The Modernist Athens

Kolonaki
A new hotel in the heart of Kolonaki, Athens' well-to-do district, the Modernist is a great blend of amenities and service. The hotel opened the week I visited and I expected there to be a few kinks to work out, but there were none! Service is wonderful, staff proactively asked what we needed, from carafes of sparkling water that they brought to the room on request any time of day, to laundry and other things. They also were very keen to know how they were doing, considering they were new. Breakfast is delightful, with a a creative mix of traditional Greek things and other international food. COVID setup is hygienic and efficient. We had a large room, which is not particularly large but has spectacular balconies overlooking the park across the street and with views of Lycabettus Hill. Windows are isolated and do a good job of keeping out the Athenian noise. Finally, the upstairs roof deck is a real delight, quiet, private, with a fantastic view of the Acropolis, and with a telephone to order drinks from downstairs. It's like being at the Hilton Bar across the street, but not paying 20 euros for cocktails. All told, a great start and a wonderful find, I wish the staff all the best of luck!

Was so happy to experience this facility in Greece. Wonderful people and excellent service. Will visit again if we get to go back to Greece. Our room was spacious and clean and daily service was available, a service that is so rare while traveling.

The breakfast was quite rich, the hotel staff was very nice and the room was clean and tidy. It is basically next to the US Embassy, and is also close to Megaron, 5-7 minutes on foot. The city centre of Constitution Square is 2.5 km away and is also acceptable. There are subway stations and bus stops nearby. The x95 has direct access to the airport. There are also supermarkets, restaurants and bars nearby, and life is convenient. The price is slightly higher.

We stayed for one night, on our way back from a week long trip. We chose this hotel because is conveniently located, a 5' walk from the Megaro Moussikis metro stop (Line 2), which took us to the Airport the next day at 5 am). It is not located close to the main attractions, but the Metro serves its purpose there. The hotel is a couple of blocks from the US Embassy and maybe a 10' walk from the Panathinaikos Stadium (on a Sunday, you can hear the crowd during a soccer game). The room was small, but clean, with two comfortable beds and good Wi-fi. The bathroom was also small and clean, with a compact shower. The staff was very friendly and prepare a breakfast box for us, since we left vey early in the morning. A big plus for the hotel.
Best Western Plus Embassy Hotel

Best Western Plus Embassy Hotel is mid-way between the metro stations of Ambelokipi and Megaro Moussikis, on metro line 3, connecting Athens International Airport to the city centre. Both metro stations can be reached in 7-8 minutes walking from the hotel. The four points I'm giving this hotel are an average between the three points for the room, and the five points for service: - my room was very good and big, with a comfortable bed and a good bathroom, but the room was quite dark and electric lights were needed also during the day. Air conditioning was efficient but noisy, and insulation from outside noise was not good. Luckily enough the hotel is located on a side street with little traffic, so noise from outside was a problem just on early morning, when the works started in the building opposite the hotel. Wi-fi was often very slow and sometimes not available. - Service was very good: staff were efficient and helpful, and breakfast was very good with several choices available.

The area around the hotel is relatively quiet. It's near the International Convention Center and the American Embassy and feels safer. A few minutes walk from the metro station there are supermarkets nearby and life is still very convenient. The room has a kitchen and the furnishings are a bit old, but the room is bigger. The front desk staff loved it and did their best to help. The breakfast was ok.
