Really clean and modern hostel with good amenities and an amazing room.
The hostel is a bit further out of the old town (10 minutes walk) but this was perfect, as it made for a more peaceful and quiet stay.
The staff were helpful and kind. There was good information on the boards around what activities to do in the area too. There was also recommended places to eat - all of which were amazing!
They hosted events at the hostel but we didn't do any so can't comment on those.
Good to meet other international guests.
Breakfast was good every day.
Only negative about the hostel is that the WiFi did not work throughout my entire stay. I would connect to it but no internet would ever work, not on mobile or laptop. Didn't work for any of the other international guests. Not sure if it worked for Chinese guests.
Tip for the staff after visiting a few other hostels in china since this one - we can exchange WeChat and have smoother conversations via auto translate :)

This hostel is absolutely fantastic! I stayed here 20 years ago, so returning felt incredibly nostalgic and comforting. There were lots of international guests, which is always a good sign. The place is clean and tidy, and they even have self-service laundry facilities. The little restaurant at the hostel is particularly good and offers great value for money.

Met a lot of friends at Backpackers Ten Years in Lijiang. Next time I'm hiking, I'll definitely choose this place again. The only downsides were the very poor phone signal and non-existent Wi-Fi in the room, even though I was in a four-person dorm on the first floor (they must've upgraded me, haha!). Also, the gap between the mattress and the wall was quite dirty. But overall, the hostel atmosphere was fantastic – easily the best I've experienced. See you in a few months!

Staying at Danshe Homestay was a truly memorable experience.
The property carries a peaceful energy that allows for genuine rest. Kim is an exceptional host whose natural hospitality makes you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. A special mention goes to the wonderful lady in the kitchen her home-cooked meals are prepared with such heart and are incredibly delicious comforting. Beyond the comfort, Danshe is a hub for meaningful connection. It was a joy to meet fellow travelers and learn about the local culture through the owner’s passion for Thangka painting.
If you are looking for a stay that offers both artistic inspiration and human warmth in Shangri-La, this is the place to be.”

On the day of arrival, the hostel provided a pick-up service. The front desk staff was very enthusiastic and even helped with our luggage. The room was clean and tidy, and the hostel had a great atmosphere with live music. They also offered meals.
**Facilities:** Wi-Fi, toiletries, and a laundry room were all available.
**Cleanliness:** Clean and tidy. If staying over three nights, you can ask the front desk to change the linens.
**Environment:** Located at the foot of Cangshan Mountain, the scenery is beautiful and the climate is pleasant.
**Service:** On the day of check-in, the hostel contacted us regarding the pick-up service, which was very thoughtful.
**Dali Ancient City West Gate Shuttle:** The front desk would ask every hour if anyone needed a shuttle, which was very considerate.

Excellent! The owner is really warm and knowledgeable. The place is very clean, and the common areas are spacious. Plus, there's a fantastic rooftop where you can read and enjoy the breeze. The location is super convenient too, right next to Kunming Railway Station – just a 3-minute walk. The subway station is 5 minutes away, and a bus stop is only 2 minutes. There's even a direct bus to Changshui Airport nearby. All in all, everything was great. I'll definitely choose this hostel again, whether for a longer stay or just a layover. As someone who's been backpacking around the world for 13 years, I highly recommend it!

This was my first time in Shangri-La, and traveling solo, I was curious about hostels as I'd never stayed in one before. I saw Pine Cone Hostel recommended on Xiaohongshu, so I looked it up and it turned out to be really great!
I stayed here for a total of 4 days. Three days in a private room and one day in a 4-person dorm. The front desk staff member is leaving tomorrow, which is a real shame – I'll definitely stay at Pine Cone again next time I'm in Shangri-La!!!
**Service:** The front desk staff were very proactive in resolving issues and had an excellent service attitude. After check-in, they also sent over welcome information and local travel tips, which was very thoughtful! Besides the front desk, other staff members also actively helped out whenever they saw a problem.
**Facilities:** The private rooms are very well-equipped, with a heater, humidifier, and a dressing table. They even provide disposable bath towels, regular towels, and bottled water. For the 4-person dorm, the towels and bottled water are placed in the respective lockers. The public areas also have excellent facilities. The shower area has curtains, hooks, and toiletries, with plenty of space, strong water pressure, and ample hot water. The restrooms have both Western-style toilets and squat toilets, and overall, the hygiene is impeccable. The laundry area has a dryer, washing machine, and even a shoe-washing machine – how thoughtful! The makeup area has large stools, hair dryers, and curling irons, completely catering to women's needs. Hand soap is provided at the sinks, and there's enough space between each sink so you won't bump into each other while getting ready, haha.
**Hygiene:** Both the public service areas and guest rooms are kept very clean.
**Environment:** The overall experience was fantastic. It was my first time staying in a hostel with private rooms, and it felt very special. I recommended it to my friends right after checking in. The male and female dorms are in separate buildings, and the common areas are very cozy, like a huge 'Friends' apartment. The hostel offers breakfast and dinner, which are both good value for money. It's actually not too far from the ancient town – just a few minutes by taxi, or about a 20-30 minute walk.

The bathroom was very clean and regularly serviced. The people were nice.
Environment: There's a cafe, but the coffee looked cheap so I skipped it.
The cafe is great for working and even has a projector for movies, which is a nice touch.
Service: Spot on!

Had a great stay here. The hostel is located in a high rise building with a cosy common area where it’s easy to relax, watch movies, and mingle with other travellers. The toilet was clean and even comes with an automated seat cover, which was a nice touch.
There was an unexpected water supply maintenance during my stay, but the owner handled it very well, he kept updating us and even brought some of us to his friend house in another building to shower. Really appreciated the effort.
As a backpacker, I also found the owner very helpful—he guided me on taking a shared electric bike to the metro and then the train to the airport, which saved cost compared to taking a taxi.
He even invited us out for drinks with other international travellers, making the whole experience more memorable. I personally prefer smaller hostels like this as it’s easier to mingle and feel comfortable.

GGuest UserLocation was great that it was a walk away from the Kunming Railway Station where I needed to be to leave the city. I liked how it was near a lot of food places! The volunteer Evens was an interesting person to talk to when I learned about his background in what he does as an occupation and where he is originally from in China. The owner Winni was a nice person as well and I appreciated and enjoy her and some of the other guests that cooked for us the night that we had a big dinner. Thank you for being part of the chef crew Winni. Everybody who stayed at the place was respectful and considered towards one another in the way that they conducted themselves. Was able to go along with the rules of this hostel because it fit my daily habits. Nobody had any habits that bothered me.
Not really into the hostel type of stays, due to lack of privacy. Was just happy to stay at this place since it was pretty much right at the doorstep of the Kunming Railway station where I can catch my train on time where I wouldn't end up getting lost in the city which in turn would end up missing it.
The only negative thing that I didn't like was that the bathroom did not have bath towels and just regular hand towels where I would not be able to dry myself very well after showering. Because of this I didn't want to take a shower at this place and the fact that these towels were used repeatedly from other guests, which made me feel uncomfortable wanting to use it. Would come back to this Hostel again if I happen to have to come back to Kunming again where I needed to be near this train station to catch at train there.

KK VThis hostel is located about 10 to 15 minutes walk from Dali Ancient City, but still offers convenient access to amenities. The surrounding area has plenty of local restaurants, bike rental shops and a nearby market. With a police station next door, safety is not a concern.
I stayed in a dormitory room with an ensuite bathroom. The hostel staff and cleaners generally maintain the space well. However, cleanliness can quickly compromised due to inconsiderate guests. That said, I observed that the team consistently cleaned the facilities at regular intervals, so the issue wasn’t due to a lack of effort from the management.
One highlight is the rooftop washing machine with complimentary detergent, which is such an excellent convenience for travelers.
The front desk staff were helpful and approachable. They offered practical travel advice, such as recommendations for electric bike rentals and guidance on typical market prices. I found this especially useful for planning my days around Dali.
The beds are comfortable and each comes with an individual locker and curtain, which gives me the personal space and security.
The hostel also encourages a warm communal atmosphere. I appreciated the small gatherings in the lobby, such as casual singing sessions. There is also a WeChat group for guests to join occasional outings.
Overall, I had a pleasant and enjoyable stay. It’s a solid choice for travelers looking for a clean, friendly and sociable hostel experience in Dali.
GGuest UserChepaest hostel but it did not disappoint. Bed and everything was clean. Pillow and comforter was provided as well. You can wash your clothes yourself with minimal charge and hang it there to dry. Around 10mins away to the old town (I0mins walk). They can arrange tour for your as well. Recommend!
GGuest UserI went for it for the price, but still some lacking things surprised me. The bed was hard, the walls in the room were mostly dirty and stained from both human use and mosquito splatters. There was rarely someone available for inquiries and the outside toilet was a big downside, since it was quite cold, especially at night. Having a kitchen to use was definitely a plus and the rooftop areas were pretty nice, although messy. I was sad to see all the animal they have spend the whole day caged or chained 😔
AAstrxdThe environment was very comfortable and relaxing. Beautiful view whwre you can see some of the sea of clouds. They give you disposable coverings for you to put on top of the fresh pillow bedding and mattress for extra hygiene which is a nice touch I haven't seen before. Bathroom is very clean, though there are only two toilets and two showers and two sinks, so do note that for busy season, but it wasn't an issue at all during my stay. They provided breakfast too, fresh milk the boss heated for me when I got up, and red sugar glutinous rice cakes wrapped in banana leaves (babas), and it was fun to get ready for the day with new friends on the balcony overlooking the village. I think the environment is very good for meeting new friends and other solo travelers- I arrived at the hostel randomly at the same time as three other girls, and we explored Manghong togetjer on the boss's recommendations for itinerary and sightseeing. And the next day the boss dropped us off at a tea roasting experience, and just as we were heading to Nuogan another girl from the hostel finished her tea roasting session, so we all went to Nuogan togetjer to play. The boss even helped load my luggage onto the shuttle bus so that it could pick me up at a sightseeing spot further down the mountain!

GGuest UserThe staff here is quite nice, they give you a disposable towel (a nightmare for the environment but it's a kind gesture, though), there is free drinking water at the reception and there was a washing machine that was free to use. The building is super interesting and has a very cool cylinder-shaped courtyard where people love taking photos. The building is full of artsy places and cafés. The reception is on another floor and quite far away from the dorm, though. That also means that most people will stay in the dorm, eating, being on phones etc. The problem here is that the hostel failed to put up signs that food isn't allowed in the rooms so you can't point those guests towards it. What is normal in almost every other country isn't normal in this one. Whenever I have a roommate who feels like he needs to burp every 30 seconds, fart and clear his throat at the same time, I want to book a ticket out of this country immediately. At this hostel I was also unlucky in that regard. I'm mentioning this because certain types of hostels attract certain types of people. These Chinese-style squat toilets they have here mean that you will stand in someone else's piss every time you enter the bathroom. And that toilet is right underneath you when you take a shower.
GGuest UserThe location is a bit of a journey – after getting off at Dali Station, you take bus number 4 for about 40-50 minutes, and it's located across from Dali Ancient City. I found it easily using the Baidu app. Once you enter, there's a small garden, and the reception is in the middle of it. I chose the most comfortable and free-spirited bed, and right in front of it, you can exercise. There's a punching bag, a bike, and what looks like a stair climber. The toilet is in the room itself, but for the shower, you have to go to the main house, where there's also a washing machine (8 yuan). Aside from a slight strange smell from the bed's wall, the bed isn't uncomfortable at all, and there's an electric blanket, so it wasn't too cold at night. I decided to stay for another day. Oh, and the owner speaks English, so communication is not an issue.
