Way overpriced. The two out of five is not a ding on the cleanliness or quality of the room, you know what you are getting yourself into by staying at a “non standardized” hotel. The room was spotless and comfortable and updated. The downside is there were no amenities on property and for the room rate it was disappointing. Restaurant was dark and closed, the morning departure was the same. We had two take away breakfast bags but no coffee was available downstairs. Again no real complaints of the quality taken without regard to what was charged for it, just know what you are getting for $216 bucks for one night in a small town. Mid week with no amenities open or available I would consider it extremely overpriced for a room. Bypass the Sherman if there are no events or amenities open is my recommendation - unless you dont care what you get for your money.
Response from Property: Hello M268, Thank you for reaching out. It seems you booked (or were booked into) one of our two suites which are more expensive (standard rooms are $149). The two suites, while different from each other include 2 or 3 TVs, separate wet-bars, separate sleeping rooms etc. One has a kitchenette etc. The price for these two rooms are each $189 with 12% tax, that's $211.68. So if you feel you were over charged and/or not in one of our suites, please contact us so we can take a look. We appreciate that you found the cleanliness etc. were in good standing. Staffing challenges shut down the restaurant though we hope to find a remedy soon. Please check back as you come through the area as we continue to add things back.

First I must say the bed was very comfortable and we got a good nights sleep. However the room doesn’t come with fridge or lounge chair which is inconvenient if you want to just hang out in your room. There are rooms with both fridge and two chairs but I guess you have to win the lottery to get them. Hotel wasn’t busy so when booking a premium King room would have expected more. There is no restaurant or bar despite showing photos on site. We were hoping for restaurant meal of authentic German food. Many reviews mention the restaurant and having a drink at the bar. But it appears since 2022 or 2023 these are not available. Some reviews mention breakfast no one at hotel mentioned this so be aware you may or may not get one. If you take the stay as a whole the bed was comfortable and clean. But the listing for amenities and dining are far from accurate which leaves you feeling cheated.
Response from Property: Thank you for your feedback and giving us the opportunity to respond. There are 22 unique hotel rooms at The Sherman and they all have different floor plans; some larger than others. We don't have "premium" kings though some of the larger ones have a small fridge. These are historic boutique rooms and not the cookie cutter big box rooms you find everywhere else. We painstakingly choose the highest quality mattresses to ensure good sleep. All of historic rooms are on the small size and not typically designed to hangout for long periods of time. Staffing challenges shut down the restaurant recently though it's been years since we had the talent to serve German meals and we apologize for those expectations. Small towns are very different from even a few years ago. During your stay the Bier Hall Restaurant was open and we regret that somehow it slipped by. As an independent small hotel in a smaller town we appreciate our guests who support us. Thank you again for your visit and hope you will check us out again.

The room was clean but small. Pillows were not comfortable. One had a stain on it. The biggest disappointment for us was the restaurant and bar were closed. The Biergarten was also closed. There was no mention of any of these being closed on their website or when we made our reservation. Our breakfast was a bag with granola bar, a store bought pre packaged fruit salad, store bought danish and pre packaged orange or cranberry juice. Very narrow staircase which we knew there was no elevator. There is a lot this hotel needs to do to even be a 3star hotel! Would not stay there again..
Response from Property: We regret that you didn't enjoy your stay at the 170-year-old historic Sherman Inn. Such places are not for everyone's tastes. We have had the same breakfast since covid with very little complaints. Staffing challenges in small towns are starting to get a bit better and we are working overtime to get the Black Forest Bar and/or Bier Hall back open and invite you to check with us in the future when you are back in the area. The website is up to date but there are areas on the internet that businesses cannot change and/or delete photos that guests have posted. As an independent small business hotel in a small town we appreciate very much the support of our guests.

I have stayed at and visited The Sherman several times. This time around noticed the Biergarten and what a find! There is an unmarked door up a couple steps through the garden area to access the bar and restrooms. Live music often, lots of seating, fire pits and nice staff.

Quaint old building in downtown Batesville. Room was very clean, and king bed was very comfortable. Updated bathroom had a great shower (even if it was on the smaller side). Beer hall right around the corner, also a couple other restaurants within easy walk.

The Sherman is best of both worlds, very clean with modern bath, yet many architectural features preserved. Tom checked us in and his years in hospitality were evident, we felt very welcome. We wandered and wondered at the many features of the inn. The town of Batesville is walkable with historically persevered buildings and quaint shops featuring local artists. There are many activities scheduled for summer, and a small carnival while we visited.
