Used to love staying here, this was my first stay since the hotel was ‘refurbished ‘. The new room design is dreadful. There’s no seperate bathroom , the toilet and shower open directly into the bedroom and the washbasin is right next to the bed. The shower cubicle ( which as I mentioned opens directly into the bedroom ) has a panel with a one way mirror. This means that the person who is having a shower can see their own reflection but whoever is sharing the room with you can such sit there and watch you showering - bizarre to be honest. The panel to control the heating in the room was dead, I did report it as indeed I also reported that the coffee machine wouldn't switch on either. The hotel no longer serves dinner, whoever is on reception has to run over to the bar if you want to drink. The majority of the seating in the dining area consists of tall stools and high tables , not really how I would choose to eat my breakfast. The staff are lovely but the newly designed interior is a disaster. I understand that NOVOTEL are no longer responsible for the car park under the hotel but it’s worth mentioning that if you do use it it’s eye wateringly expensive. Sad to report that after using the NOVOTEL in Ypres pretty much every Chris**as for the last 18 years I’ll almost certainly be looking for an alternative hotel next year . Sad really.
