Golden Bay Hotel Apartments

Could not have asked for a more comfortable and friendly hotel. Completely chilled out. A lovely relaxing vibe. Joanna during the day, and George on an evening always there at the pool bar, for all our needs. Comfortable rooms with power shower, sheets and towels changed regularly, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen with fridge and microwave, and plenty of storage. Anyone wanting to relax and switch off for a week or two, Gournes and The Golden Bay, is the place to go.

We were overwhelmed by the hospitality of the staff and find it at odds with those in a previous review saying it was unfriendly? It helped that most of the staff were called George and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. George behind reception was very informative throughout our stay and George at the bar was a wealth of knowledge and was an amazing barman enticing us to try out his selection of cocktails and refreshments with almost a free raki with every drink you buy. Drinks at the bar were very reasonable and if the bar stools were a little more comfortable I may have stayed longer at the bar but 2am seemed a reasonable time to quit despite the staff willing to stay for as long as you liked. The Hotel facilities were extremely clean and tidy however it would not be the place for young people expecting the night life of Malia. We had a hire car and enjoyed the local beauty spots advised by the staff. There are a few restaurants within comfortable walking distance and a lovely bakery not far away either. As mentioned in other reviews, on arrival we were disappointed to find out the Air conditioning was €8/night!! I do not blame the hotel for this as they have made TUI aware that they need to have this included in the price they sell the holiday for as it is coast they cannot absorb. I have complained to TUI regarding this as when you select the filters for your holiday you expect them to be included. Next year we will select a holiday with a pool and they will tell us on arrival that it will cost €4 per day extra to use it!! My partner and I met some lovely people whilst at the hotel, the breakfast buffet was really good although we never got time to eat the evening meal. Make sure you take some mosquito protection as on a couple of nights we were bitten a few times.

We came here on a family holiday with our 5 month old daughter, we had a good holiday here but there were a few reasons we probably wouldn’t return, firstly when we arrived we couldn’t all go to reception as there wasn’t a ramp for our pram it was quite a few steps up, Also to get into your room, we requested a ground floor room which we did get however there are 3-4 steps down to your room which meant it was difficult to get the pram up or down the steps alone. The breakfast was ok, plenty of options, however the butter that they put out is vile, you have to ask if you want lurpak butter, but there were many complaints about the butter that they put out you would wonder why they never just put the lurpak out so nobody complained about it? But there was always plenty of option and the seating is lovely where you sit to eat it the weather is ok outside. The live singler I can see is on other reviews and I have to agree, it is shockingly bad. And as said earlier we brought out 5 month old, and they set up the live singer outside our balcony so we couldn’t sit on our balcony and as you can imagine the speakers outside the balcony meant our daughter was not getting to sleep until 11pm, when I went to reception to see if they could turn the speakers down or move her the woman shrugged her shoulders at me and said no there’s nothing they can ro, however surely they knew there was a baby in the room as we had baby toys clothes etc on the balcony which was visible, I think this could have been considered by management before hand. And finally is the location, we are quite a young family so we do enjoy the restaurants the bars and lots of people watching, however you don’t get it on this particular resort. You have to walk to a decent supermarket which is around half an hour as the supermarket close to the hotel isn’t very good, there is only a handful of restaurants which feels abit restricted, we found we just stayed in more nights than we went out which we do like to do anyway but if there were more options it would of been nice to eat out more. Joanna was fabulous and made our holiday, she was brilliant with our daughter every day she went out of her way to speak to us and entertain our daughter, so thank you Joanna! Overall the hotel is beautiful. It’s just the location that slightly let’s it down for us.

We came as a family of 3. On arrival we were warmly greated. The apartment was very clean and modern. In the morning we were greated by joanna, she is fantastic and makes everyone feel appreciated. The breakfast in the morning is very similar every morning but it was nice, bacon and eggs, I personally loved the spanikopita, fresh fruit and pastries. Little George is very friendly and works extremely hard in the morning for breakfast and in the evening too. Big George (evening bar tender) makes sure you are well watered in the evening, making is cocktails which if you come to the pool bar for drinks between 6pm-8pm happy hour is on certain cocktails. Snacks are readily available from the bar during the day and they cater with a buffet greek cuisine at night. Beers are reasonable priced. The hospitality here is brilliant. The only negative I have is that I didn't really sleep well for 2 reasons 1) The air conditioning is and extra fee and very expensive so we did without causing it to be too hot but even if we had paid for it, it was only in one room and our daughter would have been without it. 2) The apartments are right over the flight path to the airport, planes can come over very frequently and all hours, this also kept me awake most nights. Other than them 2 negatives it is a lovely place with lovely people.

We gad such a wonderful time here. Highlight of the trip out here. Staff are the best you'll ever find, nothing is every too much and the accomodation is brilliant, close to sea + small beaches and we had some really great food every night. A lot of love and thought has gone in to every dish we tried and we were excited every night to see what was cooked by a lovely, clearly highly skilled chef. I wouldn't say the same breakfast wise, but something to eat where as the evening meal is worth double the price in my opinion. Overall joy, joy, joy. A++

The beach is unusable and dangerous! The pool is very small and only good for dipping! The pool only gets sun for a small part of the day! Sunbeds if you like being on top of the person next to you go here! One side of the pool is so small you can not put the sunbed flat or you be in the pool!The breakfast well someone should teach them to cook,because they haven't got a clue!,as for local restaurants very limited and not the best Greek menu's ,the live music on Saturday night just loud, badly performed don't do English songs if you can not pronounce words correctly 😉 would I go back there not all the time my **** faces down

Beautiful, immaculately clean apartments. This was our first family holiday abroad since covid. I'm so glad we booked to stay at Golden Bay. The place is amazing. Staff, especially George (Γεώργιος), Joanna (Ἰωάννα) and the 2 lovely cleaning ladies. Nothing was too much trouble for these 4 lovely people. Every morning, we were greeted with big smiles and a friendly Kalimera. Joanna's energy is just amazing. This lady does not stop! The 2 cleaners were also absolute legends. These ladies did not stop all day, every day. And always with a smile. Nothing was too much trouble for them. George, although a little quieter than Joanna, is just as friendly and helpful. Makes a great mojito, too. We all had an amazing holiday. The only downside, hence, the 4 star rating was breakfast. Although there was nothing wrong with it, for a 4-star hotel, it should have just been that little bit better. The fresh figs, watermelon, bananas, and peaches were all delicious, and the Greek yoghurt and honey were amazing. But the hot side of the breakfasts just needs tweaking a little. And I'm sorry, but the coffee was just awful. I gave up on the coffee after day 4. All in all, a beautiful place to stay if you like the quiet life on holiday. Its definitely not for party animals.

We've just had 10 days here and we loved every minute. It is a small hotel which we wanted but has everything you need. The rooms were lovely, the facilities were great but by far the best thing was the staff who could not do enough for you. Joanna always greeted you with a smile each morning, George looked after us wonderfully each night and Rania always had a smile on reception and was ready to answer all your queries. The whole family loved it and I would definitely recommend it for couples or families. Thank you all we had a blast.

We have just come back from spending a week at Golden Bay, and we have had the most wonderful time. By far the highlight of our stay here was the staff - everyone was so friendly and helpful, we were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived. The hotel itself is small and quiet - the pool was lovely, however we spent the majority of our time in the sea instead as it was so close by - there is a pebble beach immediately outside the gates, with sandy beaches a very short walk away. Where we did spend a lot of time was the pool bar - the drinks were all great and reasonably priced, Joanna was wonderful and George was amazing; always very friendly and chatty (and generous with Raki). We had a very nice apartment-style room, with a double bed, kitchenette, TV, sofa, table and chairs, with a nice balcony which we sat on a lot. We had originally been in a semi-underground room with twin beds that had been pushed together - we didn't mind this, however the room felt quite damp so we requested a change, and Rania was very helpful and happy to accommodate our request. There is not a huge amount to do in the immediate local area, but we didn't mind this - if you are looking for loads to do a hire car may be useful, or there is a great selection of excursions, many with transfers from the hotel, which can be booked through reception - George was very helpful with this, and Eleni happily gave us instructions on how to get the bus to Heraklion for a day. We were bed and breakfast, and took full advantage of this - the breakfast had a good selection and the food was ok. The onsite taverna also offered an evening buffet for a good price (if not staying half-board), but we preferred to take the short walk along the seafront to some nearby restaurants, all of which were exceptional. On our final day we tried the hotel's buffet - the food was nice and good value, but I would still choose to go to the restaurants. Overall, we have had an amazing week and we would definitely come back!
