We were a bit hesitant ourselves about this ryokan - we've been spoiled in staying at some of the very top ryokans throughout the country, and while Amane Resort Gahama is highly rated and understood this property to be kid-friendly, we weren't sure if it would meet our own high bar. Thankfully, our concerns were completely unfounded. It deftly balances the needs for discerning adults while at the same time doing a wonderful job catering to the needs of young families. This was part of a multi-generation trip, with four families (two of them with two young children each) and four total rooms as part of our booking. While Amane Resort Gahama (and its sister property, Amane Resort Seikai) is located along a bustling street in a nondescript area of Beppu (and next to KFC as well as Nitori, a large home furniture store), once we stepped inside we were ushered into a different world. Namely, the panoramic view of the ocean gave the ryokan an air of tranquility. We booked four rooms - all in the tower (there are separate Villas on site, but we wanted the view.) All of the rooms were Japanese-Western style with a generous 90 square meters of space. Two of the rooms were on the third floor, one was on the fifth floor, and one was a ”special room” on the top floor (10F.) Of the four, I'd say that the fifth floor room was my preference, in that it allowed unobstructed views (the Villa rooftops were visible when peering out of the balcony of the 3F rooms) that were not too far off from the 10F room, and it had a bedroom that was separate from the living room, whereas the 10F special room was an open, junior suite style. Somehow, it also seemed that the top floor room was a bit tighter in space, despite the specifications. All rooms offered both indoor and outdoor Onsen (hot springs) baths, and that's what we were after. Of course, the children wanted to enjoy the larger communal baths. Unfortunately, it's located in Seikai, meaning you'd either have to walk outdoors for 5 minutes (through the Nitori parking lot) or take a complimentary shuttle - a bit of a hassle, yes, although we wound up bouncing between both properties for some of our meals (more on that later.) Gahama catered nicely to families with young children. They offered child-sized slippers as well as Yukata and Samue robes that were small enough to even fit a 2-year old. Our meals (for 11 total people) on both nights were served in a private room. And they offered very nice children's meals for both breakfast and dinner - they loved all of the food offerings at this property. At the same time, this ryokan would be equally suitable for adult couples... service is polished and attentive, while both the kaiseki dinner meal and French dinner course (the latter is at Amane Resort Seikai) were sophisticated and beautifully presented. And that's one of the benefits of either of the Amane ryokans - the multiple dining options allowed us to enjoy a diversity of top-notch servings. In the morning, w

Located a little off the hot spring town of Beppu, the location is the best in the ocean view. It was good in everything from entrance to service, rooms and cooking. It is the only difficulty that there is only one small elevator to go up from the entrance to the front desk on the second floor, and when the check-in is crowded, the waiting time comes out. The room, hot spring, cooking and staff are also full. The infinity bar in the sister hotel next door was the best. If you stay in Beppu, I want to recommend this without complaint.

During our trip, we had a desire for a wild experience like camping, but we also wanted a touch of comfort. After some research, we came across a newly opened resort called Grand Verde Resort, inaugurated in July 2022. The accommodations resembled individual rooms or houses resembling a camp setup, but with the added convenience of a private bathroom. One of the highlights was the opportunity to enjoy a BBQ dinner right next to our room, followed by a bonfire service in the evening. The resort also provided a public bath and sauna room with picturesque views of the beautiful grassland surroundings. Additionally, there was a small farm where guests could feed the sheep, adding to the overall charm of the environment.

We first went to Jinlin Lake Street, and then drove to the campsite for about 25 minutes. Although the weather was freezing, it was not too hard, and there was no snow. After arriving, we camped in the reception. The staff was very friendly. The package we ordered included dinner and breakfast. In fact, it was basically enough for two people. All the drinks in the refrigerator were free. For dinner, there was rice and curry sauce. The curry was delicious. The weather was quite cold at night, so in the end we chose not to ask the staff to help us make the bonfire. We went out to the camp at night and looked at the many stars in the sky. We also saw the sunrise in the morning. This place is worth a visit!

It was so friendly and the food was delicious! The facilities were so good and the view was amazing. However, since room service is not available, it is better to prepare snacks in advance when entering the hotel. To go to the convenience store, you need to drive for about 5 minutes. The taxi called immediately when asked by the counter, so there was no inconvenience in moving. I want to use this hotel again when I go to Beppu area

Very pleasant hot spring hotel, very satisfied in all aspects, suitable for couples, is the location on the mountain, self-driving tour is more convenient.

I stayed for one night when I visited Oita friends. It was a lodging for a night stay, and the atmosphere was nice. There is a small living room on the first floor, a space like a rest place, and a bath is a rock bath in the inner bath and an open-air bath? The open-air bath is changed, and the dome type and the ceiling is lit up by the starry sky. However, if it is not electric, it is dark inside. After that, it is bright during the day, so I thought that there is not much effect of lit up. The rock bath was a bit bass, so I can't feel the effect of sweating. Also, the bath is large, so once it is cold, it takes time to warm the hot water easily. The second floor is a bed in the living room. I was able to slow down on the sofa or the bed in tatami mats. The futon and pillow were comfortable. I went out for a night stay, but I walked to a nearby baked meat shop, which was excellent. The staff was good. But I wonder if there is a repeat.

I went to Oita by boat. Stayed at Shinan near Beppu Tower, and I didn't meet anyone, and I directed a private space. When I came back by car on a rainy day, the hotel staff brought me an umbrella with a dash. Judging the return of the guests with the sound of the engine, the skill of the master was good ① Not passing anyone in a private space ② The room is extremely large ③ It is said to be like a love hotel, I'm particular about detail and great improvements ① There are knacks to open and close the keys ② From the front desk to the room, it's hard to carry luggage with gravel ③ There is only a hot spring at high temperature. To store It's gonna take a while.

Overall, I felt the hotel was very nicely done with great local touches while still keeping an international atmosphere. I also wanted to point out the great flexibility of the hotel, allowing me to change my meal reservations from 3 dinners at Elements (I was on a package deal) to one at Elements and combining the remaining two meals at Elements to a dinner at Atelier. This allowed me to not have to dine at the same restaurant as well as opening up a slot for me to explore a local restaurant. However, there were two things that I'd like to point out that the hotel can improve upon. The first is the staffing at the club lounge (and in general) is not enough. There were many moments where I was left to wait, to the point where using standard facilities (like the check-in counter, or breakfast at Elements) would have been a more positive experience. Breakfast on 12/21 was where the understaffing really showed, where it took over an hour to complete breakfast; many guests left in the middle of their meal since service was horribly slow. However, the second point us what I would really want the hotel to work on - CoVID countermeasures. Largely, two things I'd like to point out. (1) Temperature screening us inconsistent. I was checked when I first arrived, but never anytime afterwards (or should I say, the thermometer station was unmanned). (2) During my meal at Atelier, my wife and I noticed that the staff (He was Italian, I think his name is Marco?) preparing the dishes (in the open kitchen) prepping a sauce, tasting it with the same spoon which was quickly rinsed it under the faucet and returned into the mixing bowl. I pointed this out to one of the servers (Japanese male, responsible for serving and explaining the dishes). This is where I felt the hotel can improve on - in detail, three things. (i) The Japanese server proceeded to quietly scold the staff in front of me, I felt that was not a great experience both for myself and the staff. (ii) Nothing was cleared. After the scolding (and then the staff responding back that he did not put the spoon back in) none of the utensils were changed and no follow up. I guess there is no trust in what a customer points out. And finally (iii) I felt that this is at the fault of the hotel for not putting in proper operation guidelines.A person putting together a meal will need to taste it, to make sure it's good. If the hotel were to put in operational guidelines to ensure tasting can be done while still making it very obvious that it is hygienic, I would not have to be writing this email. Needless to say, our dinner experience was ruined that night. I actually shared the above comment with IHG Guest Relations (on 25 Dec), which the agent was extremely prompt on getting back to me and assured that I would get a response back from the hotel about it within 48 hours. Unfortunately, the hotel never contacted me. I then asked guest relations again (on 5 Jan) to follow up with th

We had an excellent experience at the Intercontinental Beppu. The service was top-notch, particularly from Umehara-san, Choi-san, Huang-san, and Ahn-san. The staff at the Front Desk, Bell Desk, and the F&B team at Elements and Patisserie Boulangerie were all impressive. The back house F&B team did a fantastic job with the delicious pastries and breakfast. The hardware was modern and in excellent condition, thanks to the great work of the engineering and housekeeping teams. The hotel's location may not be central in Beppu, but it offers stunning views of the ocean, city, and mountain. Additionally, the onsen facilities at the hotel were the best we’ve encountered at any hotel and are generously open all day except during midnight to 0500. The hotel also offers a complimentary shuttle hourly to and from Beppu Station between 1030-1700. All Diamond Ambassador benefits were offered including breakfast, one category upgrade, and late check out. However, we were disappointed with the steep prices for room upgrades. For example, upgrading from a King Classic View to a Club with Onsen Tub cost 50,000 JPY per night, or 30,000 JPY per night with club access excluded. These prices seemed uncompetitive for room categories that were below suites. If the prices had been more competitive, we would have easily upgraded our room to enhance our stay and provide additional revenue for the hotel on immediate term vacancies. Additionally, we were assigned a room in the middle of a group that arrived later in our stay, and an upgrade would have allowed that group to have directly adjacent rooms. Other than this issue, our stay at the hotel was fine. However, the high prices for room upgrades left a negative impression and detracted from our otherwise positive experience at the Intercontinental Beppu.

The teppanyaki dinner at Shenheen was delicious. Everything was perfect, especially the Japanese hands. The room was large and equipped with a bath, which was very comfortable. The hotel has a shuttle service to and from Beppu Station. After checking into the hotel, it is very convenient to visit popular attractions such as Umi Jigoku.

Shenheyuan is worth recommending 🤩. The room is very clean and spacious. There are two baths ♨️, one indoors and one on the terrace. With the beautiful view 🌄, it is a must-visit. Note: There is a mud bath specially designed for ladies on the second floor (free, 15:00-23:00), not to be missed! ! !

I spent my first two hours doing what I haven’t done for almost three years, driving along the snaking roads in Japan. Arriving at Amane Seikai you feel euphoric, the seafood kaiseiki wasn’t the best, but the sake was good, and I was still giddy from seeing the spacious (1776 sq feet) junior suite with its own ocean view pool, jacuzzi, open-air onsen bath. “Room” 230 is in the new wing (according to my booking.com description), the apartment/room is not especially stylish, except for one little bottle of water and some coffee/tea, the mini bar and fridge were empty, but it has a spectacular view and you’ll still get your ocean view from bed and feel the constant gravitational pull of your private open-air onsen. I got up at 6ish just to catch the first rays of sunlight and to listen to the sound of the waves. Last but not least, the staff that checked me in was really nice and spoke perfect English ( coz he is from Nebraska ☺️)

Really enjoyed this unique hotel that has a mix of art, onsen, great views and decent food. The room (419) was not luxurious but was well designed, the balcony overlooked the extraordinary landscape that is Beppu, the greatest feature was the semi open-air onsen bath facilitated by the floor to ceiling windows, connected to the generous deck space. It was fun to walk around the gallery space and admire the interesting architecture, color palettes, and exhibits championing Beppu culture, landscape, flora, fauna etc. Sitting in the Peak restaurant for dinner, I was amused that one of the waitstaff was a robot that ferried food and empty dishes back and forth. Dinner was laid-back, had a window side seat that allowed me to enjoy the city glitter below. My stay here was at a fraction of another Beppu hotel on this trip, in many ways I enjoyed this place more and would not hesitate to come back.

There are many articles like art, but the room is also functional. Whatever you say, the meal is more delicious than expected, and it is worth going to eat only meals. It was personally a pity that there was no public bath, but I'm glad if there is, but I can stop by and have a hot water. The TV is a little small for the size of the room, and it seems to be good even for a larger TV because the room is too large. It is personally a pity that toilet paper is normal. But it was a very good inn. I will visit again.

Stayed in couple of different onsen hotels in beppu area in the past several years and this, to me, is an average/below standard hotel. It is located at the side of a main road and you can hear when ambulances or police trucks are passing by at night. To make thing worse, our main door is crashed by something in the middle of the night, creating loud noise waking us up. We just are not sure if the door is crashed by a drunk man, the wind or something else. But this is enough for us to worry!! Is there somebody trying to break into the room? Is the hotel safe, really? Anyhow, don’t think we would be returning to this hotel again in the future. One point to add by the way, most of the private bath which guests can use are extremely small except the one which is outdoor and located on the left of the lobby entrance. If you want to try, try this one and it shall be enough.
- RilakkumaV25
We stayed in the first month of the distance. The distance was made of a high log style with a high ceiling and it was more western style than a Japanese inn. The room was quiet and relaxing slowly. But the unfortunate thing was the open-air bath with the room. When I tried to take a bath the next morning, the supply of hot water stopped and became water. When I checked in, I thought it was a little terrible because there was no guide to that. I wanted a guide to not put in the morning.

The navigation is difficult to find and the location is remote. It is easy to find the way if you check in too late. The space is large and suitable for families. It is a bit dusty. If you mind, please consider it. There is a supermarket next to it which is very convenient.
