Hotel Santa Maria Merida

3rd trip to Merida, different hotel each time. StM layout appears to be fairly typical: foyer with rooms farther back arranged around a courtyard. This makes it just a little noisy at times but not intolerable at all. The room was clean, clean, clean. 2 (14 nights) weeks, not a single bug except a couple of flying things because I had the door open a few times. Also appears to be a standard room layout, older but not worn. The cleaning folks obviously work hard. Was completely pleased, we tipped 30-50p/day when they cleaned ($2-3 US). Front desk was accommodating as needed. Everyone was friendly. I will stay there again. Keep in mind Centro is 400 years old, so cockroaches and bugs are a thing… at the other places maybe! Not here, I didn’t see a single roach, and believe me I was looking -can’t stand ‘em. I would have left on the spot.

Pool looked good on the Internet, but was empty on arrival and stayed that way for 10 days. Would have been too small for a real swim anyway.

I booked this hotel based on well deserved positive reviews for location and cleanliness, however I think it is worth noting it is basic accommodation and some folks may be disappointed based on the reviews alone. The beds were made with just sheets and we had a blanket in the room we could use but another person in our party had to ask for one. There are no services (kitchen, bar) on site so we would not expect much, but something like glasses or even plastic cups would be nice. It was walkable to the sites we wanted to see and we felt safe and comfortable. Staff were efficient and I expect many of their guests are familiar with the area and don’t have many questions.

We really enjoyed staying at Hotel Santa Maria. Staff were lovey, very knowledgeable, great help organizing tours, airport taxis etc. Room was simple but very clean and comfortable. Nice a quiet but also close the action. Honestly, it exceeded expectations and would stay again. Really nothing to complain about. Nice little cafe on site too for a quick coffee or breakfast sandwich.

I was extremely pleased with the area, hotel and Service. Veronica was very helpful. I loved coming to a clean and cool room after our day. I will stay here again.

My stay was very comfortable. This older style hotel was clean. the staff were tentative and very professional. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Amazing beds, amazing staff, place was very clean, pool was clean as well. Everything was great. Place doesn’t have an elevator so if you travel with a lot of bags ask for a room in the lower levels.

Excellent location just 4 blocks north of Plaza Grande with great dining options down the street like La Chaya Maya and Museo de la Gastronomía Yucateca. The front desk is very courteous and responsive and the rooms are nice, clean and spacious. Best of all each room has both a fan and an AC. The only things I would cite as negatives are: 1) the property is older and so doesn’t have an elevator (more a problem for people on the 3rd and 4th floors, 2) the beds do not have night tables or nearby AC outlets, 3) the window shades are translucent which results in the room being flooded with light at 5:30 AM and 4) parking is limited and spaces are tight so that getting in and out can be a challenge. Nonetheless this is a great economical option that is well located within the historic center next to many of the best things to see and experience in Merida. Recommended.
