Stayed here for my birthday, as it was the closest Hilton to Galena. Was in town to do some antiquing. The young man at check in (wish I got his name) was extremely friendly and helpful. He even gave me my choice of room location which was nice. The lady overnight was VERY, VERY UNFRIENDLY. I ended up checking out just after 1AM due to the people two doors down from me being INSANELY loud. I was not confrontational nor upset, as I realize it wasn't her fault.. people are just inconsiderate. I honestly just wanted to leave. She yelled "YES CAN I HELP?" from across the lobby. (Probably shouldn't be sitting on the couch during your shift, it looks unprofessional). When I told her I was going to check out, she responded "what's going on?" Jesus, lady. Chill. I explained to her why i was leaving and the ONLY response i got was "oh, really?!". That was it. No apology. No nothing.

We got here very late after leaving another hotel due to cleanliness issues. The room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was good and plentiful. My issue with this hotel was the noise and the dogs. I understand hotels are noisy on weekends but my problem is that when I call the front desk at 9:30 pm because I have listened to the room above me sound like they are coming thru the ceiling for over 30 minutes and nothing is done, then I get upset. We had to go up and knock on the door ourselves to ask them to be quiet. Same thing when we had to call the people next door at 1:30 am after listening to them for almost 20 minutes. We could recite their conversation back to them word for word! On the other side we had a dog bark continuously from 9-9:30 pm until the owner came back to the room. Obviously the walls are paper thin for us to have that much trouble in one weekend. We were not in the room at all during the day and never used the pool or fitness center. We were there to shower and sleep but will probably try another place to do that next trip. On an up note - the shower was nice with plenty of hot water. The amenities were awesome (J R Watkins) and they had them in large bottles with pumps so you don't have to mess with shaking out product from a tiny bottle. I thought that was nice!

Very nice hotel, clean and nice staff. The problem I had is we were placed next to the arcade. We had an early morning and it was open until 11 PM, the air hockey table was so incredibly loud, we could hear everything in our room that happen in the arcade and tell it was closed.I called several times but they said there was nothing they could do about it because our gate was open until 11.

I stayed here 1 night. Overall, the hotel met my expectations and I would make a few observations. The front desk is behind plastic with a small slit at the bottom to slide things which did work out. The room was fine. The pool and whirlpool were open. and they did offer a free newspaper The breakfast wasn't anything special, but was on par with what you get these days (bread, pastry, banana, yogurt, etc). My biggest annoyance with hotels is regarding getting a receipt since I always prefer getting a copy in some format. I did not have a receipt under my door. When I left, I did not ask as I didn't want to wait. There was not one that I can see in my Radisson Rewards account or an email. My card did get charged the amount of the reservation, though. So, I am trusting that the amount was accurate.

Let’s start with the good...we stayed in a King Suite. It was very clean and comfortable. Great room! Hotel location is good! We were attending a show at Diamond Jo Casino. This hotel is very close. Easy walk to local restaurants and pubs. They also have an on-site restaurant and tap room. We watched a football game, had a couple craft beers and ate from a pub style menu while we were waiting for our room to be ready. So...the meh...we tried to check in a 1/2 hour early at 2:30. The room wasn’t ready so we told them we would go and wait in the bar. Front desk said (more than once) that they would come get us when the room was ready. At 4:00 we went back to the desk. We were forgotten and the suites that were cleaned were given to someone else...we did get a drink coupon (which was nice) and ended up waiting an additional 45 minutes before the room was finally ready...we had to go back to the desk...they never did come get us as they promised.(I had offered my cell number for them to text us when it was ready instead but they were adamant they would come get us). Overall not a huge deal but we did waste almost two hours waiting for the room. Mgmt should review their process for tracking room availability. It was very busy so I’m sure that didn’t help. The staff was however apologetic and professional in their interactions with us.

We needed a quick getaway and decided to stay at this hotel as we always are impressed with Hampton Inn and this place didn't disappoint. Great customer service by Dave at the front desk. Very nice man and welcoming. Our room was very cozy and the bed had to have been the most comfortable bed I have slept on in long time. The breakfast had a nice set up with a lady serving hot food. Great idea during Covid. A few more choices would have been nice but no biggie. One complaint, if any, is that walls are thin and you could hear too much commotion from other rooms. Nice place and we do highly recommend and would stay again if in the area again.

Not sure where to begin with this stay and had the hotel done what they said they would to make things right I wouldn't write this review in the first place... 1. Either short staffed or staffed with employees who are not doing their job (dirty lobby, overflowing garbage cans, my boyfriend was asked...twice...to help with breakfast by the attendant, used earplugs in our toaster upon checking in, and still there the next day after bringing it to the attention of the front desk clerk when we found them while trying to make toast... 2. The area this is located in is near many of the bars in town and while sitting outside near the fire we were harassed by a group of drunken individuals who were not staying at the hotel, but rather were leaving a bar and wandered over for the fire on a cool night. The individuals were inappropriately shouting and spilling their beer all over us, when we asked them to leave they began to argue with us until I went inside to get the front desk attendant while one of the women was putting her hands on my boyfriend's shoulders while swearing at him. The hotel attendants response was, "we can't control who comes over here..." and left it at that. This is not a hotel where you feel safe. 3. I was charged twice, as the hotel was attempting to refund me one night's stay. Additionally, I was charged fees for incidentals that did not belong to me, also the Bonvay account number on my receipt was not associated with me. When I questioned all of this I not only had to spend even more time talking with these individuals BUT (and this is serious...) I was given the NAME, PHONE NUMBER, AND ADDRESS of the woman who was the rightful owner of the Bonvay account they were crediting...they gave me all of her information... 4. I was told that one night's stay would be credited and I would receive points for an additional night onto my Bonvay account. I received a check for one night's stay but nothing else. When I questioned the manger she said that the one night stay credit was more than adequate for the trouble... NO. I spent over 6 hours and 3 days on the phone with these individuals. The money that was taken out of my bank account (over $1,000 for a $400 stay) took 5 days to come back to me and my bank closed my account due to "fraud" because for 2 days the hotel WOULD NOT give me an answer as to what the charges were for. I had to change around all of my account numbers for everything hooked up to that credit card that I used. I have traveled quite a bit in my day and have never experienced anything quite like this. I also stopped writing reviews on TripAdvisor but this stay was so aggravating and my desire to warn others was so great that I came back...just to write this review.

We took the three grandkids for the special Sunday package. It included the water park on Sunday, 4 laser maze passes and $20 in arcade play and free continental breakfast. The kids had a blast and the staff were very nice and helpful. The room overlooked the Mississippi River and we were able to walk the river walk.

We stayed 2 nights on a work layover with our dog and it was great. Cleanest room I've ever seen. You can't beat $49 (+ tax) per night (sun-th I believe). Room had a desk w/chair and fridge. AC was ice cold. Staff was super friendly. The housekeeper, Judy deserves a raise those rooms were so clean. And Alicia at the front desk was super friendly and most efficient. We had a lovely conversation. Definitely stay here if you're in town.

A trip to Dubuque, IA in early December isn't going to net you the height of the season, but my gf and I have our birthdays close together and take a trip to celebrate. The Hotel Julien looked upscale, wasn't too far away, and had all the amenities we were looking for in a weekend away. I'm happy to say, Hotel Julien did not disappoint. The room was ample size, the bed comfortable, plenty of pillows. My suspicion is that the hotel caters more towards people traveling on business than romantic weekends away. One aspect of this is, there is a good sized desk in the room, but no drawers other than bedside tables. It seemed to us that there was an expectation to use the drawers of the desk as a place to put clothing. Odd, but it worked. For the room, there was one drawback. The door to the bathroom is set at an angle, facing the bed. And it doesn't use standard door, it has French style doors that were quite loud when pushing them fully closed. Do that in the middle of the night and you'll wake up your partner. For the same reason, we were loathe to turn on the light because the French doors were just frosted glass. Again, for business travelers traveling alone, it would not be a big deal (but is why I gave it 4 stars). We enjoyed spending some part of most nights in the lounge and the location of the Hotel was great. I'd recommend.

I travel a lot due to my job and I can honestly say that this Super 8 is in my top 5. The room is nice and clean. The bed is actually comfortable which is rare for motel beds. Unlike most motels I've been to, you don't feel like your a burden by staying the night. It is very rare that I feel safe at a motel but this one I feel safe staying here. They have a ice machine that actually works. The continental breakfast is one of the better ones that I've had. The location is perfect. You have a restaurant right next door. Gas station about a half a block away. Main highway that goes in front of the hotel. They have free Wifi and as access to the internet and since the motel computer was being used, she trusted me, (who she just met) to use her personal computer for a short time, so I didn't have to wait for the lobby computer to be free. She did this, even though she didn't have to, which got me on with my evening. I highly recommend Motel 8 in Dubuque if you want to be treated like a traveler should be treated.

This was our first time staying at Richards house bed and breakfast. And my first time staying in Dubuque. Our original visit was to spend time in Galena, so the 15 minute drive out was not a deal breaker. The B&B was recommended by a co-worker who had stayed here a couple times recently. First I would like to say that the owner was very accommodating and let us check in a little later. We were very thankful for that. When we arrived it was dark out so we were unable to properly see the outside exterior of the house. There is still scaffolding at the entrance. Looking at the Photos and reading reviews it may seem like this is an ongoing project that has never been finished. Upon entering the building, you will notice the wood work Mr. Richards has installed. It’s gorgeous. The decor is all vintage with awesome radios, photo’s and antiques. There’s so much to look at. Once you start to really notice the interior you will notice some of the flaws of an older building. I understand this is a 200 year old home, and the Upkeep is both expensive and time consuming, but some of the flaws are cosmetic and kind of took away from the beauty of the home and furnishings. For example, the carpeting is missing on some of the stairs going to the second floor, the banister is missing some wooden decorations, cracks and holes in the walls to make a few. We stayed in the second floor first bedroom which was wonderfully decorated. The head board is gorgeous, the chairs are beautiful and the fireplace was my favorite! It is a working fireplace so falling asleep to a fire was wonderful. The bed was comfortable. I’m used to a firm mattress so I didn’t have any complaints there. They offer several types of pillows for whatever you like so that was a huge plus. The bathroom does not have a stand up shower. It was fine for me since I didn’t plan on washing my hair anyway, but I could see how someone could have a little frustration. Also the wall behind the faucet in the bathroom is starting to grow mold from the water that drips down. They have placed towels on the floor to catch it but the wall is still being water damaged. Waking in the morning and actually seeing the home in daylight was another experience. Breakfast was good! Nice variety of waffles, bacon, eggs and fruit along with coffee and orange juice. However we caught the owners arguing in the kitchen. Kinda made us a little uncomfortable. One of the things I loved (but didn’t partake in) was the fridge on the second floor. She has it stocked with sodas and wine. She also had a sweets table with cakes. All included. That was a wonderful touch. I did go to the fridge to look for water and there was nothing but sodas. I’m not sure if they stock bottled water but I was dying of thirst and found a glass on the sweets table. When we checked out we were able to see the outside and it’s a MESS. It’s such a shame since the inside has been restored. I could understand how some would never want to stay here

Few situations exist where historical cultural enthusiasts can truely experience and immerse themselves in another eras Icon's personal cultivated abode. Many personal spaces are on display or so overly managed that the character or simplicity of just sitting and being in a space is impossible. The Hancock House, built by John T Hancock, grocery mogul and distributor, was and is the epitome of classic Victorian sentiment with a clasic flowing floorplan that allowed us to revisit the formality of spaces; a reading niche nestled by the stairs with a perfect window letting morning sun in, the waiting parlor for guests to occupy, anticipating their host; the cosiest gathering room, off the main dinning room, with a turret space viewing downtown Dubuque and showpiece fireplace. The dining room wether it be for 2 or 20 is breathtaking and filled with beautiful period amenities and is host to an original full room decorative mural the the proprieter has painstakingly kept pristine. We cant say how at home in our "Train Room" we where for the two days we stayed. Little details from the past adorned the room including two Milwaukee Road motive power first additions signed by John Tigges, the author. The house is just simply lovely but wouldnt be the destination it is without the passion and charm of the proprietor and host, Simon... we where lucky enough to have good conversations about the property and its history, his passion for real estate, our passions about antiquity... we even had breakfast with one of his guests our last morning. Just a delightful fellow and he gave us carte blanc to enjoy the space and the quest kitchenette comes with the best Earl Grey loose leaf from London Ive had since my English step mother sent me a Fortnum & Mason box. You owe it to yourself to explore a most pristine, peaceful and truely elegant piece of Americas past with a memorable stay in one of the many, spectacularly amenitied rooms and views at the Hancock House. Simon will have you in the lap of luxury and nostalgia from the very first moment. And you are just a walk down the original public stairway to the clasic district of downtown. A must for any traveling enthusiast or just a plain ol' romantic! Lovely.....

Service was excelent. We met another couple and hit the breweries in Dubuque. All within walking distance from the B&B. The only thing I had to complain about is that the air conditioner could have worked better. My wife and I like it cold. lol I would stay there again if the opportunity arises.

My 2 youngest attended a weeklong sports camp at LORAS COLLEGE. Friday was graduation so my wife and I headed up Thursday night to take in the sights. We booked this hotel. After spending the afternoon hiking in Galena we finally approached hotel at 10PM. Now you can see hotel plain as day on hwy 20 but not so easy manuevering into lot.I havent seen an entrance like this in decades! Might want to update? Check in was great I think employees name was Tristian? he told me pool was still open so I took advantage even though it was small I was by myself.Room was everything I expect from Fairfield large and clean! Breakfast in the morning was tasty and employees were nice. Hotel was 5 minute ride to campus.I enjoyed this hotel but heres why I cant recomend to anyone. At exactly midnight this loud engine noise started? I thought maybe my air conditioner? No! Put on my sandals and went outside. 100 yards next door is an Olive Garden and there is a box truck carpet cleaning with a JET ENGINE running? Unbelievable! how can anyone sleep? Isnt that against the law? Stayed on for 50 minutes! I know this has nothing to do with the hotel but thats crazy!

Dude. The setup of this place is so sick, it's nestled in under a cliff overhanging most of the hotel. The rooms on the south side face the highway below and the north side are tucked in under the massive wall of rock. There's a bar where drinking folks seemed to be ignoring the pandemic completely. A lot of mini-gatherings outside of individual rooms as well. My partner and I were eyed suspiciously, I suppose because of our masks? We had a problem with the hotel wifi not working, and the front desk was pretty unhelpful. They kept saying that it wasn't working that good in our corner of the hotel, without offering to move us. Eventually after several calls to the front desk I insisted on a room transfer and it was granted. When we got to the new room the wifi worked, sort of. Anyway if internet is something you really need in your room (as we did that night), maybe think twice about staying here, or make sure you're staying in a part of the hotel where the signal is strong. All that said, the atmosphere was so unique I would definitely stop by again, hopefully when there's no pandemic. Oh, another fun detail. Like many hotels, because of Covid they were advertising a "to go" breakfast bag in lieu of the traditional breakfast buffet. When I came by in the morning to pick up a bag, I was offered one of those little boxes of Froot Loops that come in the variety pack. The clerk said if I wanted milk it was in the next room. In the next room was a big bowl full of plastic bottles of milk and orange juice floating in ice water, and a few soggy boxes of Girl Scout Cookies. We wound up going out for breakfast instead.

We spent two nights at this property. As another reviewer mentioned, the landscaping is basically non-existent and there is no curb appeal. Probably wouldn't have stayed there had we been driving through and needed to find a room for the night. Chose this hotel as we prefer a room that is accessible and those are few and far between. It also had the added advantage of accepting pets. (Hadn't intended to bring my 20 year-old cat when I made the reservations three weeks ago but decided I just couldn't leave him home alone. He would miss his thyroid medication and didn't want that to happen.) So that is a plus. Also, we had a room with two queen beds and we both commented that the mattress was very comfortable on each bed. Another plus. However, a big disappointment was finding that the available electrical outlets were not great. We both use a C-PAP machine and there was only one functioning outlet near the beds. Knew it was a bad sign on finding the bed-side clock plugged in but not showing any time. The outlet by the table also had only one functioning outlet. We have learned not to rely on the hotels so we had two power strips in the luggage. So it was okay but we would have been in a bad place if we hadn't brought the power strips.
