First Group Magalies Park

Poor network connect. The Wi-Fi connection is bad, I thought when they said magalies park has uncapped Wi-Fi I'll be able to catch up with my work online and left my wifi router at home but the Wi-Fi didn't work all our stay, I was disappointed. Magalies park is nice though, nice and clean chalets, good service, good food at the restaurant. We enjoyed though I'm only disappointed in the poor Wi-Fi connection.

Beautiful resort and facilities but the chalet we stayed in should be revamped and maintained properly. We arrived on Tuesday to a flooded kitchen as it was raining. We called the reception from our phones as the phones in the units were not working due to an upgrade in progress. Housekeeping arrived to clean up and provide towels to put at the door then maintenance arrived to say they can also only provide towels to put at the door and could only advise their manager. There was a huge gap in the door that you could actually see out. Luckily it stopped raining for the rest of the stay. Reception also advised they were fully booked so could not move us. We then proceeded to unpack. The one bathroom’s basin’s tap was so loose that I was afraid to use it. The worst part was on one of the nights in our sleep a BAT!! fell on my husband’s head!! Please close the thatch by installing ceilings. Everyday we had to clean our beds before sleeping because of all the droppings. The other items were rather minor to mention e.g. state of the linen(torn and yellow) and kitchen cupboards creaky and loose, etc. please can you do some well deserved maintenance on your older units, Magaliespark? You have such a beautiful resort and facilities but we cannot stay there until this is done. Looking forward to visit again when this is done. I must mention the staff are helpful. Our housekeeper, Fikile was lovely. She kept our unit clean and cleaned the flooded kitchen when we arrived. I was also surprised with a beautiful towel display on the bed with petals. The service at the supermarket was amazing. Thobe, my spa therapist was amazing as well! Our captain on the boat cruise was so informative and really was the best boat cruise on the harties dam. To top my special day off, my birthday dinner at Pica Pau restaurant was the best! The owner together with Maki and Nyari, our waitresses for the night made it so special! Again, your resort facilities are lovely so please let us know when the chalets are revamped to complete the stay and we will be sure to book again as the kids really want to visit the splash zone and pools (both heated and not) again.

Property grounds are super clean and well looked after the rooms are super spacious and really would be ideal for international guests or families in large numbers .

This was a very good find. Staff is friendly, entire property was clean and tidy, and it is great for kids. Really enjoyed staying there and will definitely do it again.

A weekend at Magaliespark resort is just not enough. A beautiful well maintained resort. The staff from the gate to the cleaners was very friendly and welcoming...thank you. The chalets are very modern and clean. My only gripe is that you have to vacate the premises when booking out at 10 which I only found out a day before we had to book in nowhere on their web do they mention this only that you have to book out at 10 am.

This is a beautiful resort on entry. Lush gardens, a variety of buck grazing on the golf course, a lazy river, magnificent trees and green lawns. Our chalet was very comfortable and adequately furnished with very good bed linen and thick white towels. The chalets are sited in such a way as to provide as much privacy as possible and parking is at the back door for ease of unloading. An easy and seamless transition into holiday mode. The bathrooms however are very compact and some adroit maneuvering is required. The resort has a generator for outages so one escapes the daily reality of load shedding. Bliss. The patio is large and one can braai in the setting sun whilst listening to the myriad birds. Or so we hoped. In fact we didn't utilise the patio. Very loud music is played at the main entertainment area - the pool and restaurant - which mars the peace and strikes a very discordant note in the serenity one would expect from a country break. And this music is loud enough to permeate the resort no matter where one tries to escape it on a walk. And it thumps all day. Management need to seriously re-consider the necessity of providing this amusement. It is certainly a novel concept for a "peaceful" getaway! This resort deserves at least 4 stars. I have removed one for the unpleasant, if not unnecessary, intrusion into our break

Magalies Park has all the potential to be an excellent getaway destination… great location, lots of activities at very reasonable prices, beautiful gardens, a golf course and wildlife. That said, a good resort isn’t the sum of its facilities, it’s about service and an inclusive, considerate and welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately Magalies Park fell short for us on this front. We spent a few days poolside and remarked on every occasion how odd it is that a resort located in as diverse a country as South Africa, had a very narrow selection of Afrikaans, Rock and Eurocentric pop music on offer. We have never experienced this despite having stayed in countless resorts, hotels etc. Service from the wait staff was sluggish and they seemed reluctant to serve. I was particularly disappointed to learn that, despite the Christmas week being a peak week with virtually full occupancy, the golf course hosted a three day tournament which limited guests to braving the high temperatures and playing in afternoon slots. We returned to our unit after 1:45pm the one afternoon to find that our unit hadn’t been serviced. One would’ve expected the courtesy of notifying us that our cleaner was on leave that morning and therefore the cleaning of the unit would be delayed. We would have planned our day accordingly. We decided to check out two days early and left Magalies Park underwhelmed. While it’ll doubt appeal to some, Magalies Park seems to cater to a particular demographic, and it’s clearly not us.

IF A NEGATIVE SCORE COULD HAVE BEEN NOTED THEN THATS WHAT I WOULD GIVE! So we arrive for a weekend away at Magalies park that we looking forward to, we arrive only to be told that we (my company and I) cannot enter the facility together and that my other party needs to stay outside the premises whilst we chat at reception for reasons of overcrowding (clearly a complete misunderstanding) Naturally, I choose not to move at all whilst my wife goes to Reception and try sort out something so simple.. keep in mind the temp in nearing 35 degrees and we expected to leave our friends out with their 3 and 6 year old with me and my 5 and 7 year old in the blazing heat… we were treated like some sort of criminals in their mind and I was not having any of it! Needless to say, the drama gets sorted out and as we making our way inside - I get this rude GM, MUIS LOMBARD screaming at me and pointing his finger in my car.. I think I may have counted him throwing the “F” towards me 3/4 times in front on my children and friends, the Vulgar language was just unacceptable - I was gobsmacked that this was the resort manager talking to me with all these threats! Clearly, this is not his first rodeo! We eventually enter the facility and tried to make the best of a completely disastrous experience - I found MUIS in the Reception and reminded him of his behaviour and he insisted that I apologize (I think this person is living in denial) and is border-line dangerous! The reception management team actually made my wife to feel like they were doing us a favor. I DONT THINK IVE EVER HEARD OF SUCH A BAD EXPERIENCE!! The facility actually looks great with a lot of things to do.. Pica Pau service was great etc..but when you received in this manor without a single bit of customer service, it then becomes difficult to make fond memories. First resorts / Magalies park Senior management and Directors should be looking into this with a close eye! Luckily nothing serious happened - but let me tell you that i was convinced at a point that this was going to result in a physical altercation. Poorest…. Of the Poorest form! What a shame.

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Whenever we had a request they immediately addressed it. We had very cold days here and being ignorant of the underfloor heating facility, didn't use it. First thing in the morning when the cleaner came in she immediately switched all on, showed us how it works. This is an ideal place for families. It really caters for all ages and groups, from small toddlers, teenagers and those that want nice spa facilities. The game roaming around as well as the great golf fields just give that extra touch of tranquility. When our time came to leave we decided to extend for another week, but because of a public holiday as well as father's day the place was jam packed. Indicating our disappointment on not getting some more time, one of the office staff made an effort to make some space for us by moving the shorter stay customers and we had an extra week.
