Our stay at the Soggy Peso was not as expected. The Poolside Room 1 bedroom needs to be updated and cleaned, housekeeping needs to be provided, and promised amenities need to be working. The blinds would not stay attached and kept falling off the entire week. When we reported this to Colleen, we were provided with duct tape and a bed sheet to sustain some aspect of privacy that was not functional or private. We questioned the safety issues stemming from the blinds, and Colleen dismissed our concerns stating, “We just bought the place in March, and we are taking each stay as a trial to see what needs to be updated." The safe in the room was locked, and we could not use it until the 2nd day. This required us to carry all our money/passports on our person until they got around to fixing the problem. The room is extremely dirty, and the furniture isn’t functional. The dresser had debris inside each drawer, and the bedside tables had no drawers. The hardware that holds the only hand towel provided fell out of the wall on the second day. The bathroom runs on septic, so all waste had to be discarded in the trash can, which did not have a lid, making everything smell horrible. Colleen provided us with trash bags when we requested a lid. We purchased a trash can with a lid from the grocery store and left it for the next guest. When we asked about housekeeping items (new towels, fresh bedsheets, more toilet paper), we were told, “We usually do not change the sheets during a one week stay. Bag up your trash and put it outside of your room. I will ask for new towels to be placed on the chair outside of your room later today.” On day 3, the trash had not yet been removed, and it now had flies. We had to ask the bar staff multiple times to remove our trash (located right outside our door). We struggled to enter our room without letting flies in. Rushing in to avoid the flies would cause the blinds to fall off, and we would trip over the unsecured bedsheet draped over the entry. We never received towels and had to retrieve them on our own. During the last three days of our stay, we went without toilet paper and had to use napkins from the bar. Our floor was filthy. We had to brush off the sheets with our hands to remove all the extra debris coming from the dirty floor and then sticking to our feet. We had to use dirty towels to wipe our dirty feet to get back into our dirty bed every night. Colleen was defensive, which made us feel dismissed and taken advantage of. No effort was made to resolve our disappointment—the right thing to do never happened. This trip was booked to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary, and it caused unnecessary challenges that took away from our celebration. We felt uncomfortable here and would not book this place again.
