Great
YYunduanderizi21A very traditional, elegant, ancient and solemn hotel, the overall feeling is very good!
The location is very convenient. After exiting the Waverley train station, you can reach the hotel in less than 5 minutes on foot. The entrance is very eye-catching. It's just a big uphill walk, and it will be a bit strenuous if you push a large piece of luggage. It only takes 20 minutes to walk from the hotel to the castle.
The hotel lobby is very traditional, and the characteristic bonfire hall seems to have entered Santa Claus's home. The lady at the front desk is very enthusiastic and introduced the various facilities in the room in detail. Because Scotland is still quite cold, I didn't feel it when I turned on the heating in the room to the maximum. In the morning, a traditional English breakfast on the first floor of the hotel is absolutely amazing. There is a western restaurant with candlelight dinner next to the hotel, where you can enjoy a sweet world for two! 😍😍
GGuest UserAmazing staff. Friendly people and always addressed me as sir even though I am really young. That was really professional of them. One of the persons was an elderly man and he addressed me as sir even though I am wayyyy younger than him. That was really nice and humble of him. Truly appreciate it.
Breakfast was amazing. Lots of food choices and tasty food. Location is brilliant. The room I had was overlooking princes street and the view was amazing. The room was also very clean and well maintained.
Perhaps the only thing that can be improved is ventilation in the bathroom as there was no extractor fan (or maybe I didn’t know how to use it xd) the air conditioning too kept turning off after every 45 mins which was slightly annoying but the hotel had provided me with a fan in my room so no major issues anyway.
Overall it was a great experience and would definitely recommend
DDoudougoudoudouAbsolutely perfect! The location is fantastic, right on the Royal Mile, and it's just a 10-minute walk to the train station, even with luggage. The room was very spacious, and the AC provided heating – it finally felt like the comfortable hotels I'm used to back home. Breakfast was decent, and while the lobby isn't huge, the comfortable room is what really matters.
AAnonymous UserI was quite satisfied with my stay. Although the hotel entrance is small, the room was surprisingly spacious. It even had some basic kitchen facilities, which was handy for simple cooking. My only minor gripe is that one of the room doors wouldn't stay open on its own and needed to be propped – hopefully, this can be improved. We booked a twin room, and it turned out to be two separate rooms, which was excellent for privacy and quiet sleep. It could actually accommodate four people. The only slight drawback was that parking required using a public car park located below the castle, about a 10-15 minute walk away.
AAlvinBA Great Stay with Excellent Amenities

Title: Clean, Comfortable, and Convenient
I had a wonderful stay at the Holiday Inn Edinburgh. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making the check-in process smooth and welcoming.
The room was exactly what I needed—spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The bed was a dream to sleep in after a long day of sightseeing, and I really appreciated the in-room amenities like the tea and coffee facilities. The bathroom was also spotless and well-maintained.
One of the major highlights for me was the hotel's location. It was perfect for my needs, being a short drive from the city center and conveniently close to local attractions like the Edinburgh Zoo. The availability of free on-site parking was a huge bonus and made traveling by car stress-free.
I also had a great experience using the hotel's facilities. The indoor pool and fitness center were both clean and well-equipped, providing a relaxing way to unwind. The breakfast offered a good variety of hot and cold options, and the quality of the food was excellent.
While my overall experience was fantastic, there was a minor issue with the Wi-Fi in the room, which was a bit slow at times. However, this was a small inconvenience and didn't significantly impact my stay.
All in all, the Holiday Inn Edinburgh is a fantastic choice for anyone visiting the city. Its combination of comfortable rooms, excellent amenities, and friendly staff makes it a great value for money. I would happily stay here again and would highly recommend it to friends and family.
HHanaThe people working in the hotel are very friendly and they try to help as much as they can.
Although the hotel have big room but their AC system is bad and you can’t open the windows. So if you are going in hot session that will be challenging. Also I stayed there for 4 night and they didn’t change the bedsheets at all and the bathroom and the room cleaning is so bad they didn’t even both to clean the sink.
GGuest UserAll very good, clean, quiet, good location, kitchen facilities are complete but the plates are small and there are no bowls. It is recommended to add some bowls for the convenience of Chinese people, and it would be better to have a rice cooker.
BBishnu BasyalI stayed at Safestay Edinburgh Cowgate from Sep 10–12, 2025. The location is excellent, right in the city center, and the staff were polite and helpful. For budget-friendly accommodation, it offers good value.
However, there are a few areas where the experience could be improved:
Beds: The bunk beds were quite loose and made a lot of noise with every movement, which disturbed sleep.
Lockers: It would be much more convenient if lockers had an integrated pin-lock system. Having to buy a separate lock just for a short stay felt unnecessary.
Noise at Night: Dorms can naturally be noisy, but there was excessive disturbance from snoring. On the second night, someone knocked on the door very loudly at 3 AM. Since all guests have electronic key cards, this should not have happened, and it was unsettling.
Bathrooms: Cleanliness could be better. One of the toilets wasn’t flushing properly, and overall maintenance was lacking.
Housekeeping: Fresh sheets were only provided after 6 PM on the second day, despite check-in being from 3 PM. This timing could be improved.
Amenities: Providing simple slippers for bathroom use would be a small but thoughtful addition.
Check-in/Check-out: Check-in at 3 PM feels quite late, while check-out at 11 AM feels early. A little flexibility would enhance the stay.
Breakfast: Breakfast was fine for a short visit, but for longer stays it becomes repetitive.
Overall, the hostel is a good choice for short, affordable stays in Edinburgh, with friendly staff and a great location. With a few improvements in facilities and guest comfort, it could easily deliver an even better experience.
