Stayed here 16th and 17th of May.On the way back from Edinburgh to, it Devon.Fabulous find.20 mins by car to Berwick.Stone threwIsland Bamburgh. Old Coaching Inn.Dates to 1700,s.A Lady greats you serves in restaurant and is always here to please. Wonderful room.Cosy.Quiet.Bath fab.Original windows.Meals are good bit don't expect London Micheline style meals. Clean friendly.Would love to return. Some comments are quite offensive on the Review. If you are a Corporate style person go on to Newcastle. If you want friendly good accommodation and a place with character, this is for you. PS Keep the Church Chimming, it is wonderful.

Terrible experience went for a booked evening meal only to arrive to be told no meals as they we're having chef problems as in no chef. So not got the confidence to book again. What more can be said the residents weren't being catered for too. What a debacle

Cycling from Newcastle to Edinburgh this was our second stop on route and I was tired, sore and hungry on arrival. The hotel is in a great location, (despite the 17:1 hill climb up from the old A1,) in the middle of the village. We had a hot bath and relaxed in a bright clean room. I had raised concern as all the rooms as per friendly and I did want a pet free room as I have asthma brought on by contact with animals. Often I have problems staying in places that allow pets. However the room had been thoroughly cleaned and I had no issues . The hotel is old and could do with some TLC, however the staff are lovely, welcoming and this along with the building's charm make it a lovely place to stay. We did enjoyed a hearty delicious meal in the restaurant too. Thank you.

Such a shame beautiful location and building in desperate need of a refurbishment and inves**ent. Bathroom filthy, see photos. Kitchen extraction needs cleaning as whole building smells of burnt old fat.

Stayed here on a two night short break and, given the negative reviews on this site, my experience was very pleasant. Yes the hotel is dated and could do with some refurbishment and the plumbing was interesting. However, the welcome by all of the staff, the cleanliness of the rooms and a fine breakfast more than made up for the shortfalls. Would I stay here again - definitely. Value for money.

We have stayed here several times in the past. This was our first return in 4 years and the place has been left to decay. Only one member of staff was working..she was great, but had to run the bar,the reception, and the restaurant. The bedroom was awful. Creaking floors, a dirty bathroom and toilet. The shower hose was loose..the bed sagged in the middle. The once amazing gardens have been seriously neglected and now overgrown with broken glass and rubbish everywhere. Breakfast was poor and the room was dirty. Food that had dropped on the floor stayed where it lay for the two days we were there.. The once bustling bar was very quiet so we went over the road to the local pub where we were told that even the locals avoid the hotel now. Such a shame that it's been allowed to deteriorate

We arrived after a days walking in a cold North wind and found the room to be somewhat shabby and cold. The window did not fit properly and although there was a radiator it was only lukewarm. There was an ominous notice in the bathroom giving an excuse for less than hot water - apparently the age of the building! On going down to supper we found that the restaurant was closed and in the rather miserable bar several dishes were unavailable. We decided to take the car to nearby Banburgh where we had an excellent meal. Breakfast was fine.

We love this hotel. It's old, it has fantastic history and it's quirky. Not the first time we've stayed there and it won't be the last. If you want the souless newness of a Travel lodge, then don't come here. The floorboards creak, the window shutters don't quite close fully - so what ? The bed was huge and very comfortable, the heating worked and the water was hot. Food and service excellent. We'll be back !
