RiverTree Villa & Resort

Stayed here for 3 nights with my 8 year old son. Nice location by the small river with free kayaks and a free speedboat trip. Our room was riverfront with a nice balcony and everything was very clean and well maintained. Would I say good 4 star hotel needs a bit of service improvement like no fish or chicken available even though menu. But would definitely stay again.

Strongly recommend property provides very good environmental and service quality to all customers. Our room is very nice and comfortable. The breakfast is good, tasty and multiple options to choose. Friendly, helpful and informative staffs.

I stayed here for 4 days as a break from my life in Phnom Penh. I am a university professor of anthropology. First and foremost, the staff were all extremely accommodating and helpful -- above and beyond. The resort is about 7 km north of the center of Kampot but a driver will take you back and forth when you want. I also used a bicycle on one day. On my last day my bus home was not until 7 pm, so they let me stay until 5 pm without charge (and, of course, there were only few guests checking in). Extremely generous and profoundly welcome. The restaurant is the weak spot of the resort. It is advertised as specializing in traditional Khmer food and it does not. There are a few classic dishes on the menu, and an awful lot of Western schlock such as nachos. Furthermore, the quality of the few khmer dishes is poor. I had their fish amok on the first day and it actually made me physically ill. It was poorly made, in any case, without the classic flavors I am used to. I can make it better myself. Breakfast is a mini-buffet, or to order, and was also disorganized. The book in my room said breakfast began at 6 am, but when I went there at that time there was no one there. Breakfast actually starts at 6:30 and the roll out of food is slow. The full buffet on the first day was not available until 7 am. Second day I went there was no buffet at 6:30 and the front desk told me there was no buffet that day -- except there was: they were just late getting started. 7 am was the actual time again. Both days the buffet was a noodle dish (not really hot), sausages, and an assortment of side dishes plus breads etc. Passable but not interesting. Third day there was no buffet -- menu order only. My room was exceptional. It had a kitchen and dining area with a microwave, hot water kettle,sink, etc on a work space, plus a full dining area laid out. I used this space to make my own meals as much as I could -- instant noodles with veggies and so forth. Bedroom was large and comfortable with a big flat screen TV with no signal!!! Not a problem. WiFi was super fast and very efficient. Off the bedroom was a balcony, and beyond that a river walk (with canoes/kayaks available). There were also 2 saunas which I cannot help feeling is a joke. Go outside at noon if you want a sauna. The resort had a number of activities which I should have chosen -- such as a morning up Bokor mountain -- but I had already booked similar trips before arriving. I believe that the resort's trips would have been better. If I return to Kampot I would be happy to return here but would be sure to pack my own food.
