Edinburgh Weather Conditions - Why Air-Conditioned Hotels Matter

Edinburgh's climate is notably changeable, with summer temperatures ranging from 15-20°C (59-68°F) and occasional warm spells reaching 22-25°C (72-77°F). The city experiences unpredictable weather patterns with frequent rainfall and fluctuating humidity, making consistent comfort a valuable feature year-round.

Air conditioning offers more than temperature control—it manages the high humidity levels common in Edinburgh's rainy climate, ensures quality sleep for jet-lagged travellers navigating the city's steep hills and cobblestones, and maintains consistent comfort for guests sensitive to temperature variations. Climate control transforms your Edinburgh experience, particularly during the warmer months and unexpected weather changes.

Our selected AC-equipped hotels combine this essential amenity with prime locations near iconic landmarks like the Royal Mile, historic castles, and vibrant cultural districts, ensuring you explore Edinburgh at your best regardless of the weather outside.

With the coming of spring in April and May, the air turns warm and comfortable. Comparatively, not many tourists are here during this period of time. It is appropriate to wear T shirts and pants in their summer, which lasts from June to August. During this period, Edinburgh celebrates 4 international festivals; namely International art Festival, Fringe festival, Military Tattoo and Book Festival. Most tourists come during this period and the hotel rates are high. Edinburgh’s autumn is from mid-August to September and it is cooler, so do remember your light jacket. From October to March comes the long winter where the temperature could go down to around -5℃. It is strongly suggested that you bring along winter clothing.

FAQs about Edinburgh hotels with AC

  • Why should I choose a hotel with air conditioning in Edinburgh?

While Edinburgh's climate is relatively mild, the city experiences unpredictable weather with high humidity levels, especially during rainy seasons. Air conditioning helps manage moisture, ensures consistent sleeping conditions for jet-lagged travellers, and provides comfort during occasional warm spells. It's particularly valuable given Edinburgh's steep terrain and frequent weather changes.

  • Which months have the warmest weather in Edinburgh?

uly and August are typically the warmest months in Edinburgh, with temperatures ranging from 15-20°C (59-68°F) and occasional peaks to 22-25°C (72-77°F). However, air-conditioned rooms are beneficial year-round for managing humidity and providing consistent comfort.

  • Are air-conditioned hotels more expensive in Edinburgh?

Not necessarily. While some luxury hotels with premium climate systems may charge more, many mid-range and budget hotels offer air conditioning at competitive rates. You can filter by price on our site to find AC hotels that suit your budget.

  • What's the best neighbourhood for hotels with air conditioning in Edinburgh?

Popular AC-equipped hotel areas include the Royal Mile (historic heart), Stockbridge (boutique charm), Haymarket (convenient location), South Bridge (city center), and areas near Holyrood. Choose based on your interests and proximity to attractions like Edinburgh Castle or the Scottish Parliament.

  • Do all Edinburgh hotels have air conditioning?

No. Many traditional Scottish hotels rely on natural ventilation. This is why filtering for air-conditioned options is important. Our list features verified AC hotels to ensure your comfort.

From a hotel of this level and price you expect more for breakfast. At least delicious coffee :) and a cup for toothbrushes in the bathroom would not hurt either. By the way, about coffee - if you come at 8 am or later, then while you wait for the waiter with coffee you can sit - what prevents the hotel from installing a coffee machine so that I can serve myself is a mystery. The location is excellent, everything is within walking distance. The room is large, the height of the ceilings causes a wow effect :) the bed is beyond praise. There is a gym, a swimming pool, a spa and even a yoga mat and scales in the room - I did not use any of the above :)) They ask for a deposit of 150 pounds upon check-in. You would think that they have crooks living here and I will run away without paying. In general, considering the price, I would think twice - maybe there is cheaper nearby, but not much worse. The restaurant across the road Kyole is simply brilliant! I recommend 👍 and a little further, but also a minute's walk away, a good shop of kilts and traditional clothes, not a souvenir shop like on the Royal Mile. We went to the airport by bus number 100, very convenient, the bus stop is two minutes from the entrance to the hotel, the stop at the airport is right opposite the entrance, the price for two with luggage is 11 pounds, inside there is a place to put bags. We got there in 30 minutes. Everything is convenient and fast.

The hotel is located in the city center, just a few minutes' walk from the train station, and backs onto Calton Hill. It's also within walking distance of landmarks like Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile, making its location excellent. There's a mall and plenty of restaurants right next door. However, the hotel facilities are dated, the room is small, and there are few power outlets. In the twin room, the two small beds are pushed together, and one side of the headboard has no outlets, which is inconvenient for charging at night. Check-in isn't until 3 PM, but luggage storage is available.

I really enjoyed my four days. Wonderful hotel the team was very friendly and helpful at all times of the day. Great location easy to get to from the Station/airport. Good trams service along Princes Street. Plenty of buses along South Bridge which is a short walk. Enjoyed the spa facilities especially the swimming pool. The lounge near the reception area is a little chilly but a nice spot to relax with a warm drink. Overall a very pleasant stay. Would recommend. Rooms Good size room, fantastic shower and products. Bed was very comfortable. It was a tad cold so I requested a blanket which was very snug. Bonus having a fridge and complimentary water nice touch. Tea/coffee try was good but would be great to have some hot chocolate. Nearby activities Holyrood Palace and gardens on your doorstep along with great views of Arthur Seat. Five minutes walk to the Royal Mile. Food and drinks There is a restaurant and bar in the hotel. I found the food a bit hit and miss to be honest. Breakfast is great with a great choice in food for all palettes. Warm friendly service.

This hotel is really convenient for transport. It's close to the airport, and right next to the train station, from which it's only a 12-minute direct ride to the city center. It's just as good as those hotels in the city that cost over a thousand [currency unit] a night! Plus, there's a super big supermarket next door, which is perfect for picking up souvenirs. Just a heads-up: the hotel's standard is to clean every three days, so if you prefer daily cleaning, remember to arrange it when you check in!

I was torn between many hotels before deciding, and I'm glad I chose this one. I picked the castle-view room type; the room was quite spacious, the bathroom had a separate shower and tub, and the bedding was very comfortable. The front desk staff were also very friendly. Breakfast was a mix of à la carte and buffet style, and the à la carte items were unlimited. The food selection was rich, and the restaurant staff were very polite and courteous. The hotel provided slippers and two small bottles of water, but there was no toothbrush or toothpaste.

The hotel is perfectly situated right on the Royal Mile – the location is absolutely superb! It's just an 8-minute walk from the train station. Be aware that there are some steps along the route, which might be a bit of a workout if you're carrying heavy suitcases. It's a very family-friendly hotel. The bedroom has a large bed, and the living room sofa converts into a double bed, comfortably accommodating two adults and two children. Our room was incredibly clean, newly renovated, and surprisingly quiet. Even though the Royal Mile is bustling with street performers and activities, we couldn't hear any noise from our room at all. Having amenities like a washing machine and oven in the room was a huge plus. Just a note: toothpaste, toothbrushes, and slippers aren't provided as standard. We brought our own dental kit, so we only needed to ask the front desk for slippers. Breakfast is served à la carte; you order what you like, and top-ups are available if you're still hungry. Edinburgh Castle is a mere 5-minute walk to the right from the hotel's entrance, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby – incredibly convenient!

The service was truly exceptional. My first stay was in Manchester, and the overall ambiance of the hotel was fantastic. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed it. So, when we saw that this apartment was available in Edinburgh as well, we didn’t hesitate to book it.🤩The Edinburgh Castle can be seen from the hotel’s entrance, and the street scene next to the hotel is also quite beautiful.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 We had a wonderful stay at Ten Hill Place Hotel and would happily stay here again on our next visit to Edinburgh. The location is excellent—situated in a quiet area while still being within easy walking distance of the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, the University of Edinburgh, and many great restaurants and cafés. It was the perfect base for exploring the city. The room was modern, spacious, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. The bed was especially comfortable, and we had a great night’s sleep. Everything was well maintained, and the room had all the amenities we needed. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and professional throughout our stay. Check-in and check-out were quick and efficient, and everyone was happy to help with any questions we had. Overall, Ten Hill Place Hotel offers excellent value for money, combining a fantastic location, comfortable rooms, and outstanding service. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

The location of this hotel is just on the border of the city centre, so it feels a lot quieter compared to right on the High Street. My room was a windowless Queen Room, with plenty of storage space for 2 people.  I quite like the design of the room, where 1 side of the room is the washing facilities. Unfortunately, the night when I stayed, there were many loud door slamming during the night.  I've got woken up many times. I had the breakfast downstairs at around 9:30am, and it closes at 10am.  The hot food was very dry, so probably been sitting around for some time.  If I stay here again, I would go elsewhere for breakfast.

The drinking water dispenser at the entrance is a nice touch. The location is excellent, with several Chinese restaurants right across the street. Downstairs, there's a supermarket and a coffee shop. It's relatively close to the city center, about a ten-minute walk, and the airport shuttle takes half an hour to get to the airport. If you have luggage, avoid the stairs when exiting the train station; taking a slightly longer route is manageable. The cleanliness is just okay; they only provide a bath mat and two large bath towels. The room is reasonably spacious. Edinburgh's hotel prices are quite high, so I guess this is to be expected.

Overall, I'm really happy with this hotel. The location is super convenient, the room facilities are comfortable, and I slept great at night. The room and bathroom were a bit small, and the soundproofing wasn't the best, but thankfully the other guests were quiet late at night. The off-season price wasn't too expensive, so it was pretty good value for money.

The terrace room was a bit small, but the advantage was having a terrace where you could enjoy the sunshine. The bathroom had heating, and the shower was very comfortable. The only downside might be the smell of barbecue from the food court downstairs, but overall it was a good experience.

I can only say that I love and hate this hotel. I had a bad stay experience. Can you believe I spent 2,700 yuan to book a room in the basement? ! The pictures of the hotel room are seriously inconsistent with the reality. When booking, I noticed that the pictures of ordinary room types may be underground, so I specially booked a room type one level higher (the corresponding pictures on Ctrip also showed normal windows and floors), but when I arrived at the hotel, I was still arranged in the basement. The hotel manager explained that their rooms were not divided into floors, and after all the rooms upstairs were arranged that day, they arranged a room on the ground floor for us. Living underground was really unacceptable, so I had to accept the manager's recommendation and upgrade to a top-floor room for an additional 80 pounds. Environment: As shown in the picture, the view from the upgraded room is really great. The hotel is about a 20-minute walk from important attractions such as Princes Street and the Castle. The location is slightly far, but acceptable. Facilities: The room facilities are generally good. The hotel environment is very classic and well maintained. There is a parking lot at the back door, which is quite convenient. Hygiene: It may be that we changed rooms temporarily. After checking in, we found that the bathroom must have been used by someone, and there was also a used razor in the trash can. I wonder if the cleaning staff threw it away... Therefore, if you want to check in, it is recommended to determine the room type and floor in advance.

The hotel is located not far from the throne of Arthur and is a historic manor. There is its own beautiful lawn and Scottish Highland cattle to take pictures. The decoration in the hotel is beautiful, very careful, and they are all historical relics. The fly in the ointment is that the room is small, but the bed is very comfortable. The hotel's restaurant is also a well-rated English restaurant. You can try it.

This hotel boasts the best location in Edinburgh, very close to the Old Town and super convenient for visiting several attractions. The highlight, though, is definitely the breakfast! Aparthotel is perfectly located and near to everything. We were able to walk easily to most of the nearby attractions, with a lot of restaurants and pubs around. We booked a one‑bedroom apartment that came with a twin bed and a sofa bed, plus a small kitchen where you could cook if you wished. The room was clean, and the facilities felt quite new. Staff were friendly and helpful. Housekeeping wasn’t provided daily, so we had to clear rubbish ourselves and collect tissues or fresh towels from the front desk — not a major inconvenience. The property also had a spacious public area (used as breakfast area in the morning) where people could work or play card or board games. The only issue we encountered was with the laundry service: it was closed the night prior to the scheduled maintenance day, leaving us to carry our dirty clothes around.

The hotel is conveniently located just over a hundred meters from Haymarket train station, and tram and bus stops, making transportation easy. There are many bars and supermarkets nearby, and it's about a twenty-minute walk to the Old Town, Edinburgh University, Princes Street, and the Castle, which is very convenient. The hotel facilities are relatively new, and the rooms are quite spacious; a family of three with an extra bed doesn't feel cramped. The rooms have no strange odors, and they are quiet and soundproof. The breakfast is abundant, with almond milk and oat milk being particularly noteworthy, and a good variety of breads and fruits. I recommend this hotel for family trips.

The hotel is currently undergoing renovations, and I had the chance to see both the pre-renovation and post-renovation rooms. There's a significant difference. The older rooms were just 'okay,' but the renovated ones are absolutely beautiful, on par with five-star hotels in China. The location is fantastic, right next to the large green spaces of the University of Edinburgh, and many attractions are within walking distance. Plus, there are plenty of Chinese restaurants nearby. My only minor disappointment is that the hotel kitchen only has a microwave, no induction hob, so you can't really cook for yourself.
