First, a thank you again to the Tripadvisor community greatly helping me to make the right choice for a three day stay at the Mayerling Hotel. Everything stated in the reviews was very helpful and correct and I so appreciate a reliable source that you can count on when you need the right advice. We had just finished a guided group tour of Portugal and Spain ending up in Madrid. We wished to explore Madrid a little more as we usually do at the end of our travels. Traveling with a group tour, we stayed in many different types of hotels, most of which are four and sometimes five star. That's fine, but when we are on our own, we look for specific things in a hotel where we want to spend time exploring the city on our own. Important are Clean, Comfortable,Economical, Don't need fancy, and most important location, location, location, walking distance close to the tourist areas where we will be spending a lot of time. Also Metro close by so we can explore further. I think there are many travelers like ourselves who are savvy travelers, and this is how we are able to enjoy so much traveling as we have. Mayerling Hotel was a great example of the type of hotel that savvy travelers appreciate. It fit all of our requirements plus the staff were very kind and helpful, for real, not just the standard behind the desk clerks that are usually at a lot of hotels. Wish more hotels could be this way. The breakfast here is simple, just a little something to get you started for an adventurous day. This location is really, really good for being able to explore all kinds of directions in the tourist's interests and the metro is very close also. One of the days while staying here was my Birthday, and when we came back to hotel in the evening, a little surprise of Chocolates and a Birthday note was waiting. Such a sweet gesture! Thank you Mayerling for a lovely stay!

Part of a hostel. Bedroom is small with worn out built in robes. There’s ironing board with no iron. Living area is spacious. TV only has Spanish programs. Kitchen has fridge, electric cooktop, washing machine, dishwasher, pots & fry pan, plates/bowls, kitchen utensils. No dishwashing powder for dishwasher, nor washing machine. One problem is there’s no power point in kitchen area for benchtop electrical appliances. For some reason the electrician didn’t connect any power points next to benchtop. We had to use the kettle, toaster & coffee machine at the power point next to the floor. Even the staff couldn’t explain why. Maybe only in suite 306. Staff has to defrost the fridge as it’s slowly building up ice. 3rd night was a bit noisy from nearby till early hours of the morning not sure from nearby neighbourhood or from hostel. No tea/coffee/milk provided. Stayed 3 nights with no housekeeping done. Good location facing road leading to Plaza Mayor. It’s a very busy street. Not very clean with lots of rubbish & homeless people sleeping around the place. Other streets much cleaner & some with beautiful buildings.

Conveniently located in the heart of Madrid. The central point of Madrid is concentrated and the walking tour is also very convenient. This location is ideal for walking around the museums, churches and more. The Youth Hostel itself seems to be a whole building with a large scale, so the service is relatively complete. The facilities should be the standard of the general youth travel, you need to bring your own password lock to lock the luggage stored in the room, and do not provide any toiletries. Unfortunately, if you want to store your luggage, it is not free. You need to store it in the locker downstairs. (Large baggage can also be put down, don't worry about it.) But if the room itself is facing the street, there will be noise problems. People in other beds will inevitably have the sound of entering or leaving the luggage.

One of the best hostel I've ever been to. The 8-people shared bedroom was BIG, with beds safely distant. The overall cleanliness of the host was good, the atmosphere was great (with sangria parties going on every night downstairs and Madrid tours every morning) but the best part was the staff: super friendly and ready to help you. The Italian girl working at the reception was lovely! She recommended lots of her favourite restaurants and they were so good. Thank you so much!

If you are looking for a place to sleep in a good location at a reasonable price this is a perfect solution. My room was spotlessly clean, though small, with a very compact bathroom with shower. It was quiet. The young lady at the front desk was very friendly and helpful, providing me with the address, phone, and map showing the clinic where I later needed to get the COVID test required by US authorities for my return flight. Her English compensated for my weak Spanish. Breakfast is somewhat different from that provided by other B&Bs. When I opened my door in the morning I found a small gift bag containing two small croissants, two muffins, and a bottle of water. In the basement is the ”Coffee Corner” where a variety of coffee and juices, plus fresh fruit (bananas, clementines, apples, pears) are freely available 24 hours a day. This is a great benefit. Rooms have individual air conditioning, but the new modern windows can be opened to let in fresh air if you prefer. That also allows street noise in. When the windows are closed no noise gets in. There was no stopper in the sink. For most people this won't matter but for someone who comes to Madrid after hiking sections of the Camino de Santiago, where nightly washing of underwear is common, this was noticeable. The hotel's location is just adjacent to the Plaza Mayor and only a few more minutes from the Royal Palace. I would stay here again.

We had a very comfortable room on the 4th floor, served by a lift. There was a very large bed, and plenty of cutlery/crockery and a microwave - the latter was useful for heating water as the kettle was quite slow. Good water pressure and a lovely shower. Close to all the sights and public transport. Would happily stay there again.
