I am so glad we changed our reservation to only one night! Wish we moved into the next town and skipped it all together! The reviews on the website are inflated. This place has seen better days and appears to be very affected by lack of staff(there is none, self check in). We were on the 3rd floor, a long trudge with suitcases up very dirty and threadless carpeted stairs. The sheets looked dirty. Couch looked like something you would find on the side of the road. Big stain in the bedroom carpet, do no walk barefoot! Could not open a window and loud air conditioning next to bed went on and off all night which made it harder to hear the sounds of ? Nice,/rats chewing! We sat in the library during the evening which was the best spot. Restaurant for dinner was closed and only 1 open restaurant in town which was packed. The 1 refrigerator is for all guests. 1 coffee Keurig provided and a case of less than desirable item of which the sign said you could take 2. Front door is kept unlocked (sign says not to lock it or you will lock other guests out!) . Not secure! Sadly, this place was so bad it was laughable. It does has potential but needs slot if work and and rat traps!

The best part was the comfort of the bed and the soft sheets! But, I was very disappointed on how run down the building is. It wasn't until I made the reservation that I found out they no longer serve breakfast and the restaurant adjoining was closed. They did provide some packaged goodies for breakfast, but even that was not good (mold in the banana bread). Needs to be upgraded for sure. I think COVID was hard on them.

“Sign sign everywhere a sign. Do this don’t do that can’t you read the sign” Signs are needed because it is completely a self serve inn. Was the inn cutesy. Sure, but once you look past that it was extremely dirty. The front lobby carpet was black but was suppose to be a maroon. The stairs to the room upstairs were ragged and torn. The room bed sheets and comforter both had multiple stains. A bra was left in the closet along with a dried piece of bread under the chair. They advertise a restaurant on the premises but fail to tell you they are closed on Monday. Monticello doesn’t have much available to eat so plan accordingly. The inn definitely does not deserve the current rate. Replace the carpet, sheets and comforter and clean and inspect the rooms better and it may merit a decent rating.

Enjoyed the quaint ambiance, the bed was comfortable. The online picture did not match the room. The barn-style door to the bathroom needs a handle of some sort both in and out. The bathroom switchplate was not screwed into the wall. The breakfast room had no water--we travel with our own tea and coffee, but there was a water cooler/heater with no water. There were oatmeal and cup of noodles available as complimentary options along with a microwave, but again no water. The Granary was only open for dinner, and quite understaffed. The detailed instructions made us feel as though we were staying with a fussy old aunt. "leave the place better than you found it"--but no way to clean a table, no bleach bucket in the "breakfast" room. Maybe the fussy old aunt has trouble keeping help. Would not stay here again.

The carpet smelled extremely strange and musty, there was almost nonexistent customer service, not enough towels for the number of people lodging, and when additional towels and toilet paper were requested the woman we spoke to never followed through with bringing the items. There were stains on the sheets and the bunk bed was very rickety. I cannot emphasise enough that we saw an actual employee *once*. It looked ok on *******, but it’s very overpriced for what you actually get.

It’s unfortunate that the hotel no longer serves breakfast. There is no staff on property and don’t plan on your room getting made or provisions being restocked on a multiple night stay. We made an attempt to contact property staff via text message, they were unresponsive. If you want more than one cup of coffee, you have to pay for it. Led light bulbs in antique fixtures were annoying. A softer bulb would be ideal. Our stay had so much potential but ultimately the experience came up short.

This place should be shutdown, ie bulldozed/leveled. We spent 2 nights and never saw a front desk person ever, even on arrival. We called for room service - no return call. No housekeeping for our entire stay. The couch and chair in our room #4 needs to be tossed, not only were they old, but smelled as well. The rug was very old and thread bear. The bathroom door did not stay close. The mattress on the bed sagged in the middle. The stairs were extremely steep to room #4 and there was no assistance with luggage. We will never return. Also, the web site is not accurate by any means.

We stayed 2 nights in this wonderful B&B in Monticello. I would recommend it highly. Quiet just off of the highway but close to the gas station and convenience mart. It was perfect for us. Several common areas. The room had a shower and a claw-foot bathtub! I prefer showers... The Granary restaurant next door is open for Dinner only while we were there. Charles and Dalton were very nice and did a great job in making us feel very comfortable in that place. We will definitely stay there again on our way up that direction. Put this on your must-stay list!

What a nice surprise!!!! I have been travelling this way from Denver to Phoenix for years, but I never had the chance to stop in Monticello. The Grist Mill is really quite nice and cozy for a short or long stay. The rooms are beautifully done and very clean. The bathrooms are well appointed and spacious. What a neat conversion! It's like staying at a museum (in a good way)! I will definitely be back. Oh, and I also ate at the restaurant. Excellent food and service. Staff were outstanding, very friendly, and seemed to enjoy their work. Great restaurant as well!! Thanks much.
