Recently stayed in this beautiful little B and B situated in a quiet area of Lucca but everywhere is easily accessible and within walking distance. The room was of a good size and very clean with lovely white towels in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable with nice squashy pillows. The breakfast was delicious! We certainly didn't need any lunch! You can also help yourself to tea and coffee at anytime so nice to sit on the terrace with a cuppa after returning from a busy day. We found the atmosphere of the B and B very relaxed which made our stay even more pleasant. Especially loved the dog! Would recommend it!

This place is brand new (they just opened on May 11, 2019 – about 4 months ago). New is nice, new is clean. And the A/C worked great (wonderfully welcome as hot as it was during our visit). The B&B is a relatively short & easy walk from the train station. From the front of the station, head across the street and through the city wall. Veer left onto Corso Garibaldi then, after a few blocks, turn right onto Via San Girolama. After passing by smaller Piazza del Giglio (on the right) and larger Piazza Napoleone (on the left), you’re on Via Beccheria and the B&B is just a few meters ahead on the right (under the archways). From this home base, you’re just a few short blocks from the intersection of north-south Via Fillungo with the east-west Via San Paulino-Via Roma-Via Santa Croce “thoroughfare” which puts you pretty much in the middle of things for Lucca. For those of you who are big fans of elevators (“lifts”), surprise - they’ve actually got one here! You’ll go up 4-5 steps just inside the front door, but then there’s an elevator to go up one floor to the B&B. As I said, it’s new, so that’s all good. Some of the little “homey” touches that many B&B’s have are missing, perhaps because of its “newness,” but I expect they’ll get better at this quickly as the family that runs it is working very hard to make this place perfect. Among the small things that we would’ve appreciated include a couple of wine glasses in the room, a hot-water maker for tea, a wastebasket for the bedroom (in addition to the tiny one already in the bathroom), a second little soap for taking a shower (there was only one provided for the sink), and we would’ve loved a small refrigerator so we could keep a bottle of water or beer cold. But those are all pretty picky little items so I’m still inclined to rate this place very highly.

Our friends raced about their stay here in 2018 so once we knew we were headed to Lucca, we called up La Boheme to make a reservation. We booked several months in advance and had our choice of rooms. We selected Madame Butterfly, mainly because it said it was quiet. On the way in, I contacted Laura for driving directions and to reserve parking at the intown garage. If you are driving in, you need a small car. If our Opel Astra has been even an inch bigger, we would have scraped up Lucca’s walls. Luckily we just barely fit. Our google maps got extremely confused with the intown directions and we got overwhelmed with trying to drive through crowds of people. We eventually found it and sweet Laura came out and helped us with luggage and navigated us securely into the parking garage. Madame Butterfly is large and spacious. We had plenty of space to spread out and get cozy. Our bathroom had both a bathtub with a hand shower and a standing shower (that might be small for anyone over 6ft). It’s a beautiful room and even had a TV, something we didn’t have for the past 4 days in our Tuscan country house. We slept great at Madame Butterfly thanks to our very quiet room. It was hot in Lucca and we were so pleased with our air conditioner in the room. The afternoon sun comes right into Madame Butterfly and the curtains are not blackout curtains so the room gets very warm. I did wind up using my personal battery operated fan on the nightstand in the room to keep super cool at night. We enjoyed wandering the streets of Lucca with La Boheme as our home base. We had amazing dinners both nights: Buca di S Antonio and Da Pasquale. Both are absolutely amazing and require advance reservations that can be made online/via email. Da Pasquale is just a few doors down and definitely a must! Laura also gave great advice to rent bikes down the street at Pro+, which is nearby and has electric bikes that are super fun. Laura is a true host and her hospitality contributed to our positive experience. If we ever find ourselves in Lucca again, we will definitely stay there again!

We visited Italy two years ago and stayed a month. This Autumn, we returned to Italy and spent three weeks. The lone place that we returned to on this trip was Lucca and back to the lovely L’Antica Bifore. The return trip was just as good as the first trip. Both Brid and Stefano were waiting for us with eager arms. The location could not be better, being located in the heart of the old town, just at the start or end of the shopping district. Restaurants and gelato shops are all very close by, along with a beautiful church in the nearby square. We took advantage of using their recommendations for dinner. They made the reservations for us, so all we had to do was show up. The restaurant personnel were wonderful. Coming in on a recommended reservation apparently allows you a few perks, including a table with a great view, a complimentary glass of sparkling wine and folks falling over themselves to make certain you have a great meal. Bride and Stefano also go out their way to make the stay pleasant. Their morning breakfast is super including a few homemade goodies by Brid. They will spoil you in fixing coffee and offering recommendations as to where and what to do. We stayed there for 4 nights. Two years ago we stayed for 5 nights. Unfortunately, many of the guests who come to stay, will only stay one night. Once they get to Lucca to see what a rich place it is, they often regret their spending only one night. I would certainly recommend staying a minimum of three nights or even more. It is close enough to Pisa, that tours can be made to go to the Cinque Terra, Lucca, wineries, cooking classes, live Puccini aria performances nightly, Pisa, Sienna, San Gimignano, Volterra, or catch the train for Florence. We have done all of this out of Lucca. We did enjoy our trip to Florence, but we were delighted to return to Lucca. Liked the ambiance, atmosphere and pace much better than Florence. There are far fewer crowds. L’Antica Bifore is a beautiful space. With gracious hosts, at a very competitive price, you can’t go wrong. Will we return? Absolutely!!

What a fantastic hotel in an amazing location. Rooms well appointed and nicely decorated and maintained. Truly impressed by the hospitality of the staff. Even though we only stayed 1 night, we got to speak to the staff individually and this really left a lasting feeling of welcomeness. Roberto was super friendly and always ready to assist. Mario is likewise attentive to his customers. The woman serving us at breakfast ensured a great start of the day: quick and very good service; a perfect start of the day. All in all, the staff makes an already great place even better. I will surely return and recommend everyone visiting Lucca to stay here.

My husband and I stayed at the Giada palace for 4 nights. The rooms were spacious, clean and the beds were very comfortable. What really made our stay was the fact that the staff were so friendly and helpful and that nothing was too much trouble. Having the pool meant that we were able to cool off in the hot afternoon and we didn't mind the 20 minute walk to the walls of Lucca. We were also able to rent bikes from the hotel for only €5 each a day which was a lot cheaper that the bike rentals in the centre. Being able to sit outside every morning and have breakfast was lovely and with plenty of choice it really set us up for the day. If you are looking for a nice relaxing short break with a bit of sightseeing thrown in then this is the hotel for you!

We were lucky enough to spend one night at the B and B, wished it had been longer. We found the accommodation to be excellent, beautifully furnished and very clean. Our bedroom was very spacious as was the bathroom. The breakfast was brilliant, a large variety to choose from including meat, cheeses, croissants, various cakes and pastries. Different types of coffee, juices, tea was in plentiful supply as well. Our host would replenish foods even though there were only 6 guests occupying the 3 rooms available. There is a beautiful garden you can sit in too but unfortunately we did not get the chance to use it. I would definitely stay here again should we visit Lucca again.

Centrally located in the walled city of Lucca the main reception was quaint and homely. The Manager, Fabrizo was obliging and friendly, he looked after us so well. The Apperteiths (free) which came with our drinks were delicious and continually topped up. There was a beautiful outside seated area where we could enjoy evening drinks and the breakfast was great. Some of the rooms may not be in the main hotel as was ours but very close by. The rooms were all differently appointed, all were quirky. Loved staying here.

Stayed in this traditional Italian villa for 7 nights on a group tour of Tuscany. Set in amongst pine trees and olive groves with magical gardens from a bygone era, views of mountains & towards Lucca. Peaceful location (with parking & wi-fi). Traditional styling in dining/breakfast room with a good selection of good quality continental breakfast, including local cheeses and meats, plus usual cereals, croissants, fresh fruit & yoghurt, as well as bacon and scrambled eggs. Dinner for our large group was served in the former cellar restaurant (where you can see the new and immaculately clean kitchen & chef). Food was good, always hot, and well presented for the amount of people in our group (40). We could choose from a selection of starters & main courses, but always served a set anti-pasti platter of meats/cheeses or roasted veg & salad bowls, and a set dessert. Portions are very generous. Wine selection seemed to vary daily, but averaged €12-€20 a bottle. The villa is a beautiful old building, so expect a few quirks! For example, hit & miss hot water and some of the fittings (in bathroom) are a bit tired. Bedrooms are traditionally furnished in dark Tuscan style, with large antique furniture. Our super-king bed was extremely comfortable. Given the age of the building all rooms & areas are very clean. Staff are very friendly and try really hard for you, however again a few "quirks" over wine orders, bar service, breakfast service which added to the amusement of our group! One disappointment is that the only public area does a multitude of jobs - the main hall contains the Reception desk, the (small) bar but lacks enough comfortable seating - the hotel is missing out here as I'm sure more people would buy more drinks if you could sit in the area. Saying that, our evenings were chillier, so if it was warm weather there is a lovely terrace in the garden with plenty of tables & chairs. If you're looking for a boutique/slick hotel, then this maybe not for you, but if you are after a "go with the flow" old-fashioned, laid-back Tuscan experience it ticks a lot of the boxes. It's difficult to explain some of its uniqueness & quirkiness, but we really enjoyed it and ultimately loved staying at Villa San Michelle. We've never stayed anywhere quite like it before, and yes we would return again if we were to re-visit the area!

We had to catch a very early flight to Dublin and we stayed in Hotel Rex in Lucca as it's only a short train ride to Pisa. The hotel was lovely. The location, beside the station was excellent and the staff couldn't have been nicer. When we checked in we were greeted by a lovely friendly girl at reception (I think it was Valentina). We left our bags up to the comfortable rooms and we went for a stroll in the old city of Lucca, which is really beautiful. Later that evening we were recommended a restaurant (Trattoria Pizzeria Da Francesco which was simply amazing) by the night porter, a lovely friendly man. There was a huge array of fresh food and coffee for the breakfast early the following morning. we were very impressed. On our return home to Ireland I discovered that I had left a baseball cap in the hotel room. I emailed the hotel and Valentina got back to me to say that they had found it. I asked if it would be possible to send it to me. Valentina happily obliged and didn't even wish to have the postage sent to her. This is really fantastic customer service. I cannot recommend Hotel Rex enough. Just for the staff alone it is worth staying here. Well done to you all for making our trip to Italy so much better. We will definitely be back.

Nothing was to much trouble either being very helpful offering advice, lifts etc. We stayed in room 3 pleasantly decorated spotlessly clean with air con on suite bathroom shower etc. We also breakfast which was basically cereal pastries etc all individually packed . I asked if i could have something a bit more as sweet stuff was not good 4 me due to being diabetic he took this on board straight away the following morning we had cheese ham boiled eggs wholemeal bread excellent and once again thanks to you both for exceptional hosts

This was my favourite place of all the places we stayed in Italy. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a nice stay. The room as huge with windows on three sides with amazing views. The bathroom had a huge soaker tub and was stoked with everything you would need. Breakfast was amazing and was served outside on the terrace when the weather is nice. We didn't get to use the pool but it also looked really nice. What we loved the most was the country location but you would need a car to visit this area. We would definitely return to this hotel.

Great communication from the hotel prior to arrival. Our flight was delayed so Fabio even sent me a video on WhatsApp on how to check in out of hours ! We found all staff polite, friendly and courteous. The room was good, not the largest, but fairly standard for Italy, it was spotlessly cleaned every day. A great location with parking, rental bikes to explore Lucca and a nice pool area. About that, I suppose it was August and the hotel was pretty full, but there's only a certain amount of loungers by the pool and these would be snared by towel leaving guests from quite early on, and then not used for hours! Poor manners from guests rather than a hotel issue really. Breakfast was more than adequate and staff had serving it 'Covid style' nailed down. Turn right out of the hotel and there's a bar, bakery, butcher and small restaurant (lunch only) a two minute walk away for when you fancy a change of scenery from the hotel or Lucca. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at San Marco again.

My family and I truly loved our week-long stay at La Cappella. It's a gorgeous property high above the city center of Lucca. With that said, it's best to have a car. We did not, and ended up getting taxis every time. Apparently there are only 25 taxis in Lucca, so it was not always easy for us to get to the city center. The entire staff at La Cappella are incredibly helpful, generous, and hospitable, including their little kitten Allericco! We enjoyed spending time on their patio playing cards, reading, and taking in the beautiful view. They also offer the most incredible dinner. It was always fantastic! Breakfast in the mornings were equally as good. Our rooms were nice, tidy and clean. It was an amazing experience and a wonderful stay at La Cappella. If you want to escape the city and be off the beaten track, then you will love La Cappella too!

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this lovely hotel. We went to celebrate my partners birthday. We arrived from Pisa airport by car and it’s about a 30 minute drive. Beautiful villa and grounds. Check in went ok but we were disappointed that the restaurant would be closed during our stay. We were in room 110 a ground floor room in the smaller building near the pool area. The room was fine. Classically furnished which is in keeping with the age of the property. Large bed. Bathroom with no bath but a decent shower. My partner said the toiletries were a bit lacking, no body lotion or conditioner. The wardrobe a hole in the wall, was also very small but we managed as it was only a short stay. The aircon worked well which was good as it was very hot weather while we were there. Breakfast was served from 8am and wasn’t bad. You couldn’t help yourself to the buffet due to Covid but the waiting staff did their best to bring you the items you wanted and they also brought us coffee and juice to our table which was outside. The staff were all very good and the reception staff made dinner reservations for us at nearby restaurants. They were also helpful with printing our boarding passes. The grounds are lovely and there is a superb swimming pool which was perfect temperature. Plenty of nice sun beds . It all looked new. All in all we enjoyed our stay. It would have been nice if the restaurant had been open but there is a great one at the end of the road. I would recommend this hotel and be happy to return.

If you want a central location, some where clean & comfortable, with friendly staff and great value for money B & B Anfiteatro is just the place for you. Located next to piazza dell Antfiteatro the place is right in the centre of Lucca with easy walking to all site's of interest and good restaurants. The railway station is just over 1KM walk (15 mins easy walking). The B&B is clean and comfortable with good sleep quality. Breakfast is next door and offered a range of choices, coffee was excellent and cakes out of this world. Staff are really helpful and friendly. In terms of places to eat and drink you don't have to walk very far to find something for all tastes with some good restaurants in the piazza across the road. There is a supermarket near by that sells beer, wines and snacks and anything else you might need. The B&B is tucked away and not the easiest to find on arrival. The place and location are charming and is part of traditional Lucca/Italy.

We very much enjoyed our stay at La Gemma and would not hesitate to return! What was meant to be a short stay turned into a long-stay because we appreciated our accommodations so much and fell in love with the city of Lucca! Our room had a large comfortable bed with good linens, a sofa for lounging and a flat-screen TV. The bathroom was modern and had good water pressure in the shower. We also had a private balcony which was very appreciated. Although we had no cooking facilities, we were invited to use the breakfast room as we wished (there were not many other guests during our stay so there was no breakfast served in this part of the building) -- they had a fridge, microwave, coffee and tea making facilities and dishes/utensils as needed. The location was perfect for us -- inter-mural near the wall, close to services such as self-serve laundry, restaurants, bars. Easy walking throughout the city. Thank you to Gian-Luca and the rest of the staff for a wonderful stay -- we hope to return one day!

After reading all the great reviews about Lucca in Villa we were really disappointed with our accommodation which had more of a good youth hostel feel rather than any other type of accommodation - it didn't really fit into any category as it was neither a B and B or hotel. If weren't so rushed for time in the area we would have found other accommodation. It seems as though this place has missed out on the fundamental things. Our room was on the ground floor, just next to the main door where other guests came and went all day and night, with just a single door from the main stairwell, which had a gap underneath it - so we could hear everything. We couldn't use the bathroom at nighttime/evening with the light on as there were flimsy, badly fitting net curtains, which were still 5mm short all the way around. Which meant that if we put the light on everyone could see us from the carpark or from the office which was just at the back of our bedroom. Even in the day time it felt as though they could see in so we managed to prop a towel up on the shower so we could have some privacy. Someone working there said that they had seen guests taking a shower and that they had had complaints but management wouldn't do anything. The other issues were the paper-thin walls and ceilings, we could hear everything from the room above including someone being sick in the toilet. The room, although nicely decorated felt really odd as though it used to be some kind of institutional building such as a mental hospital or an old peoples home, it didn't have the feeling or layout of an old villa or house. The other issue was the single pained windows, we could hear all the traffic going past the property from the busy road, thank goodness we were at the back of the villa. On the last day we didn't have any hot water, we mentioned this to management but they didn't say anything. As I said the basics have not been addressed but the good things about the villa were: A fantastic breakfast, probably the best we've had even at a 5-star hotel Friendly, helpful staff on the ground Comfortable bed and a clean bedroom Free use of bikes to get in and out of Lucca Perfect location for getting in and out of Lucca This place could be amazing if they just simply invested some money into the basics. The reasons why I am writing this review rather than sending them an email as suggested by their team is that when I read back through the reports from a few years ago guests were still having the same problems we experienced. It's really time they at least put up some curtains up in the bathrooms, as this falls well below any basic standard of accommodation.

Our room was a large room on the ground floor with comfortable beds and a pleasant bathroom. The breakfasts are a superior continental type with lots of variety of cheese, meat, fruit, yoghurt, etc. The breakfasts are served in a pleasant ground floor room looking out on a patio. In the afternoon there is coffee and tea available and some pastries or croissants, in the same room, and these can be eaten outside on the patio, The staff are really great. We were delighted to have found this true gem of a B&B located approximately 2 kilometers from Lucca. Serena communicated with us very quickly from stage of booking to our departure. We requested an early check in as our flight arrived early in Pisa which was accommodating by Serena, giving us directions by bus on arrival in Lucca to accessing our room via safely deposit box at entrance which we greatly appreciated. Serena texted us to check we had arrived & came to welcome us shortly afterwards, giving us information including maps & bus tickets. We heading off on the bikes available to guests free of charge to explore Lucca, pedestrian crossing directly outside & cross road to pedestrians & cycle lane directly to Porta dell Anna which was wonderful. Our room ( Serena) located at the rear & overlooking the lovely terrace from breakfast room was wonderful, bed & pillows so comfy & bathroom larger than I have experienced in other areas of Italy. Breakfast was very good, including juice/ cereals/ pastries/ sweet cakes & super Italian coffee, we were looked after by Julia who was, like Serena so helpful & pleasant, it was a pity we couldn’t have enjoyed breakfast on the beautiful terrace due to weather but we did enjoy a glass or two of wine in the evenings before dinner. Serena recommended a few local restaurants which we thoroughly enjoyed especially Donna Sofia. The bus stop is located left as you leave B&B Alma.. brilliant service Lam Blu brings you directly through Lucca to the railway station which we found invaluable! I would highly recommend B&B Alma nice to be located outside touristy area & living with the locals ( the buses unfortunately stop at 8.30pm but it’s a nice 25-30 walk) Thanks again Serena & Julia we so enjoyed our stay & will be recommending you to our friends Ciao Maria

What an amazing place! This agroturismo was a real find and we were blown away by the accommodation, food and the hospitality of the owners. It was in a quiet location, a few kilometers from Lucca so a car is definitely necessary. Katerina and Paolo are superb hosts and work tirelessly to make their guests stay a superb one. We drank their own wine on the veranda whilst relaxing before going out to dinner, saw all their wonderful produce in the garden and heard the chickens. The breakfast was to die for - lots of Katerina's home made produce including the bread and conserves. Plenty of eggs, cooked to order and a feast of cheese, hams, freshly picked tomatoes, yoghurt - you name it and they had it. They fully deserve their certified organic status. We look forward to our next visit - hopefully for longer next time.

Very welcoming start by husband and wife team . They do not live on premises. Everything brand new and spotless. Our room was twin bedded . Lots of space with tea coffee making facilities . As it has just a few rooms, we felt it was almost like having a private apartment - we only saw other guests at breakfast . Breakfast was cereals yogurts fruits and pastries etc all very fresh . Very quiet area and just ten minutes walk to the centre .There are many lovely restaurants nearby. We made full use of the outside space and sat out on the terrace each day after our various long walks and visits to other towns - with a glass of wine of course! You wont be disappointed with this new b and b .

This was our home from home during our stay in Lucca. It is less than half a mile from the Porta Sant'Anna, the main gate into the town. Lucia, the manager, is delightful and very helpful. Our room overlooked the quiet side street and was very spacious. The bathroom was very modern and well fitted. There is a communal kitchen for preparing your own food and an eating area on the ground, but breakfast is not served here. Guests are given vouchers for use at the patisserie next door. The pastries, croissants, and coffee are excellent. There is reserved parking for guests. The bus stop for the Pisa bus is at the end of the street.

I would HIGHLY recommend this absolutely wonderful decades owned FAMILY hotel. Everything was kept impeccably clean and tidy both inside and out. The owners are on site to tend to your special requests even offering to open the restaurant 30 minutes early for us the morning we were leaving!! One evening we had missed dinner as we were out travelling around. The antipasto delights that were prepared for us were plentiful, delicious, a wide variety to satisfy 12 very hungry guests.(Served outside on the patio under the stars) Where would you get this type of ONE OF A KIND SERVICE?? PARAMOUNT customer service at it's FINEST!! The staff ALWAYS with a warm smile. Breakfast and dinner were included in the price. In my opinion the food was AMAZING. ...buffet breakfast...dinner included an antipasto bar, 1st course, 2nd course and dessert. All large portions!! The location is great for shopping beach cafes. It is apparent that the owners want to make their home, your "home away from home" for as long as you stay. I loved this hotel and all it had to offer and truly hope to return one day. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DID TO MAKE MY FIRST TRIP TO ITALY THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME xo

Just back from 7 night stay at Villa Romantica. The new owner Max and his wife were great hosts. The room was spacious and very clean. The decor is dated but I’m sure that over the next year it will be updated. Location is great for accessing the walled city and the free bikes are a bonus. After a busy morning it was a bonus having a lovely space to relax and enjoy the sunshine. Lucca is a fabulous place to visit especially during the music festival. Would love to return🇮🇪💕

What a beautiful family run residence. Only stayed one night & wish it had been longer. 2 ground floor rooms side by side & a further outer door to give us extra privacy. Arrived while reception was closed (1pm-3pm)(we didn’t read the information). However, not a problem. Housekeeping staff member very kindly let us in to our rooms - we were expected & welcome. Later we met Patricia & JanLucca, who were utterly charming, helpful & welcoming. This is a beautifully decorated, comfortable, charming and convenient to “old town” Lucca. We will be back and will be recommending to any future visitors to Lucca or surrounding area.

You can't think of a better spot to explore Lucca yet stay outside of the city walls. This place is just across from the Northern gate to the old city. It's in an old apartment building with high ceilings yet beautifully renovated and modernized. Michele, the manager, was extremely helpful adding a personal touch to our stay. If you are lucky you can get a parking spot right at the building door which is free for 24 hours.

The suites, living room and room are large in size, with a total of 2 large beds, which are very comfortable to sleep. The facilities are slightly old, but the sanitation is very good. A little distance from the city, there is a large supermarket within 15 minutes of walking.

Just got back from this beautiful B&B yesterday and all previous reviews are completely justified. One miniscule critique is simply that you would benefit more by having a car as Lucca city 'The Wall' is over an hours walk away. However we simply walked for 1min to the bus stop and paid 1.50euro for a ticket to Lucca and you are on the bus for 10-15mins. Be aware that the busses and trains in and out of Lucca stop operating after 9pm so the only other options are taxis and no matter where you are in Lucca they will call a taxi for you or there are taxi points where you simply pick up the phone and a taxi comes along. From Lucca to the B&B its roughly 20.00euros. The host Helena simply cannot do enough for you. She collected myself and my 2 daughters from Lucca Bus Station and from there on in we felt more like family than guests. That evening we wanted to head to Lucca to meet up with friends and Helena was in the middle of their family meal when i interupted her to ask her to call us a taxi. They insisted we join them for dinner and immediately handed us glasses of red wine. The following morning Helena gave us free bus tickets to use so we could get to Lucca. The room we had was spacious clean and had fantastic a/c as it was sooooo hot there. The breakfast was so fullfilling i often didnt need to eat again til later in the afternoon. As mentioned before the omlettes are delicious. There was one occassion when we got on the wrong bus to return from Lucca and the bus drove and drove and returned us to Lucca bus staion which was quite frustrating. My eldest daughter texted Helena and told her what happened and she simply came and collected us. For future reference if anyone does use the bus when returning from Lucca you must get on the Lam Blu bus heading for Nave. I would absolutely recommend this B&B to everyone.
