Ipoh
|4.41km from city centerPaloh was a malay & orang asli (“native”) kampung (“village”) that has been around from at least the 18th century. Apparently the names comes from the founder of the village itself Toh Paloh. Paloh, or palung, also means a depression in the ground that holds water, or a fishing hole to catch fish. It is believed that Paloh was also a boat dock in the past. Some other views hold that the Hakka were the founders of Paloh, and only later came the Cantonese. According to this theory, the origin of the name is a symbolic reference to the dams that were constructed along the Kinta River for fishing purposes. These dams were referred to as “Pa-Lo” in the Cantonese dialect and eventually the area became known as Paloh. Paloh today has of course become the heart of the city of Ipoh. In this old part of the city pre-war Shop Houses line the streets, with a predominantly Chinese character. “Sarang” is a malay word meaning nest, hence “Sarang Paloh” means “The Nest in Paloh”, evoking the image of the hotel as a place of rest for the weary traveller. Located on Jalan Sultan Iskandar (formerly Hugh Low Street), Sarang Paloh is located in pre-war two storey shop houses that originally were the premises of a Goldsmith and a Bank more than 90 years ago. The façade of one of the buildings still has the name of the Goldsmiths on its façade in English, Chinese and Malay (jawi script), with the stately bank building still has the name of Overseas-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited on its front. Across the road, Sarang Paloh has another shophouse of which the ground floor has been converted into a carpark. If you have a car, this is where you would park. Parking is complimentary, but you must exercise caution, turning right into the shophouse entrance as Jalan Sultan Iskandar is a pretty high traffic road, and the building inside is quite narrow, with the cars having to be parked bumper to bumper, in two rows. Exit is out through the back of the shophouse into a back lane. Do bear in mind that if the shophouse is full of cars, you may get boxed in by other parked cars and not able to exit! Fortunately this did not happen to us while we stayed here. Getting to the hotel means having to cross the busy road again on foot, with your luggage, from the car to the hotel. The main reception area was in the former Goldsmith’s building, and the entire front of the shop house is dedicated to the reception. To get in the front door, you will need your access card, or the staff inside will have to let you in, if you have yet to check in. The central part of shop house is a courtyard with a spiral staircase going upstairs to the 2nd floor, and in the back is a sort of pantry area with dining table. Staircase at the back also leads upwards. We had booked a room at the back of the shophouse on the 2nd floor, as we were aware of reviews that rooms in front may have some street noise. The rooms are all named after birds, in line with the hotel itself being a “nest”. Our room wa

|5.16km from city centerWe paid 250 RM a Night for a room without a Window far away from the City centre. No Shops around to Buy water or a snack, only Workshops and garages for Miles, Next to residential Zones. The „retreat“ Faces a Wild Garbage disposal and Some wrecked Cars. Restaurants nearby close After lunch. No points of touristic interest nearby but many mosquitos around. Not Even a television in the room as advertised. The „nice Design“ consists of nothing But painted Concrete Walls. The room is Hot, tropical climate. The housekeeper is nice but doesn‘t speak English or knows the area at all. The Management was Not helpful and only Tries to lure tourists inside. Don‘t stay here, this is not worth your while or your Money and nothing But a total top-off.

|7.69km from city centerThe room was spacious and tidy, and the mattress and quilt were clean and comfortable. Although we didn't meet each other during the whole process, the landlord's service was attentive and attentive. The only drawback is that the quality of the bath towels is so poor that they don’t absorb water at all.

|4.34km from city centerWhy glorify these dark alleys which look like the neighborhood where Jack the Ripper lurk for his next victim? The ”hotel” is supposed to be ”designer hotel”. It's a prison. Period. Full of hazardous corners and dangerous pits. Pool was so heavily chlorinated that the water stung. Door handle came off, stupid latch on the outside of the room, multiple key card systems that could potentially kill if a fire breaks. I almost got stuck in the common bathroom because the latch refused to budge when I wanted to get out. Sink at the common area was greasy. The reception was almost impossible to find. Do not take your elderly family members or small children to this hotel. I booked it coz I had no choice at such a short notice. Not worth the money either. Seriously, MPI should re-inspect that place and take back the accommodation license. Look at the ”barrier” from the rooftop pool to the ground below. No banister. It's lower than my knee if I stand next to it. One wrong move, you'd plummet down. Steps made out of metal grating. No safety yellow stickers to differentiate the levels. Totally NOT safe! Never again!

|3.04km from city centerIf you’re looking for a cozy place, a quiet environment, a nice lady with a happy smile who will welcome you to this tiny guesthouse, a clean and comfortable room, with the door that you have to remember to lock with a real key like in the old days, if you want to sleep surrounded by silence and be awakened by the chirping of birds, well, this is the place for you. The name itself and the interior decoration want to give a perception of old English cottage, although with a bit too many modern reproductions of old furniture. But it’s cute – and unusual. You can park the car inside – on a first come first serve basis. I was lucky to get the room at the first floor with the larger balcony. The bed is extremely comfortable, and the night silence helps having a perfect sleeping experience. They do not serve breakfast in the morning, but this is not a big issue for me. You can find places for that within a few minutes’ drive from here. That was my first experience there, just for one night. I will probably choose it again on my next trip to Ipoh.

|3.65km from city centerPerfectly located homestay in the middle of Ipoh.
Apartment is located on 20th floor for my stay. View towards the south, very nice.
It has 2 bedrooms, both with connecting toilets. Living room and open kitchen is in a large space. Large enough for another queen bed that is placed beside the living room windows.
Do whatsapp the provided homestay number for instructions on an easy self check-in. Can also ask for early check-in if required.
Clean bath towels, hair dryer, hand/body soap and wifi provided.

|4.26km from city centerTo the room: We have changed the hotel on the day of arrival and have not even sleeped there, the “match” is stone hard, the bed is very small for two people, the mosquito network is still too small to close it, You heard from the neighboring room every single noise and word, there were cages in the bathroom. For booking: The booking via the hotel website did not work because the payment could not be completed. We sent a mail and then had to transfer the amount in advance, with a transaction from a Swiss to a Malaysia account of course taking a few days. (Of course, it was our mistake to enter us at all.) Although the amount was entered in our account and the transaction was completed, the hotel has claimed until the end, The payment was not received from them and we had to pay cash again on the site. The transfer was to return them as soon as it arrived on the account. The contact on the site at the very sporadically occupied reception was through a young employee who spoke poorly English, the mail traffic with the manager, etc. But then the answer to mails was only sporadically. The money has not been transferred back to us so far.

|4.08km from city centerI had one night stay with 2 family members of mine. The car park is narrow and limited, you need to be careful to park your car. Check in was rather easy and fast, no deposit was asked. Hotel is equipped with many facilities like gym, swimming pool, KTV and even a cinema. The family room I booked is spacious, you will get enough space to put 3 persons luggages. The bathroom satisfies me the most, there is a bathtub and a standing shower room equipped with 2 in 1 heater, and the water pressure is adjustable yet strong enough. However, the room Aircon swinging function is broken, it just blows in a fixed direction and may not be cooling the farer bed. Also, one side of the sofa chair was wet during my visit :(
Overall my stay is fine without much inconvenience.

|7.78km from city center Before check-in, you need to contact us to find out where to get the key. The other person speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay. There is absolutely no problem in communication and the service is very good. The door where the key is taken is locked, so you cannot come out from the entrance. Someone must be outside to open the door. So don't close the door when grabbing the key. The three-bedroom apartment has a hygienic and comfortable environment. There are two swimming pools downstairs, an adult pool and a children's pool. There is also a large playground. The blowing vents of the air conditioner are facing each other, so the clothes on the terrace will dry quickly. Although it is a remote area, there are many delicious food nearby. The most recommended thing is that there are many restaurants on the opposite side, turn right, among which there is a buffet-like restaurant with self-selected meals on the side of the main road, and there is also a small stall with Guiling paste which is delicious and very cheap. Turn left on the main road and there is a bakery with delicious donuts.
