I am staying on Yingbin Road, a 4 minute drive from the ticket office, therefore I got a taxi to the site for under 10rmb. I paid 232rmb for a ticket that included entry, a one way shuttle bus journey and a one way cable car journey. The first attraction is the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ that according to ancient beliefs, links Tianmen Cave to the sky. It consists of 999 steps to the top that differ in steepness and gradient as a metaphor to the ups and downs in life. The view at the top is beautiful with a very refreshing breeze! You then take an extremely long escalator up to the top of the mountain. Here you are free to walk around taking the East or West route. I did both and it took about 4 hours. The views are honestly breathtaking. You can also do other things such as walking over the glass floor, taking a sky lift (25rmb) and visiting a traditional temple. The cable car journey home was amazing (it’s the longest cable car journey in the world!!) but the queue was painfully long - I queued for 2 hours. I really enjoyed my day out here but as with most major attractions in China, I would recommend getting there as early as possible to beat the crowds! #naturalwonders #hikingtrails #summervacation

Was there with a group of friends from Malaysia in late October 2017 after the double ten 1010 holidays so there was not much of a crowd. We took the cable car ride up the mountain. Fantastic views. The surrounding hills offered a decent enough views, with a glass floor bridge adding some excitement. One of China's master piece of engineering is buried right inside the hills, the Escalators. A series of maybe 7 escalators each maybe 100m long and at almost 45 degree incline that took us from the top of the mountain, almost 1000 ft down to the top of Stairway to Heaven which is right underneath the famous Tianmen Hole in the hill. We then walked the 999 steps down to the Tianmen Square from where we took the bus ride down the 99 hairpins road to the Zhangjiajie town below. The bus ride initially was scary because the road is downhill, it was dark and the hairpin turns were stomach churning. Nothing seemed to surprise us, but then we came to 天门山⛰… Unfortunately we didn’t get the route A , which includes 7.7 km cable way from downtown to the top of the mountain . Instead we took a bus and arrived to another cable way, which was short . It brought us to the stairs which should be 999 as a tail goes ( actually I counted 987) . and if you think that you reached the top after that - you’re wrong 😅Cause after stairs we had to take elevator…6 or 7 Times! When it lifted us we finally was on the top , but… At this moment you free to go in 2 directions , which will lead you to higher hills of mountain , another cable way attraction and glass bridge. A cablecar was constructed by the French company Poma from nearby Zhangjiajie railway station to the top of the mountain. Tianmen Mountain Cableway is claimed in tourist publications as the "longest passenger cableway of high mountains in the world", with 98 cars and a total length of 7,455 metres (24,459 ft) and ascent of 1,279 metres (4,196 ft) The highest gradient is an unusual 37 degrees. Tourists can walk on kilometres of paths built onto the cliff face at the top of the mountain, including sections with glass floors.
