many times. Good choice if you need Keleti station.
The doors lock. Friendly staff for check in & out. Bed is fine. Pillows are dreadful. Unreliable wifi. Good showers.
Overall it's worth the price and value for money
The hotel is good value for money, good location, decent-sized, clean room. tons of restaurants closeby, 20 minutes walk to the airport express bus, and 30 minutes to the main spa. The WiFi is fast.
one of the best hostels i've ever stayed in despite being so cheap! dry-wet separated bathroom equipped with shower cream and blow dryer, bed has curtains and an extra compartment for storage. the best part being free dinner at the hotel bar after spending €4 at the bar, as well as free breakfast. really friendly for a broke student traveller like me!
Compared to other A&O hostels it wasn't great. Prices on things like coffee and rentals are more than in Berlin. They didn't have the room we booked and prepaid for so they gave us a cheaper one without reimbursement. The sheets (you carry sheets up and make your own bed) were full of holes, the 'mattresses' are just a piece of memory foam, the chargers and lights on the bunks were broken, and the heat was a small unit that never got the place quite warm. Overall the place is cold and austere, which is disappointing since we liked the other A&O we stayed at in Germany.
Great Spot for Travelers — Just Be Mindful of Dorm Life
I stayed here during my trip and really loved the location — super central and easy to get around. The staff were welcoming and the place was clean, which I really appreciated after long days of exploring.
The only downside was the shared dorm experience. One guest came back very late, turned on the lights, talked loudly on the phone, and unfortunately got sick in the bathroom. It made it a bit hard to get proper rest.
Still, the hostel itself is great. If you’re a light sleeper or prefer quiet nights, a private room might be worth considering!
For Hostel, I appreciate the quality and privacy it gives. Security is what I care the most and this hostel has it. I was never bother by anyone at all
Lovely place. Highly recommend! If you’re looking for a proper warm place to stay in budapest, this is definitely your best choice!
The room, lobby and kitchen are super clean and tidy. The hotel staffs are welcoming.
The location is perfect, where you can find a supermarket within 2 min walk and the tram station within 5 min walk!
Also the breakfast are delicious and well-priced! What a great deal!
Because it's newly opened, it's very clean. Housekeeping comes to clean the rooms daily, and the blankets smell fresh. There are two showers and two toilets in the room. However, if you're unlucky, your bed might be right next to the shower, very close, about a body length away. The sink is also next door, so the constant coming and going can be annoying and make it hard to sleep. Also, in mixed-gender accommodations, some of the men smell very bad and are constantly coughing. If women are bothered by this, I wouldn't recommend staying in a mixed-gender accommodation.

Great
TTlwy2727I stayed in an 8-bed mixed dorm. Overall everything was good, but it could be a bit noisy at times. People were frequently coming in and out, and when they were packing or taking their belongings it could get quite loud. Some guests also spoke quite loudly, which sometimes disturbed those who were resting. However, I understand that this is quite normal when sharing a mixed dorm with several people.
The hostel itself is easy to find, and the staff were very polite and friendly. The only downside was that the bathroom was a little dirty.

GGuest UserThe hostel was really good. We stayed in a private room so my experience is also due to the fact that I didn’t had to share my space with anyone. The staff were super friendly (which these days is rare in a hostel). The beds are really clean and they really had a proper system to avoid bed bugs and stuff that you usually question from a hostel.
The one remark was that there is no space to put our bags in the room other than the lockers, so as a private room there should be more spaces to either sit and/or leave stuff

LLili_NA very atmospheric hotel, which is located on the 2nd floor (by button in the elevator) of a residential building. The entrance is from the main road, almost at the corner of the house, there is a huge beautiful door with a Leo Boutique sign, you need to press 58. The room is small, but cozy and the high ceilings with a view from the window are a big plus, it was also nice to get from the hotel a compliment in the form of a bottle of sparkling wine, which is very useful after a flight. Nice girl at the reception. Ideal location!!! Within a 5-15 minute walk are the main attractions and all kinds of cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops. From the Astoria stop, where bus 103 from the airport stops, it’s a 5-minute walk; the sightseeing tour bus also stops there. I definitely recommend the hotel. I will definitely stay here on my next trip!

Very Good
GGuest UserThe location of the hotel is very good, with bus and subway stations just outside, and a fast food supermarket downstairs. The service at the front desk was very good, thanks to Adam and Khalil, who were very friendly and tried their best to meet my needs. Especially Adam, when I couldn't find the entrance, he left the front desk to find me and take me into the hotel; I didn't bring a lock, so I put my luggage in the luggage room, and I went to get my belongings many times to ask him to help open the door, and he was not impatient at all.

Very Good
GGuest UserThe room was very nice and the decoration was beautiful. The courtyard had a fresh feeling. There were tables and hanging chairs, and the style of Baroque architecture. It was very nice. The price was also affordable.
GGuest UserHey Out there,
I was there as a solo traveler however I believe the hotel room size can easily accommodate a couple as well.
The location is exquisite just within a few hundred meters from the tramway and the metro and bus stops (Oktogon M station)!!!
And from and to the airport, you don't even have to take a cab. Just use tramway or metro and then connect to blue bus # 100E (an express bus service to the airport). The receptionist lady, amazing 👏 Her name is Sofia and she's very helpful. She can even suggest you places to visit. If you arrive earlier than official check in time, I can promise you you will enjoy the luggage drop off service and be walking around (or even take a metro or tramway and go have fun somwhere) till you check in.
Given that this is a budget hotel, why not stay there?
