The design team clearly approached this as more than a building; they created a true Hudson Valley refuge that lets you “settle into an upstate rhythm” while staying connected to the best of New York, less than 90 minutes from the city. New Paltz desperately needed a hotel like this, and with its well-sized collection of rooms, it will be a genuine boon for the area — especially for anyone who wants to explore the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail and the walkable historic downtown without making it a rushed day trip. This place makes you want to linger. Rooms Our room was wonderfully spacious — exactly what you want when escaping New York City living for a proper reset. The aesthetic is the same winning formula we loved at Woodstock Way: contemporary design paired with rustic materials, executed beautifully. A thoughtful mix of classic mid-century pieces and supremely comfortable current furnishings made the space feel curated rather than decorated. Lofted ceilings added airiness, radiant-heat bathroom floors were a luxurious touch, and the private balcony delivered knockout views straight into the forest and over the Wallkill River. The standout? A quality Audio-Technica record player in the room with easy access to the lobby’s curated vinyl collection — exactly as promised: “Tune into New Paltz, literally… take out vinyl from our lobby and set any mood.” It was perfect for slow mornings and cozy evenings. The smart TV setup was first-class too — a large screen with built-in apps that let us stream everything we wanted without AirPlay or hauling a Fire Stick. No friction, just comfort. These are rooms designed for people who actually want to stay a while. Nearby Activities This is where New Paltz Way truly shines. The hotel sits directly on the historic Wallkill Valley Rail Trail — a beautiful 23.7-mile forested rail trail that winds along the Wallkill River through woodlands, fields, and charming communities. It’s flat, scenic, and perfect for walking, jogging, or biking (electric trail cruisers are available to rent right onsite). The trail feels like an invitation to explore, and the hotel clearly wants you to accept it. From here you’re also perfectly positioned for bigger adventures at Mohonk Preserve, Minnewaska State Park, and the Shawangunk Ridge.
