0.17km from MenteiIn the Summer of 1874, there was a young Italian Pietro Miorele who came to Niigata with a French circus group upon the opening of the port. Miorele was badly injured in an accident and was left behind by the group, but he got hired by a local Niigata circus group after he recovered. The prefectural governor at the time Kusumoto Masataka was impressed with his story and provided some funds for Miorele to open a beef hotpot restaurant. The shop became prosperous, and Miorele was also called "Miola" by the locals. He was a popular person, later got married and living a happy life. However, the restaurant was destroyed in the big fire of 1880, and Miola wanted to return to Italy as a result. With the encouragement of the neighbours, at the present place of Nishibori, he built the first full-fledged Western restaurant in Japan then. The taste of an elegant Western cuisine in a Western-style building called "Italian restaurant" was such a great idea that it was praised as "Rokkenikon of Niigata" and became a vastly popular restaurant. Miola continued to contribute as a centre of new food culture to Niigata and returned home to a united Italy after more than 30 years in Japan. He died in his home city Turin on November 1920. There were various constructions and re-developments carried out throughout the years, and by 1976 the hotel started operations. After more than 100 years, the restaurant and the hotel continue to live "the taste of an Italian restaurant" as created by Miola. After parking in the underground car park (the ¥1500 parking fee had been waived for hotel guests) and a simple registration we checked in to Room 910, a Twin Deluxe Room of 34 sq. metres, with a 2-seat sofa and coffee table. The room is spacious and clean, maybe a bit dated but still offering good comfort and convenience. We didn’t choose to eat dinner in the hotel but had breakfast at the Marco Polo Restaurant. It was a buffet breakfast with typical Japanese and Western food. A special thing was that there were hand-rolls made by the chef on order, with a choice of three ingredients. The package rate (room plus breakfast for two) was ¥25,000. But I didn’t need to pay because I used my Relux points to redeem it.

0.35km from MenteiWe've stayed here every visit to Niigata City for past 10 years and the experience is always outstanding. The rooms are always clean, well maintained, and consistent. The location is convenient to the Honcho and Furumachi areas of town. Staff is always helpful and friendly. Breakfast is great too with local foods. Super great value as well. Highly recommend this hotel.
0.36km from MenteiSpacious rooms with LCD TVs and free in house movies make us a popular place to stay. Located in the downtown, our hotel is convenient both for business and leisure. It's just a 5 minute walk to the Furumachi area. Tempur pillows are used in the room, and there is a convenience store on the 1st floor.
0.37km from MenteiI've stayed in Japan a few times and this hotel stands out as very competitively priced. It's not close to the train station but it's close to a touristy shopping street and has plenty of restaurants around. Unfortunately it also has one of the smallest rooms. Struggle to open up a suitcase to unpack and pack.
0.45km from MenteiIn order to see Niigata's room in Nagaoka's Flower Fire Conference, it is already 11 o'clock in Niigata. The landlord is a very cute grandfather. It is very friendly. It is still waiting for more than 11 o'clock. The room is clean and more than expected. It’s too much, very clean, it’s worth recommending, I have to go to Niigata next time and still live here.

0.68km from MenteiAlthough it takes a few stations to Nagaoka, not the venue of the fireworks, it is convenient for us to catch up with the train from Nagaoka. There are several thousands of people going to Nagaoka for the fireworks but most of them coming from the Japan east and they go back their home on the same day, so there are a lot of people at the station when the show is over. Luckily we stay at Niigata and we can go back to hotel before 11:30pm. The hotel is grand huge. Although it is not fashioned, it is being renovated. In the room, the wall papers, toilet and carpet are new. Specially the restaurant is very nice and price is reasonable. The city view is very peaceful. Through the window, you can see the river and beautiful sky. Having breakfast in this hotel is a must!

0.69km from MenteiI wheeled up on my bicycle and two staff members quickly took my panniers and showed me the best place to park the bike. They were great, you might have thought that I rolled up in a Bentley! It was obvious right away that this hotel differentiates itself on service. After a very warm welcome at check- in, I went to Room 1104 and was pleased to find that it was very large for Japan. Okura hotels are an old, well- established brand at the high end. This one, accordingly, sported bird’s eye maple furniture with lots of surface area and lots of drawers. The closet was huge. The bathroom comprised three separate rooms for the main sink, the tub / shower and the toilet. The toilet room and the tub / shower room also had sinks, that makes three in all. The styling in the bathroom is a bit dated, but it’s in good condition, spotlessly clean and everything functions well. The minibar was stocked, which is becoming a rarity these days. The bedding was very comfortable, and included a memory foam pillow, a big plus in my book. Breakfast was excellent. There was a wide variety, and the food quality was very good. The restaurant area got the morning sun and overlooked the Shinano River and Bandai, across the river. Room 1124 looks east, across the Shinano river to the Bandai section of town. It’s 1.25km to the train station, very walkable in most weather. There are some good restaurants on the Okura side of the river, but most are nearer the station. Rooms across the hall (west- facing) would see the Nihonkai if they are high enough. The best river walk is on the Okura side and it goes a full 10km without interruption. There are cherry trees the whole way, and a number of public rest rooms, too. It’s a beautiful walk. I was so impressed with the Hotel Okura staff and the service. It’s the fourth hotel I’ve stayed at in Niigata and gets my top rating.
1.17km from Mentei5-started hotel to me with very very stunning view with city, river and ocean. The hotel offers shuttle bus services like every 1 hour, which is accessible to the JR station in 15 minutes. The hotel room was clean and fully equipped, making me a very relaxing night to rest there. Will recommend to others who enjoy good location like this. All staff are friendly and can communicate in English without problem, thanks indeed.

1.31km from MenteiThe traffic is very convenient, just next to Niigata Station. The hotel reception hall is on the 4th floor. I asked the security guard to find it. On the day I arrived, I just caught up with the Chinese at the front desk. The attitude was very warm and thoughtful, and told me how to sit down. Airport bus. There are many shops and restaurants nearby, and the indoor facilities are complete. They are usually found in Japanese hotels and quiet at night.
1.33km from MenteiThe hotel is fairly average, with one unfortunate exception, which I'll share in a moment. Arrived by car for a quick weekend trip. I'd arranged the trip fairly last minute so my first choice hotel was booked out; I went with the ANA Crowne Plaza as it was reasonably priced. Arrival was a bit rough. There were no hotel staff at the portico to assist with luggage or direct to temporary parking. Cars were everywhere, disorganized, and the drive up area was not well lit. Suddenly, a guy in a suit appeared and asked for keys to my (new) car. Given that the area was poorly lit and the guy had just walked up, it wasn't actually clear he was a hotel employee. I asked questions about the hotel, which he couldn't answer. He went inside (maybe to ask another employee about the hotel), returned and asked again for my keys. In the end, he turned out to be a hotel employee, but he didn't clearly identify himself and didn't offer a receipt or anything in exchange for the keys to my (brand new) car. So it wasn't a great experience and if you're arriving by car or will use the car park or portico area, you really want to rethink your choice. Other than that, the room was small and fairly spartan but comfortable. The property is old but some areas have been refreshed. The amenities were better than what I'd normally expect in the price category. Management needs to do more training on communication, organization and customer handling. Plus more lighting is needed on the grounds--if I were smaller / weaker or vulnerable, I wouldn't want to walk the grounds alone after dark. With these improvements, it would be worth considering but you can easily do better in terms of location and quality. I hope this helps!
Hotels Near Mentei In Niigata Review
I haven't added any photos as this hotel's room layout is pretty generic for most three-star hotels. The location is very convenient, with very quick access to the Niigata JR Station. Amenities are good as well, with a laundry area on the 7th and 11th floors. However, there is only one washing and one dryer machine each on these floors. Vending (beer, coffee, tea, ice cream, etc) and ice machines are also available on these floors, as well as a couple other floors. There's also a microwave on the floors with vending machines. A 7-11 is located below the hotel, a Yodobshi Camera next door, and many eateries around the immediate area. Attractions like the Imayo Tsukasa Sake Brewery and the Ponshukan are within walking distance. The staff are friendly and professional, but there is a dearth of English (or other language brouchures). In general, Niigata seems to have quite the language barrier with foreign guests who have limited understanding of the Japanese language. Although menus may depict what is being served, please note that for those with dietary restrictions/allergies to be cautious. Note: don't choose the hotel if there are no other options left other than the 'smoking' rooms, and you want a cheap deal. Evwen with the provided deodorizer, your clothes and gear will end up smelling like an ashtray.
I thought it was a double bed. The result was a big bed. The room was small but the tables and chairs were all in place. The overall toilet was relatively small, and it was still a high step. It was not convenient for fat people and the elderly. The location is excellent and quiet. It is 5 minutes from the station. From the Wandaikou, there is a road with the statue of the Seven Fortunes on the opposite side of the left-hand bus terminal. But it is best to take a mouth to the left (west) and then turn north, and you will see the hotel directly. Walking to Wandaiqiao and other attractions is not far away ~ buffet breakfast is very good! Do not re-sample every day ~ the front desk service attitude is also very good, go out to the front door to the door key.
The parking lot is also convenient in front of you
