Dormy Inn Express Gotemba Hot Springs

Our room was a moderate twin room on 3/F (facing the podium car park which means no view). The room design was good - overall the room size was small (even in tokyo standard - not any bigger) bathroom was even smaller but still provides the essentials that you need. The hotel is more a business hotel which offers everything that you need (free yakult, ice bars, hot coffee, chocolate, ramen, comics corner, and more), hotspring and footbath. Everything you can name, just go and get them/ experience yourself. I appreciated the fact that the hotel has tried to put everything together in a compact space. There are 3 areas for free car parking, each of which is not big - the nearest car park 1 adjacent to the hotel is always full after 6pm. However, there is still no need to panic as another parking area 2 is just nearby (like 2 min walk). Breakfast was just okay - mostly Japanese with limited western choice. Last entry for breakfast is 9am which is very early, making the restaurant always packed during 8-9am. For the 3 nights spent there, our family of 3 had to sit on bar table for 2 days and queue outside to wait for a table (10 mins) on the last check-out day. The waiting was not a very pleasant experience afterall. During the Christmas holiday, the restaurant has also reached its max capacity and life would have been easier for staff and guests if they could extend the breakfast hours till later like other hotels at 10:30am. We will want to try other hotels in Gotemba next time.

Let me start off by saying I am not one to write reviews, as a self-proclaimed lazy person. This is probably the second or third time in my life I’ve had to collect the words to help anyone that may want to stay at this establishment. This is a “glamping” place, where supposed glamour and camping come to a pinnacle of outdoor luxury. By all accounts, it was neither glamorous, nor camping. To quickly summarize, if you’re expecting luxury do not stay here. I highly recommend Hoshinoya Fuji if you want real glamping in the Fuji area. Please continue reading for the specific accounts of my experience: • The first red flag was during check-in. As we walk up to our room, we see right in front of the outdoor deck is a 20-foot drop, and all I can say to describe it, is a cesspool with stagnant water, with water trickling into it. This, mind you, is the most expensive “suite” type room, running well over $1,000 USD a night. It’s downright deceitful, and when looking at their website, the picture of this room is taken at an angle that innocently cuts out this area and nowhere is it mentioned. The bathroom area is separated from the bedroom by the outdoor area, which means you need to go outside to go to the bathroom. The cleanliness of the room, furniture and amenities were very subpar. If someone found a hint of luxury, please let me know because I couldn’t find it. • The second is the lack of privacy, and most egregious, the attitude of the staff. Staff members come to your room without any notice and feel they can walk into the site freely. It was shocking. And when we tried to get one to come to our room when we actually needed them, the phone went unanswered. One staff walks into the middle of our BBQ dinner, opened up the grill without asking and says that we still have so much uneaten food and that our 2-hour time to BBQ was up. No one informed us that that a 2-hour BBQ time limit was a rule. He has the audacity to say that we were keeping him from going home! He then goes on to tell us that we aren’t allowed to continue eating and that the food must be thrown out. Some of the food was ordered shortly before he arrived. If we had known the time limit, we would have managed our time. This was unacceptable, so we decide to call the manager, but low and behold, that man was the MANAGER! • The third was the low-quality food. The tomahawk steaks looked cool, but the bite we had a chance to eat before being thrown away was not good. The next morning’s breakfast was something out of an economy class airline. Tasteless spam sandwich and children’s yogurt and apple juice box. Give me a break! In the end, we should have done some more research on this place. The parent company, FUJITA KANKO, runs business hotels, and obviously it is well over its head in this luxury glamping arena. It should stick to business hotels. And that “manager”, should go back to being a camp counselor.

The location is not good if you don't have a car. I had heavy bags and it took me about 40 minutes to reach the hotel. I took a taxi back to the station after check out which cost 1200 yen. It is in a bit of an isolated area. Closest convenience store was about 10-15 mins on foot. The hotel itself is nice, clean and new. Rooms a bit small but I had a spectacular view of Fuji from my window. The bed was new and very comfortable. Remember to take a taxi from the station if you have a lot of luggage.

Short walk to Gotemba outlet. We booked private onsen through the help of a friend as booking could only be done in Japanese when calling in prior to our trip. Room is considerably small and we didn't managed to see Mt fuji as it had been raining the whole day. Lucky enough, we chanced upon 10 mins fireworks specially for the outlet staff that night. Dinner in the restaurant was reasonably priced. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and will visit again.

Parking is very convenient Opposite is Aeon Maxvalue, Daiso Girls will have a lot of skin care products to pick up Double bed is small. The large bathing area is divided into male and female periods. Girls should be before 9.30 pm, boys are after 10 pm. The bathing area is very small and can only accommodate 5 to 6 people.

This time, when I went to stay, I felt very bad about the front staff who had short hair. We booked the wrong room So we asked what we should do next because we have both children and elderly people. He didn't try to help, couldn't speak English and communicated poorly. Plus secretly laughing like I'm a clown. We usually like to stay here. Even though the rooms look old, we feel close to the station. Next time we get married, we won't stay again. The breakfast room closes at 9:00 a.m. When we came down, there was no wait for us to eat, and they brought us food that looked like leftovers, as if there was a limited supply. He also acted displeased that we came at 8:00 a.m. On the last day, I met a younger person who was a good service person who looked after me to see what I wanted. There were only two old aunts who looked displeased every day when we went to eat breakfast. This time was the worst. There is a front staff who is a foreigner serving throughout the last year. We have always met them as lovely and always helping.

Advantages: The price is not expensive. You can clearly see Mount Fuji in the room. The station is downstairs, you can also park for free, and there are many izakayas around. Staff service attitude is great. Cons: The hotel is a bit old.
