Hotels near St Stephen＇s Gardens in London

Walls were not clean when we arrived and lots of cobwebs on door surface especially around metal frame. We had to check out at 11 so plenty of time for rooms to be cleaned and turned around. Bedclothes are extremely old and worn. They should be replaced as they look like they were bought and in use since the last century, an old relative is only person who I would imagine has such textiles. Beds were very small so again when was the last time furniture was updated. Bathroom was ok but very old shower. Overall the price vs standard of accommodation does not match up and I would recommend only visiting this hotel as a last resort. With more investment, it could be better as the location is quite good.

At first we were put in the lower ground - the room was dusty, very small and the window would not open. When we spoke with the manager he moved us and was very accommodating with us - it was a free upgrade which we greatly appreciated and made our trip so much more comfortable. The new room was on floor 3 with a lovely view of the gardens opposite and was very clean. The location really sold this hotel for us - close to 3 stations, great pub on the corner, lots of places to eat in Notting Hill, 10 mins walk from Portobello Rd. The breakfast was not included as advertised, but it did not look appetising to us so we opted to go out rather than pay £7 to eat at the hotel. There are limitless options.

Tea/coffee facilities in the room would have made a difference. kind of expect at least a kettle and a cup with a few tea bags. Great location for Hyde Park, Notting Hill area with Bayswater tube a 4min walk. I am OK with stairs but the lack of lift could catch people out especially if on the top floor, steep stairs and lots of them. Would come back to. Room clean with no issues at all.

Room was clean and good. Lots of storage spaces for your stuff. Staff were really nice and humble. And location was really convenient and very close to Paddington station. The only downsides were room service and breakfast. We stayed there for 3 nights and they didn't even clean the room once, even after requesting them to. Instead they gave us bin bag to empty our own garbage bin which felt really weird. The breakfast was sooooo bad. We mostly had breakfasts outside even though we paid for breakfast (included with room booking). I felt they can improve the breakfast for the price we are paying. Even the cheapest hotels have proper English breakfast.

The morning after our first night my friend and I noticed a bug crawling on one of the beds, we continued our investigation and noticed DOZENS of those crawling all over the twin beds we just spent the night in. We were exhausted the night before after coming back to hotel late and after having shower just jumped straight into beds - who would have thought we weren’t they only ones spending night in those beds! Quick research after our findings and we realised that those were BEDBUGS! Never in my life had I come across anything like this before, not even after being a student and staying at questionable hostels! We reported this to the reception and were offered another room. We didn’t move immediately in the morning and made an agreement that we would move in the evening when we would be back to the hotel. Coming back in the evening and reporting to the reception for a new room, we found one of the evening staff being rude to us and questioning if the bedbugs were from their hotel (like what?!?!?!?). Simple, we said, because we had photo and video evidence of bedbugs crawling all over the beds, we said! This quickly ended her argument with us. We then moved to our new room, where there was no obvious evidence of bedbug infestation, however being a reportedly new room, we found hair all over the floor in the bathroom of that allegedly “cleaned” new room. Unfortunately, being an extremely sensitive to cleanness person and following the events of the previous night, I decided to leave early and not spent another night in this disgusting hotel. My friend, who had a flight early next morning however had no chance and spend a little longer and left at 04am. The evening I decided to leave I started coming out in rash, which had only been getting worse ever since. The intensity of the itch is like nothing I’d ever experienced before - it stops me from sleeping, it drives me absolutely mad, no matter how much I try, one can’t look professional when they have bite marks all over their body, including the face, ears, neck, fingers, hands, forearms - ie areas one can’t cover up - and needing to constantly scratch herself! This obviously has affected my work! And the itch is no better even 6 days later!! In fact, the bite marks are now swollen, causing swelling of my fingers, the scratch marks are now bleeding and I am the most irritated I’ve ever been! Let me emphasise, this is six days later and I genuinely don’t know how much longer I’m yet to suffer! I have obviously filed a complaint and have been contacted by the hotel - they are “kindly” offering to compensate the cost of my medication (as I am now on antihistamines - which don’t work really, as I can’t take the stronger type due to its sedating effect, as I have to continue working and driving; as well as steroid cream) and the cost of my dry cleaning. HOWEVER, despite multiple email exchanges and telephone consultations, they are not planning to refund a 100% of our payment, the argument being

Good service, the people at the front desk are very nice. The room was clean and spacious. Convenient to travel, very close to Tesco. The serviced apartments are very well equipped.

I was upgraded to a room that had a view as the one I was given originally faced a brick wall and with the new room was not disappointed. The room is well appointed but the reason I don't give it the highest marks for a 4star hotel is because if you want to make yourself a hot drink you have to get dressed and go down the corridor because they have decided to take away ammenities like personal kettles. I get they have replaced these things with 2 amps that you can plug a guitar into but there were no instructions when I tried to look it up (and I play guitar). It would be better served with a DAB radio and a kettle or some other sort of modern way to get hot water. Other than that, loved the products and the staff were really lovely and funny! It was clean, and the location is great, but I wouldn’t say it’s worth it. The price was cheaper than other places around, if you’re on a budget may be a good option. But don’t trust the pictures — everything was very old, the pictures are from better days. They did some renovations, but the furniture was ancient, and the bathroom had moldy smell. Also, there was a mistake in my booking, instead of 1 person it said 3, so I had an extra trolley bed in my room that took most of the space. In addition, the walls are very thin — I could hear the neighbors all the time, and even when they tried to put something in the outlet on another side of the wall, it was super loud. Overall, not the best experience.

It's great value for the location. So easy to walk to Paddington Station, Hyde Park, Notting Hill, Portobello Road, Oxford Street and many other interesting areas. It's close to buses and underground stations and surrounded by cafes and restaurants. The rooms are a bit ”cosy” and some a little dark but perfectly OK especially for short stays. It's clean and the staff could not be more helpful or friendly.

Overall, my stay at Dreamtel London Kensington Hotel was a mixed experience. The location of the hotel is fantastic, making it convenient to explore the vibrant neighborhood and nearby attractions. However, I was disappointed with the amenities provided. Several issues were encountered, including broken table lamps and a malfunctioning hairdryer. With some improvements to the amenities, particularly ensuring that all equipment is in proper working order, Dreamtel London Kensington Hotel has the potential to provide a more satisfactory guest experience.
