VIP Executive Arts Hotel

Parque das Nacoes
After reading the negative reviews, I decided it was worth reporting on our stay here. We were attending Web Summit at the Altice Arena and chose the VIP Executive Art's (sic) because it was a short walk from one end of the venue. Our room faced the street and was pretty spacious and comfortable, with no noise issues whatsoever; our only complaint was that the mini-fridge didn't work. We enjoyed the breakfast included with our rate, which was quite tasty and offered dozens of items, including interesting ones such as coconut brioche. The staff and elevators were fine, and we ate at two restaurants in the next block and enjoyed them both. And getting back to the airport by walking to Oriente station was very easy. Side note: I'm a comics fan and was startled and pleased that our room had a view of the giant superhero mural outside the hotel. If you're visiting Lisbon as a tourist, you'd do better to stay in a quainter and more atmospheric part of town. But for our needs, we were pleased with the experience we got at this hotel.

Since I chose this hotel for its price and its closeness to the airport, I was surprised at how swank it was. However, when I went to print my boarding pass, I couldn't get the printer to work. After some struggle, I asked a nice young lady at the desk and she said that the printer hookup didn't work and used her own printer to print it off for me. That gives a sense of how nice and professional the desk workers were. However, I wish that someone had put up a sign saying that the printer was down so that I would not have wasted so much time. Also, my room did not have enough toilet paper, I enjoyed the coffee maker in the room once I realized that I had to stick my doorkey (card) in a slot by the door in order to have any electricity. The room had USB ports so I did not have to use a converter to charge my phone, The room was clean and attractive and all the rooms seem to have a balcony. Mine looked out on the rotary and a gas station. The food was fabulous. The goat cheese salad and the watermelon gazpacho were amazing. The breakfast buffet consisted of hot dishes, cheeses, cold cuts, cut up fresh fruits and a whole shelf of pastry. I would come back!

Pros: The apartment is WELL equipped with everything anyone can think of. It feels like being at home, not having to worry about anything missing (kitchenware, electrical appliances, first-aid kit etc.). The staff is available upon request via phone and/or WhatsApp (the reception office is under construction) and are very kind and helpful. I had a problem with the bathtub water stopper, and they sent a technician almost immediately to fix it. Cons: Location: when I ordered the apartment, I was not familiar with the city of Lisbon. It's located in a beautiful area but not near the city center. Plenty of things to do around, but it takes 30-40 minutes to get to the city center. Another issues was with the air-condition. There are two air-conditions in the apartment. One is located in the bedroom and it works fine. The other one is near the main entrance door and it's not cooling the living room properly (or it does so after working for a long time).

Oriente is this modern uber-cool area of Lisbon, and whilst it's a good journey to the centre of Lisbon, is a cool place to lay your head for the night. The breakfast offering was reasonable and nice, the staff were great, and the rooms (though small for someone who's lived in America for ten years) were pretty well--equipped with helpful things. Top tip: to get ice you need to use the ice/water machine on the ground floor by the drink dispensers. As there are no ice buckets, buy a small tub from somewhere like the Contiente in the big mall, and use that. We Europeans don't do ice much. Other than that, expect an exceptionally quirky hostel, with great staff, and you'll have a good time
Hotel Ibis Lisboa Parque Das Nações

It is a standard 3-star hotel in a great location - close to the airport by train (3 stations) or taxi (less than 10 minutes) and within 3 minutes walk from the Oriente central station. It is located outside of the city centre but offers easy access to many good restaurants, a major shopping mall, Vasco de Gama, and a hypermarket, Continente. The good: The room was clean, quiet with a comfortable bed. Food service was available in the main floor 24 hours, 7 days a week. The bad: The room was tiny, almost claustrophobic. Too pricey for the quality. Also, the room was advertised with a safe but it did not come with it.

The hotel location is very good, right next to Lisbon Oriental Train Station. The internal facilities are general. The only way to book this hotel is to get to Porto by train. However, the room booked at Ctrip gave the worst room to the hotel. During the renovation, and Ctrip asked, the response from Ctrip was that the hotel was full, and it was obviously lying, because there were still rooms for sale on the Ctrip online, so be careful when you booked a room on Ctrip.
