Kusatsu Onsen Kusatsu Hotel1913

We stayed for one night on November 28. Reservation is HP of Kusatsu Hotel. We booked a main building corner room with two meals per night. You can pick up and drop off by car from Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal. Kusatsu Hotel is a beautiful Japanese style inn with a wooden 3-story building built on the high ground of the entrance to the West Kawahara Park. The quaint building is very good atmosphere. The antique furnishings and decorated raw flowers were modest and beautiful. The adjacent Kataoka Tsurutaro Museum of art seems to be operated by Kusatsu Hotel. The corner room on the 3 floor of the main building was a good room with a good view with two corners surrounded by windows. The old wooden frame window feels good. Thanks to the snow that had fallen the day before, we enjoyed the snowy scenery of Kusatsu. The ”Okuba” of the restaurant, which was extended to 2020, is a modern and bright atmosphere while leaving a Japanese taste. The breakfast and evening meals were beautiful, and all the dishes using fresh ingredients were delicious. The public bath (open-air two hot water) is also in a new separate building. It is full of openness and is kept clean. With a large inner bath with a source hanging water and an open-air bath, Kusatsu! It was a very pleasant hot water. (West Kawahara source) Kusatsu Hotel, great satisfaction with a wonderful inn as word of mouth!

Location - about 10min walk from the bus terminal at Kusatsu station. Walkable unless it's snowy or froze on the ground as part of the path is quite steep to walk up. Not hard to find as the town is quite close to everything. About 15min walk to yubatake for the famous onsen for pictures and local food and snacks. You can walk to the Sainokawara Onsen(open air public onsen) for about 8min which is located just behind the hotel itself. Service - they do provide transport to and from Yubatake with a specific timetable. They also have an open luggage area at the main hall if you area before check-in you could just leave the luggage and explore the town. They also have separate gender onsen with both indoor and outdoor facilities. They came around 7pm to my room to offer to set up my sleeping mattress. The dinner time was 6.45pm to 8pm and they may vary between seasons. You will be located in a seat in the dining room so don't worry about the crowd and having to fight for your seat. It's buffet style food and I read previous comments about food being cold. They aren't cold as it was heated around 60c ish but the moment food leaves the Bain Marie it will become cold especially during winter. Alcohol is included but you need to be 18 years old. They will start closing some stations including soft serve around 7.30pm so do get there earlier. Cleanliness - just an older building and maintenance pretty ok. You could tell from the design it's a bit outdated but it wasn't dirty or messy. Amenities - they have a Japanese sleep/bath robe at the main hall for guests to take if you need. There's no wifi in the room unfortunately and the only free wifi provided by the hotel is just located down at the main hall. I was given a Japanese style room which is pretty standard. It was on the 7th floor so it came with a pretty good view.

It felt like the food hadn't evolved from the pension culture of the 80's. It seems that you can claim to be French if you have fish and meat dishes. The river fish was simple and good, but the meat was placed on a hot bedrock that ruined the quality and volume. If it was served on a normal plate, I could have enjoyed the medium to the end. oh sorry. The soup (morning and evening) and the scrambled eggs (morning) were unnaturally thick and unappetizing, as if some kind of thickener had been used. And the ultimate dessert. It was a quality like a service dessert for lunch in the 1,000 yen range (especially dry because I have a sweet tooth). On the other hand, the bath is truly Kusatsu! It was the first time in a while that makes me think. I don't like public baths, so if it's empty, I can always lock it and go in by myself.
KAMENOI HOTEL KUSATSU YUBATAKE

It is about a 5-minute walk from Yubata and Nishinogawara Park. The location is good, but there is no shuttle service. It is recommended to take a taxi when it snows. The hardware shows signs of age, but it was renovated late last year. If the price difference is not big, please choose a room on a high floor. The view will be much different. The food is amazing. If you like drinking, be sure to purchase the drinking menu. You can order a variety of alcoholic beverages for 1,980 yen per person, which is a great deal.
