"I chose this place for my solo trip because hotels were too expensive. The location is absolutely fantastic, right on a main street, so I felt perfectly safe walking alone at night. Even though it's a capsule hotel, they provide towels, thin slippers, and a toothbrush. The sheets were clean, and it felt private enough that I could actually sleep.
Since there are Japanese staff, communication in Japanese was easy. Everyone staying there was traveling solo, so it was very quiet. I even wondered if it was the quietest place in all of Hawaii (lol). The shared lounge/living area was also quiet, and you could get free tea and water.
My capsule was next to the women-only door, so I frequently heard the door opening and closing in the middle of the night and early morning, which was a bit bothersome. My only real complaint would be the shared showers. I stayed for two nights, and on the second day, someone hadn't rinsed out their hair after using the shower, and the sinks were also full of hair. I guess that's to be expected for this price point. Other than that, everything else was good. I think it's a great place if you can tolerate the showers."

"The Rainbow Tower is quite new and the rooms are decent, but the elevators are incredibly slow. With over 1000 rooms sharing just 5 elevators, you're looking at nearly a ten-minute wait every time. I'd advise against booking an ocean view room because you won't really see much ocean; it's mostly lagoon. For a true ocean view, you'd need to book an 'oceanfront view,' and even then, it depends on the front desk's mood – they might give you a low floor where you still can't see anything. My room was on a very low floor with virtually no view, plus there was construction going on downstairs, which was very noisy. The hotel's location is a bit out of the way for Waikiki; it's over a 15-minute walk to the main area. However, it's only a 15-minute walk to Ala Moana Shopping Center. Also, if beach quality is important to you, don't stay here. The beach is full of coral fragments, which hurt your feet, and the water is murky. The towel counter closes at 6 PM, so there's nowhere to return towels after that. Additionally, they don't offer complimentary beach chairs or bodyboards, unlike Marriott where they're free. Overall, it's not really worth the price."

"Booking in at reception was a friendly and very easy experience. The room was good but had more of a close up view of bushes than a City View.
The food I had was good, however the bar was often very busy with just one person making the food and serving drinks. I tried to get served a few times but had to leave and returned a bit later for service.
The location was very good for bus services and convenient for walking to local Waikiki beaches and along Kalakaua Ave."

"The hotel's location is excellent, making it super convenient for getting around, shopping, and dining. What was really frustrating is that I booked through an agent, and the amount I was told to pay at check-in was significantly less than what the hotel actually charged. When I contacted Trip.com, they said the agent told them the final payment should be based on what the hotel charges, and that I should negotiate with the hotel directly. I absolutely cannot accept this kind of buck-passing, or even fraudulent, behavior from an agent. Trip.com eventually compensated me for my loss, so they were quite proactive in resolving the issue. I strongly advise everyone to avoid booking through agents; they need to be held accountable for their actions!"

"We stayed at this hotel from October 29 to November 4. Overall, the staff was polite and the room was cleaned daily with fresh towels provided — which we appreciated. However, several issues significantly affected our experience.
First, the accessible bathroom we specifically booked did not match the photos. There was no handheld shower head, which was important for us. Second, the mirror in the hallway was noticeably dirty upon arrival, with visible streaks from a wet cloth — quite unpleasant for a hotel of this level.
I also reported that the faucet in the sink splashed water everywhere, soaking the countertop and the floor. I was told the issue would be checked, but nothing was fixed throughout our stay. The two-faucet system used to regulate water in the bathroom was also very inconvenient, and we consistently had problems with unstable hot water pressure.
A separate major issue was the parking. I prepaid and reserved parking for 5 days, but on the second evening all the spots were already taken, and I was simply instructed to park in a different building nearby. This was extremely inconvenient — having to carry things from the 3rd floor of another parking structure and waste additional time. It turned out that even if you pay in advance, your parking spot is not guaranteed — anyone from outside can take it. So you pay, but end up without the service you were promised.
Overall, the staff tried to provide good service, but the organizational issues, maintenance problems, and poorly managed parking system seriously reduced our comfort. Unfortunately, after this experience, I cannot recommend this hotel."

"The location of the hotel is really close to waikiki beach 10 min walk , grab your coffee on the way and go to the beach , the hotel staffs are amazing, very helpful, supportive, friendly, every single one of them , this is really important as a solo traveller I had so many questions and inquiries and they helped me to solve everything in an instance. They even have weights to weigh my luggage before the flight. The room had a stunning balcony, everything so clean, no smell no mold, everything was working , the AC , the mini fridge, they even gave me a kettle because i said I loved having coffee in the morning. They have tours as well , activities like hula dancing , Lei making, there is an ABC store for your water , fruits , snacks , sunscreen . Very convenient .

"Beach only 2 minutes away from hotel. Restaurants and ABC stores all nearby. Safe places to walk even at night. Front desk customer service are super helpful and friendly. SSuibianzhuzhuhaodejiudianI was pulling my hair out trying to pick a hotel in Waikiki, but I finally settled on one that wasn't too old and had fewer negative reviews – Ka Laʻi, LXR Hotels & Resorts.
🏨 This hotel used to be the Trump International Hotel and was rebranded as Hilton's LXR last year. Since there's no LXR series in my home country, I did some research and found out that LXR is Hilton's luxury brand, launched in 2018. During my stay, I truly experienced the meticulousness of Japanese-style service. There were many Japanese staff at the front desk and concierge, which explains why so many Japanese influencers recommend it on Instagram.
🛏️ The biggest surprise in the room was the fully equipped kitchen. It wasn't just for show; you could actually cook in it – Zwilling knives, Kinto glassware and pottery, and even a rice cooker and toaster. All the pots, pans, and utensils were there, even chopsticks. What's most commendable is that every single piece of tableware was sparkling clean, like new. For us, who can't finish super-sized portions, being able to pack leftovers and reheat them was a huge convenience. The toiletries were Byredo, which is rare to find in tasteful hotels in the US. The wardrobe in the room also felt very high-quality.
📍 It's a quiet oasis amidst the hustle and bustle. It's a 5-minute walk to the beach and a 5-minute walk to the shopping street. The room offered a partial ocean view, making it convenient for dining, entertainment, and activities, yet it was very quiet at night.
🎳 The only downside was that the public recreation facilities were undergoing renovation, and the pool was temporarily closed. If this is a concern for you, I recommend checking the progress beforehand or waiting until the renovations are complete.
✅ Overall, if you want a comfortable, home-like stay in Waikiki without sacrificing the quality of a luxury hotel, this LXR is definitely worth adding to your favorites.

- Spacious
- The sink was large. I was able to spread out all my amenities. The large mirror and magnifying mirror made applying makeup easy.
- Excellent shower pressure.
- The toilet flushed smoothly.
- The bathroom had a large luggage storage area with over 10 hangers. I brought folding hangers but didn't use them. I was able to easily fit three inflatable swim rings and a suitcase.
- There were plenty of chests of drawers, so I was able to store all my clothes.
- There was a large mirror behind the sofa, making it easy to get ready.
- There were also multiple outlets on the side beds, so charging my phone was easy.
- Two adults and a small child could sleep comfortably on the king bed. There was also a sofa bed, but we didn't use it.
- The housekeeper always cleaned the room well, and there was no sand from the beach.
- Plenty of towels and tissues.
- The coffee machine, paper cups, and drinking glasses were always kept replenished.
[Pool/Beach]
- You can go directly to the beach from the pool. There were plenty of beach chairs reserved for the hotel, so it was easy to find a spot. You could leave your towel and luggage there, play in the pool, then play on the beach and then return to the pool empty-handed.
Duke's staff are always wandering around the poolside checking for orders, so you can order from the menu on the spot. You can even drink alcohol while swimming in the pool.
Floor rings are allowed in the pool.
Beach bags are provided in the rooms, so you can use them. They're large and sturdy, and I often saw people carrying them around town. I didn't need to bring my own. Water bottles are also provided.
There's a water dispenser by the pool.

The staff were friendly and helpful.
The staff helped me with my luggage as soon as I arrived. I arrived at 12:30, but they allowed me to check in early without asking. My luggage was delivered to my room promptly, and after I told them where the safe was, they left the room saying, ”Enjoy!”, so I almost missed a tip.
While there aren't many Japanese people and none of the staff speaks Japanese perfectly, I was able to get by with just a few words.
Security is tight, as you can't get on the elevators without a hotel card.
Conveniently, there's a Hula Grill and Duke's just down the street from the lobby. For a late breakfast around 9:00, Hula Grill was open, and I was able to get a great beachfront seat without a reservation.
I got a cheap city view room on the first floor, but I was more than satisfied with the ocean view from the lanai.
The location is great, with the International Market Place right across the street. There are also plenty of shops downstairs. I forgot to buy souvenirs the day before my final day, so I popped into Honolulu Cookies, which is open until 10:00 PM, in my pajamas.
It's right in the middle of Waikiki Beach, so both the Royal Hawaiian Center and Waikiki Beach Walk are within walking distance.
I was very satisfied, but as other reviews have said, it can be noisy at night. Street music can be heard until late every night. However, I enjoyed it because I thought, ”Everyone's so cheerful. It feels like I'm overseas.” There were days when I could hear something that sounded like opera, and it felt like I got a good deal.
It's strange that there are so few Japanese people there, considering the location and service are so good. There are almost no Japanese people there, so it feels like I'm abroad.

GGuest UserWe were given Room 08 in the Ewa building, and the balcony view was exactly as pictured. Even though we were on a high floor, we could still faintly hear the lively party music at night, but it didn't bother our sleep. I'm not sure if it would be an issue for lower floors. Getting to the beach was super convenient – just cross the street, turn right, and you're there. The waves on this part of the beach are very gentle and consistent, so I'd recommend renting a board and heading out. The hotel providing beach towels and chairs was a nice touch and very convenient. The room itself was quite spacious, and while it felt a bit dated, the restroom and bathroom had been renovated with updated fixtures, including a Japanese toilet. The only downside is that the bathroom space felt a bit cramped.

GGuest UserThe hotel is nice for the price of low $223 but they charge $45 per day of activity fees but I never used. The location is about 10 minutes walk from the central Waikiki area but is OK. The breakfast buffet is good and includes in the room package. The only problem is that they only have valet parking for $60 per day. It took them 45 minutes in the morning to get my car down on day 1 and we missed the tour. The other days were 10 to 15 minutes. I guess they don’t have enough parking so they have to double park and triple park. I tried to park at the adjacent Banyan lot but all full after 8pm. There are no other viable option other than valet parking in the hotel.

AAnonymous UserWent there for our honeymoon, and the partial ocean view was actually better than I expected! The room condition itself was all fine, but the bathroom was the worst! It's a dry bathroom, but there's no shower door or curtain in the shower stall, so it literally floods... I almost slipped several times in the bathroom. And the towel rack is right above the toilet, so you can't even hang towels there. There's some kind of hook by the door, but how are you supposed to hang all your towels there? Also, for honeymoons, everyone usually gets welcome gifts and decorations... but after checking in, there was nothing. When I asked at the info desk, they said it's something they do after you've stayed one night, on the evening of the next day or something. They just brushed me off, and there was nothing at all during our entire stay. When I mentioned these issues at checkout, they gave me a box of cookies, but it felt like I was being treated as a difficult customer... Anyway, aside from these problems, it wasn't bad, and Hawaii itself was absolutely wonderful!

AAnton-MarlinGreat Stay thank you - Location was Great You get charged for a Day Rate for Coffee etc & we are happy with this But when you arrive after 9pm & you cannot get coffee Disappointed that you still get charged Room was Great but Air Con not the best, Location was the bets for our 2 night stay in Hawaii Make sure you get room on high floor as there is a night club on Enterence - Morning Owner was Verry Plesent & Friendly Thankyou & we recommend this hotel

MManaSuisseExcept for the location near the airport I wouldn't recommend this hôtel. It's dirty and noisy. And when the breakfast is included in the price of room, you get coupon for the restaurant. The choice of food for breakfast is very small. And it's either coffee (a very very bad one) or water (a very very small bottle). And then you are allowed to eat in the restaurant and you have to take away and eat in your room as there is no other places to eat. This breakfast is a joke :(

MMf_808We travel 3-5 times a year from Maui, and love staying at the Best Western Plaza Hotel. The staff is great, my daughter loves the pool, and we love waking up and going down to get breakfast every morning.

I was a little worried about the height because I wanted a clear view of the sea, but I was satisfied with the Lanai overlooking the two without any problems.
It is old as a whole, the bathtub is old, and it takes time to get hot water.
