Friendly service makes this five stars for me. From the moment Holly greeted me after an arduous 20 mile walk, the comfortable modern seafront room with an unrivalled view, much needed hot shower with good quality toiletries (carrying a rucksack so didn’t bring any), soft towels, and then to dinner - from Ellis’s taking my order, to Amy and Deri serving at my table, the helpful and efficient service really did make a difference. I had the halloumi fries to start, hunters chicken for main, and the dark chocolate delivered for pudding. Each was delicious and fresh and tasty. I don’t normally do dessert but it was so good to see anything dark chocolate on the menu so dove in. When served, the mousse mentioned on the menu wasn’t available so was replaced with a scrummy chocolate ice cream. Pure perfection. Not that the adjoining table would know. They overheard Amy explaining and then set about moaning and contriving a line should they be offered their delice without the mousse - I mean come on, get a grip people. It’s a £7 dessert, not a bespoke car! Listening to them opened my eyes to the negative reviewer experience - we visit TripAdvisor to read reviews, but the negative stick out and sometimes cloud our judgement. Now you might be one of those people for whom a replacement ice cream is a deal breaker but for me it’d never be as important as hospitality, service, friendliness (solo traveller, makes a difference) and a clean comfortable room. I’ve yet to have the breakfast but will be surprised if it’s poor; my expectations have been more than met and as long as you’re not the kind of person to have a mousse-less meltdown you’re sure to love it too
