We brachten recent een bezoek aan De Barrier voor het dessertbuffet van een trouwfeest. De locatie staat bekend om haar rijke verleden en had vroeger een reputatie van stijl en klasse. Helaas viel onze ervaring tegen, en dat begon bij een eenvoudige maar voor ons belangrijke vraag: of er ook rekening kon worden gehouden met lactose- en glutenvrije dieetwensen. Onze vraag werd niet alleen negatief beantwoord, maar zelfs met gelach onthaald. De ober, Geert, die zich profileerde als zaakvoerder, stelde dat “zijn jongens niet fatsoenlijk kunnen koken zonder room en boter” en ook glutenvrij bleek onmogelijk. Uiteindelijk werden we verwezen naar een kommetje bosfruit — dat eigenlijk bedoeld was als topping bij het ijs. Resultaat: voor ons geen dessertbuffet, terwijl dit nochtans een standaardverwachting is in een moderne feestsetting. Het was een pijnlijke en onnodige ervaring in een tijd waarin voedselintoleranties makkelijk opgevangen kunnen worden, zeker op dit niveau. Een gemiste kans op meerdere vlakken.

Empfang eine Katastrophe. Warten ohne Ende. Kein Interesse, obwohl im Vorfeld alles gebucht. Dann die Info wegen wenigen Gästen, dass es nicht ein Frühstücksbuffet geben soll, was aber klar im Buchungspreis inkludiert war. Lift defekt, alles hochtragen ins kalte Zimmer. Toilettenartikel minimalistisch! TV läuft nicht, deshalb auch kein Radioprogramm möglich. Die Abendessen-Platzreservation barg eine grosse Ueberraschung, eingeschränkte Auswahl, extrem hochpreisig. Auf jeden Fall viel zu überteuert! Für 2 Personen reichen 350€ nicht, wenn die Vorspeise schon je 45€ kostet. Es wird auf Gourmet ausgelegt, aber das Handwerk der Küche lässt zu wünschen übrig! Schlussendlich durchschnittliche Küche kein wirkliches Highlight. Die Bar ist nicht zugänglich, solange die Abendessen laufen (gleicher Raum). Viele Bankette, während diese laufen kann als Hotelgast kein Getränk geordert werden. Als Hotelgast ist man dann nicht interessant! Grundsätzlich eine grosse Enttäuschung!

De buitenspelen waren zo vuil dat ons kledij, voor we zelfs aan tafel gingen, reeds vuil was! We spraken een ober hierover aan en die antwoordde:: ik zal het komen afkloppen! Geen manier van doen voor zo'n zaak! Geen verontschuldigingen, niets! Voor de rest was alles ok!
