The Black Swan Inn

We visited the Black Swan yesterday after the funeral of a very close friend, every thing was so nice , some of us stayed on for a while afterwards and had a meal. I was a chef for 51 years and i have to say that the lasagne i had was the best one i have ever eaten.

Stayed here for 6 nights in the hottest week in September 2023. Not the best experience, the shower was impossible to get into and, whilst I do carry a few pounds, I am by no means exceptionally large. Even my partner, who is a general size, had problems squeezing in. Room 8 - don’t take it. Sadly even though we had trouble complaining, except to the cleaner, did manage to see the manager of the hotel on the Friday who said he would mention it to the owner. Sadly they take the money upfront £600 - not acceptable. I have emailed the Inn about this but had no response. Also Menu limited.

Great environment, service and food. Had the filet steak which was thoroughly enjoyable. The atmosphere is relaxed and a great place for business meetings as well as for pleasure with a friendly attentive service. Will definitely recommend and come back.

We really struck lucky choosing this location for two day visit in our 1933 car as we were attending a National event in Holt. We arrived early evening and were impressed with our welcome and the fact that there was a great mix of people with those just finished work and young families out for an evening meal. We decided to have a few drinks sitting at the small table nearest the bar. After a freshen up in our room we came back for something to eat and we’re impressed when the bar manager said ‘I’ve reserved your regular table’! The food was very good and the full English breakfast all you could wish for. A lovely quiet village location and no issues leaving our unlockable car in the car park. I just wish it was closer to home

My partner and I just returned from a fantastic sunny weekend in Norwich. For a high quality, quintessentially British B&B within easy reach of the Broads and city centre you cannot do much better than the Black Swan Inn. The setting is idyllic, with lots of greenery and a quaint, English countryside feel. The patio is a fantastic spot to enjoy a couple of beers in the evening. We stayed two nights (Fri-Sun). Staff were extremely professional, courteous and efficient at all times and service in the bar and restaurant was very good. We had breakfast in the hotel in Sat and Sun morning. Coffee was excellent and I have to recommend the full English breakfast; we rarely have a full English but made an exception this weekend and it did not disappoint! Perfect portion sizes, great quality meat and cooked perfectly. We had dinner on Friday night and it was lovely. The duck bao buns were top notch. The room was very comfortable (the bed was particularly good) and the bathroom was well equipped; shower was powerful even on the eco setting. We had very warm weather so the staff did everything they could to keep the room cool, providing fans and opening our windows to let the cool evening air in before we retired for the evening. The inn was excellently located, near the Broads (10-15 min drive) where it is possible to hire day boats. This was the highlight of our trip and we cannot recommend it enough. The inn is a similar distance to the city centre. We returned from the city by taxi on Saturday night and it cost £16.70. If eating out, we highly recommend XO Kitchen.

Lovely food, rooms and service. The room we stayed in was cleaned to a very high standard. The water in the bathroom was nice and hot, the towels beautifully soft. The bed was so comfortable I had a great night sleep. I only heard one car pass by, other that that it was blissfully quiet. I would definitely go there again.

Stayed two nights. Nice quiet location. Modern clean room and pleasantly warm, and I could open a window! (other hotels please take note)! Lovely food in restaurant and friendly and helpful staff. So pleased I found this hotel.

I recently attended a wedding at the Black Swan. The staff were very helpful, friendly & efficient. The bar area, with views over the village green, had character, with beams & an open fire making it very welcoming & cosy. We started with drinks & very tasty canapés there, before moving to a private room where we had the most delicious meal. The Scallops, followed by the Beef Wellington were cooked to perfection - no mean feat considering there must have been 45-50 guests. We had a very nice double room with an ensuite, which looked out over the lane into a woodland full of beautiful snowdrops & daffodils.

Visited today for lunch with my partner and baby. Restaurant is well decorated. Waitress was very friendly and accommodating, great service overall, although didn’t need to hear the staff talking all about their nights out. Both ordered sharing boards -the pork and fish. These are £18 and £21, the most expensive things on the menu bar steak. What arrived was really disappointing. The portions were very small, two ribs, small ramekin of pulled pork and a bit of pork on its own, the pot of bbq sauce was larger. Pork ribs were dry and piece of pork was tasteless. Fries just generic frozen chips and coleslaw from a tub. Same with the fish platter. Cod cheeks over cooked, the rest I couldn’t distinguish between them, just again tasted like generic fish from the freezer, basic chips, basic coleslaw and tartare sauce. Certainly not worth £21. Overall very disappointing, we won’t be going back which is a shame when we’ve had lovely meals there in the past.
