The kitchen features durable quartz counters, a built-in dishwasher and is stocked with utensils, pots, pans, serving ware and coffee. The living room has a large cozy sectional. The dining area overlooks the marsh and palm trees. Down the hall you'll find two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master has a king bed and day bed with a full bathroom and walk in closet attached. The second bedroom has a queen bed and it's own private bathroom. The private balcony overlooks the marshlands where you can watch the sunset every night. A washer and dryer is in our unit.Covered parking for two spaces is right below our unit. Also is a locked storage unit with two bikes, two beach chairs, a beach umbrella and tent. There are two rooms plus a covered patio and a concrete area for you personal use. You now can grill out and have fresh seafood, steak, etc.. on our brand new gas grill right outside your door. We added a small "Oster" oven one big enough to baked potatoes, pizza, bread, veggies. Also on the grill there is a side burner for eggs and bacon to start your morning off.When you walk into the unit you will find our kitchenette, with your appliances, full refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave and our new Oster oven....sink for washing dishes and a large shower.Then you will walk into the bedroom area with a queen size bed, a futon for a 3rd person, a new desk in case you need to touch base with work , a new flat screen 40" TV install on the wall which can be moved for your viewing with 200 channels n free wi/fi provided by Comcast. And you have your half bath area. There are 2 separate doors you can used to enjoy your covered patio to relax, catch up with one another or just sit and watch the 'Folly's" walk by...what a site that is!! lol...Brand new furniture including a love seat, 2 nice chairs, and a glass table.Also we have a table to use to eat, drink, and be merry. The Tiny Shack With a little engineering and shabby-sheik ingenuity we turned our old office and storage space into Folly Beach’s cutest efficiency unit with all brand new construction, finishes, and décor. Think small and pretty. If you are an NFL lineman and your significant other is a WNBA star this is not the place for you. It is tiny, yes, but has everything you need for the perfect getaway. You have a full size bed to cuddle close and nap after a great beach day. Watch TV on the flat screen, or prep some snacks in the kitchenette. Your bistro table is more like a corner spot at a cozy Manhattan mini bar, and you can shower in luxury in the brand new tile bath with a modern sleek glass shower that feels more like The Ritz Carlton in Fiji than TheRathershacks on Folly. The main room measures 10ft x12ft- not including the 3ft x 5ft kitchenette, 5ft x 6ft bath, and 2ft x 4ft closet. Outside the front door you have your own dedicated covered patio so you can max relax, all under the watchful eyes of a mermaid and her dolphin friends. You have a small semi-private fenced back yard where there is a grill to channel your inner Bobby Flay or Rachel Ray, and an outdoor shower to wash off the sand and sea of the day. You will have the biggest yard on our property and it is fully fenced for your exclusive use to hang out and feel the morning sunshine with your coffee, or relax in the shade after a long day in the sun. It has its own outdoor shower to rinse the sand from your toes and the sunscreen from your back. The yard is great for little kids to play in and be fully contained. And.. you’ve got your own gas grill to fire up and feed your brood after a fun-filled day at the beach. Inside there is lots of charm and beach feel decor at no extra charge as this unit has all new beach-style furnishings, and tile floors. The open floor plan to the kitchen is great for for casual gatherings after your day at the beach and has a separate door to access your back yard. A fully stocked kitchen awaits you with all the utensils etc., a full stove, microwave, and dishwasher. This 2 BR features a large master with king bed, local art work, and shabby chic charm. The second bedroom has 2 twin beds for the kids, or in a pinch you can roll them together for a cozy couple. Lots of charm and beach feel decor at no extra charge as this unit has all new beach-style furnishings, flooring, paint, new roof, and new air conditioning installed. All cottages have open floor plans for casual gatherings after your day at the beach. This Unit has a fully stocked kitchen utensils etc with microwave and dishwasher. The 2 BR features a large master with a queen bed and the second bedroom has a full bed, plenty of changing room. Super clean no allergens pet dander etc as we do not allow pets. Units have Free TV, Smart TV and WIFI. Off Street parking for 1 vehicles included. . Gas grill on site available for you grill masters out there. Riding bikes is one of our favorite things to do around around here, and look at all the sugar shacks, moderate homes, and homemade fishing piers plopped right next to the occasional McMansion. The Happy ShackIt’s a bittersweet offering that you are able to stay in one of our newest shacks. You see the Happy Shack was the unit WE lived in for 3 summers. We chose it because as you’ll see it is the best on our property-with 2 good sized bedrooms, each with their own full bath. We lived and loved every inch of it. From the front yard which has full afternoon sun, and is protected from the wind for those marginal beach days, to the high fence and overgrown vines you can pull up a chair and catch the shade on those 98 degree humid July afternoons. It has the biggest grill on property for you to fire up the burgers and steaks to perfection. In addition, you have an outdoor shower tucked away to wash off the salt and sand after a day at the beach. But it’s the INSIDE that we added all the little touches that will make you fall in love with her. With big windows facing south and west you can be flooded with sunshine (or draw the shades as you wake up on the couch with a well -earned hangover). For a touch of nostalgia you have our ORIGINAL Rathershacks sign in the vaulted ceiling living room. Also, you have one of our very cool dual headed fans to keep you comfortable and enhance the central air (let us know when you figure out which button makes it spin). The kitchen island was made from reclaimed wood from an 1860’s tobacco barn and is vintage South Carolina. We were going to take it with us to our new house across the street but it’s too darn heavy, so you win. All the appliances were upgraded to stainless steel so there is an air of Five Star luxury to your kitchen experience. You can’t miss our custom designed sunglasses + car key holder and sunscreen supply shelf—both are needed nooks for a vacation at the beach. It is our master bedroom we will miss the most…It gets morning sun, and you can watch the squirrels play on the lattice fence outside on most mornings. Our headboard is an old fireplace mantle found upstate in a 1905 Victorian house that we meticulously restored. It is the romantic centerpiece of our home, and this old mantle keeps her secrets. We painted it 49 shades of VERY LIGHT gray-nothing crazy-- so we hope you enjoy yourselves thoroughly! The second bedroom is adorned with a nautical theme and you will feel your inner ocean when you snooze. Both bathrooms have all new tile and fixtures so you can clean up in luxury as you head out on the town. From here you are a quick 2 minute walk to the beach and you can hear the ocean waves off the back porch decks. Center Street-- where all the Folly Beach restaurants and shops are-- is just 5 blocks away. So you are close enough to walk, but far enough away to NOT HEAR the bars and the bands. The house is Located on a cul de sac at the end of a quiet residential street , and like many island homes is up on stilts with mature oak trees and palm trees all around so you can channel your tree fort days as a kid.West Beach Court is a dead end street, and -not a through street like many on Folly so there is very little traffic. Although the neighborhood is not private it feels that way….And huge bonus…. the entire street was paved in Spring 2023 so it’s a smooth ride in your car or your bikes. The new paving also makes for better dribbling at the neighborhood basketball hoop at the end of your driveway If you bring the kids they will thank you as the fully fenced back yard abuts a real live PLAYGROUND. Yep, it’s one of two kiddie playgrounds on Folly Beach. And the vacation mayhem is right beyond your fence providing another theater of operations outside of the beach for your little monsters to run wild. If you don’t bring the kids then know that its super quiet at night since there is nobody in the playground. Either way, everybody will sleep great in this quiet little slice of Folly.The huge driveway and undercarriage can hold 4 cars easily and the neighborhood is one of the few sections of Folly outside of Center Street that has City of Folly Beach sewer service…. Why is this not-so-pleasant factoid important you ask? Well, many of the rental properties on Folly have delicate septic systems. So combine the big pipes of City Sewer with the brand new Tankless hot water system, and new washer / dryer in house and you have unlimited capacity for poop and laundry!!Inside, the house plays bigger than its 1800 sq ft with an open floor plan, vaulted ceilings and counter seating in the kitchen. The décor is light and bright with the blond hardwood floors adding durability to your stay. Plantation shutters brings a Southern Charm, and you’ll love the fully loaded kitchen and dine up bar for entertaining. Newer stainless appliances and a brand new ice maker sets you up for the many chill drinks you will be making to beat the Carolina heat. The dining room is the pivot point of the house with a huge 400lb handcrafted rustic dining table made of decades-old reclaimed solid wood that took 4 dudes to carry up the stairs. It puts the heavy in your duty here at Cul de Shack!. And to lighten things up right next to it within easy reach is a dedicated wine fridge. Living room has 60” TV and is hung over the gas log fireplace which you can fire up for ambiance at any time. And, just off your main living space are TWO outside entertaining options – a fully screened porch if you prefer that but also an open air outdoor deck with gas grill for your locally caught shrimp on the Barbie. And from both you can hear the ocean waves in the distance.Your bedroom lineup is pretty versatile. Main floor off of the Living Room you have a full bed with ensuite full bath, and upstairs the master suite kicks ass with a king bed, walk in closet, and Mini deck with French doors looking into the trees and houses beyond. And maybe if the leaves and wind are right you'll get a peek -a-boo view of the Atlantic between the 2 roofs in the distance. Though rest assured you can hear it even if you can’t see it—making for some serious slumber. An oversized bathroom is ensuite but is shared with the bunk room that sports a Full size mattress bunk set up and 2 twin beds in a trundle style. With this room you can have plenty of room as a romantic couple, or pack the kids all in one “situation room.” Just outside the bedrooms at the top of the stairs is a balcony work desk space with full Wifi and Ethernet hook up.Other house amenities include new dual zone HVAC system installed April 2023 so you can reliably crank the AC on the hottest of humid days we get down south in July and August. Under the house there is a hot and cold outdoor shower to wash away the sea and salt of the day. And a Bowflex home gym with dumbbells in case you want to get pumped up before tossing the corn hole bags in the custom set provided. We got you fully covered for beach action with beach chairs, a beach wagon, and beach towels too. The back yard is spacious and instead of grass you have the cushiony wood chips making for resilient play surface for the kids, or a soft landing if you get too wasted and can’t make it to the house. Since it gets sun and shade all day you can find some comfort for all of the different folks in your tribe… And as mentioned above, right through a gate in your private yard is the entrance to Wave Watch Playground and a path to the beach access.Read on if you want more color commentary on your hosts….It’s only fitting as this is our FIRST Folly Beach property to be on the coveted City sewer system that we celebrate a bunch of other FIRSTS. For you see the owner, Mark is my oldest friend from growing up in Boston--all the way back to 4th grade little league--and we shared a lot of FIRSTS together in our teenage years. I like to think he and his wife Missy came to live on Folly because of me but it was their daughter going to College of Charleston that brought them to the area. They stayed at many of our Shacks over the years before finally buying down here, and we are grateful they asked us to manage their place. In fact one of their daughters is featured in many of our RatherShacks promo videos. So here we are-- after 40 years--- me and my oldest Homie living again within a bike ride distance of each other, just like when we were kids. And with the scorecard of “firsts” we logged together the last time we lived in such close proximity reading like a Juvi wrap sheet we made a pact with our wives to BEHAVE down here on Folly.So…what exactly were the “firsts” that Mark and I assembled together during our teenage years? Stories for another day when the cooler is full, but here are the highlights: First time drunk, check. First time stoned, check. First time ever seeing real live female breasts outside of a magazine, check. And the topper… First time getting arrested, CHECK. YEP, he was right there with me for all of ‘em. And the actual arrest charges ? Nothing violent I assure you, just a couple of 16 year olds skipping school and getting drunk and disorderly in a mall parking lot at 9am right across the street from a donut shop where all the town cops hang out. At some point in your life you have to make your “worst decision ever,” and Mark and I nailed it together in our sophomore year of high school. As we like to say we’ve been to war together and back, and in a way we have. It also has a 70 inch floating electric fireplace that provides heat and ambiance. The room opens up with 16ft wide glass doors bringing the indoor and breathtaking outdoor living experience to the entire family. In the evenings you will find yourself siting with your feet in the sand at the natural gas fire pit overlooking the pool and cabana. We didn’t cut corners or expense to create a beautiful, safe, designed experience for you.Everyone has their own indoor and outdoor living quarters. The backyard is a shared space. Each bedroom has blackout shades, an organic, latex (and spring (medium-firm) mattress by Plushbeds, mattress, and pillow protectors, - no microfiber used in any of the linens. Each room has solid wood furniture (with some exceptions) all floors are sold hardwood, and all bathrooms have walk-in showers. The master bathroom has terrazzo tile, and each tile throughout the house is unique. Each room is designed for comfort and is stylish but comfortable. Spread out into the separate living/dining area’s double La-Z-Boy couches w/ ottomans or a recliner to relax; or dine in and play one of the board games in comfort at the table... After your done exploring Folly or visiting Charleston, which is only 15 minutes away; wind down and enjoy a night in with the new smart 65" HDTV/Blue Ray DVD. WIFI available. A king sized bed is in the master bedroom along with plenty of storage to nicely house all of your possessions. The 2nd bedroom although smaller in size has a queen sized bed along with providing ample storage as well. Rest assured, since both the mattresses and all the pillows are encased in allergy/bed bug protectors. The linens are freshly sanitized and the beds are already made upon your arrival along with bath towels. Flat screens are also available in both of the bedrooms.
