Hotel Krone

We arrived in a coach group. We went to our room which smelled awful, like blocked drains/sewer. We mentioned it to the receptionist and said we would see what it was like a bit later. (We weren’t the only couple to have this problem). We had dinner and I told the receptionist it was really bad and we weren’t happy. She said would look into it. I went looking for her and was told she had gone for the day and no other receptionist was on duty. I spoke to other staff members & the waiter came to the room. He told me they get the smell like this when the rooms haven’t been used for awhile. He suggested we flush the toilet and keep the tap running. We had the tap running overnight (I took my hearing aids out so couldn’t hear it but my other half did hear it). The smell was putrid and we hardly slept all night. The next morning I spoke to the other receptionist and she said she had a message about the room & said there hadn’t a room available the previous night. (We found out from fellow travellers that the room we were finally found had been empty so we were lied to). Communication would have been nice and the receptionist should have got back to me. We went on our trip and when we came back we were told there was no smell now. But we still insisted on being moved. The receptionist had to make a phone call for permission for us to move. If the staff know that there is a problem they should deal with it before guests arrive. It shouldn’t have been our responsibility to run the tap all night. This really ruined our first night.
