We had a brilliant stay at Mar Hall. It was only 1nt but felt like a weekend! The best thing after the actual location, is definetely the staff. Being disabled, I had some issues which NICOLA (spa area) helped rectify immediately. We were SO grateful to her. She's an absolute diamond, and was so helpful & attentive. It turned what could've been a disaster into an enjoyable experience. Our bedroom was super. Really large & we appreciated having a little fridge inside our wardrobe. Esp since it was a hot weekend weather wise. Coming originally from Renfrew, we have family nearby and weren't sure if we'd eat in the hotel or not. So pleased we did. The market menu was lovely. Top notch food although we would have loved slightly more veg on our main courses. An issue we had was service was very slow, but i suspect they had some younger folks 'in training' on that night, and we weren't in any rush. We did have a stunning view of the sun setting, and are already booked again to take Dad for his Birthday. Breakfast was superb next morning. Lots to choose from. JESSICA in the restaurant was brilliant, noticing immediately that I was struggling to carry my plate whilst using crutches, and came to help without even being asked. Attentiveness like that is greatly appreciated, and again showed just how amazing the staff are. Much as this is a 5* hotel, it never felt pretentious at any time, like other 4* & 5* hotels we've been to. We feel this is because they have such wonderful & friendly staff, who genuinely seem to care if you have a good stay. I do hope the Management Team realise how fortunate they are to have such special employees, and because of them, we'll be back again soon.

As a gift our friends booked this overnight in Mar Hall in May and what a lovely surprise. On approach the venue is stunning, sitting on the banks of the Clyde and surrounded by lush scenery, rolling hills and a beautiful golf course. The building is steeped in years of history and on arrival you see some of the immediate grandeur and history in the entrance hall, main reception area and grand hall. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly and we were quickly checked in and allocated our room (17). The room is really nice, very old fashioned even dated, very bright, very high ceilings, dated bathroom and furnishings, massive TV and huge bed and wow the was one comfy bed. Everywhere was spotless clean including the room, hallways, stairwells and general public walkways. On arrival we asked if there was a TV in the main bar (football was on) however we were told there were no TV's in public areas - this would be a huge benefit moving forward. We walked the grounds later in the afternoon and they are stunning and very well maintained. We booked dinner in the main restaurant that evening, the staff once again were excellent, friendly and very attentive. I ordered king prawns and a chilli dip for starter which was lovely. For main I ordered the beef with fries and veg - the meat was cooked to perfection, tasted great and was very well presented. For desert I ordered the cheese board - the only disappointing part of the meal. One tiny wedge of brie like cheese, 2 crackers and 3 grapes. The cheese was tasteless and the dish lacked more varied cheese pieces, more crackers and was underwhelming. I mentioned this to the staff and the waitress agreed but said nothing else, opportunity for improvement here. After dinner we went to the main bar, service was good, drinks were nice however the place is so dark and gloomy that someone tripped as they could hardly see the floor. The room lacked some atmosphere as there was no TV or any background music, some brightness and background noise would help. The following morning we used the leisure facilities which have just been refurbished. The changing areas, pool, sauna, steam room, loungers and relaxation areas all lovely, fully refurbished, spotless clean and in full use. After using the leisure facilities we went for breakfast. The breakfast fare was plentiful, cereals, breads, yoghurts, drinks, full array of cooked items, full array of continental offerings and staff on hand if you wanted something cooked that was not on display or in a particular way - it was lovely and everything i had was good. Nice place, a little dated, great staff, stunning surrounding and I expect the refurbishment programme will move onto the next part of the building.

Booked for daughter birthday had mentioned needing a wheelchair accessible room no mention that recently refurbished spa was indeed not finished, went to use disabled changing room and it was full of rubbish and not finished, no mention of this when getting showed the facilities even though daughter was in wheelchair, the stress of trying to get changed as Husband is also disabled and I had to let him try and get changed himself, if I had known or been informed when booking that it wasn’t indeed finished I wouldn’t have booked. Very poor that the last place you would finish is the disabled facilities, so if you want to feel included if you are in a wheelchair or need additional assistance don’t come here till they actually finish the upgrade.

Expensive hotel so I expected very high standards. Service and staff was very good. But the hotel is tired with several marks on the walls and doors. This certainly takes away from the high expectations you would have at this hotel. Needs freshly decorated.

Just spent a lovely weekend at Mar Hall hotel for my 25th wedding anniversary . Myself and my wife were made to feel very welcome and appreciated a few personal touches that were made to mark our special anniversary. The whole team at Mar Hall are really friendly and helpful. Tom at reception in particular was very welcoming , he was also happy to answer our questions about the history of the building.

Absolutely loved this hotel! Everything made our stay very special from the moment we walked through the door, to the minute we left. With a lovely warm welcome from the staff, the relaxing immaculate swimming pool, saunas and steam rooms, the beautiful stunning setting, the scrumpcous dinner and breakfast, and not forgetting the draw dropping suite with super soft and cosy bed linen! Thank you to all the staff for making us feel so welcome, especially the concierge Alan. We will without a doubt be back soon.

Marion & Andy Tennant Laurencekirk. We have just Celebrated Golden Wedding at Mar Hall over the weekend 17th to 19th May with 70 of our friends and family with 40 of them staying at the hotel either for two nights or just the function night. we all had a fantastic time and would like to give a shout out to some of the people who helped make it special. the events team, Firstly Elaine and latterly Samantha for helping to organise the event, we need to mention Zac who helped our daughter Heather finalise our plans the night before and for setting up Morton House Ballroom and his team for looking after us throughout the night. Marion's social media has gone off the scale with guests contacting to say its one of if not the best function they had been to. We need also to pass our thanks to the Chef and his team, we had a set 3 course meal which had great reviews from everyone, which was also enhanced by the the serving staff who looked after the drinks reception as well as the meal service, we cant remember all the names but they know who they are. The weather over the weekend could not have been better showing off the grounds of the hotel best, the newly refurbished pool and Spa was opened just in time for our event and was enjoyed by a number of the family.

Afternoon tea was delicious, service was very good ,only criticism, would have preferred a table and comfortable chairs rather than a low table with squishy sofas to sit on. The sandwiches and cakes however were excellent , especially the scones , served with delicious cream and choice of jams. Very scenic venue and on a good day some lovely grounds to wander through.

Having stayed at the Mar Hall previously we recommended this hotel to our friends for a 4 Night break to meet up equidistant from home and we were not disappointed. From first impressions driving into the private grounds overlooking the River Clyde to being welcomed by Allan the Concierge and the Reception Team who checked us in quickly and made us feel at home to dining in the beautiful main dining room everything felt clean, comfortable and cared for. Large well appointed comfortable rooms (we had a deluxe double and our friends were upgraded to a Junior Suite with amazing views over the golf course to the River Clyde and the Hills beyond). We loved every minute of our our stay and our friends were "wowed" by the hotel, and its setting as well as the food and friendly staff. Being so close to Glasgow, the Clyde Valley as well as Loch Lomond and the Trossachs it was a fantastic base to explore the area knowing we would return for an enjoyable evening catching up over a lovely dinner and after dinner drinks served either in the bar or the great hall. Allan the Concierge, was exceptional, going above and beyond to help when I had a flat tyre and he ensured we were quickly back on the road again. We highly recommend the Mar Hall, its a wee hidden Gem with welcoming, friendly staff, offering a true scottish welcome. We will definitely be going back, and you cant get a better recommendation than that!!!
