On getting there, no reception as the reception sign points at at a wall, so we had to walk through busy bar to get room key, then told fully booked for dinner, as guests we were then left to wait a long time for cold and soggy pies. Might have been better than breakfast had we decided to wait over 40 mins in the morning to get it. previous customers had left theirs uneaten, ran out of juice, and unusual to have a very specific only 1 hour breakfast served between 8.30-9.30 rule, not sure if that includes the waiting for it. But you’d expect everything to be ready to serve if that’s the case. Usual British polite reply though as the previous confrontation a brave customer had with the manager was dealt with the previous night in a highly inappropriate and unnecessary manner by the manager. Keep an open mind and feel free to decide for yourself, however I would highly recommend….anywhere else…

Very disappointing stay and can't believe this place is rated very good on here. On check in was advised dinner was available until 8pm and when went to the restaurant was advised couldnt have dinner. Only when stating that had just checked in did this position change. Dinner was cold and very disappointing and saw how the owner dealt with another complaint at another table. Sat at breakfast for over 30 minutes after ordering and eventually gave up and left without any. Requested some orange juice and was informed they had run out!!!

Enjoyed the lunch deal with my family (£10 for meal and drink). Great food, I had a burger. We were given lovely friendly and attentive service. So child friendly, a great toy box which my 2yr old thoroughly enjoyed! Great to see live music and family events advertised too.

Probably one of the busiest days of the year for staff, Mother's Day! But a warm welcome and despite being full with families looking after mums a place was found for us to enjoy a cup of tea after being out in the rain and cold wind. Staff v friendly and helpful a real credit to the establishment. Well worth popping in for a bite to eat if you're in Rothbury, we didn't stay there on this trip but we'll be doing that soon on our next jaunt to Northumberland.

The car park had more pot holes than the surface of the moon, the Queens Head on entering was old and grimy, there where no staff, I had ti seek then out, even then the staff member was not a permanent staff member and kept saying that she did not have a clue. Eventually we went up to a very grimy depressing room, 2 old single beds pushed together to make one bed, the coffee making facility turned out to be an okd silver kettle, the carpet was very old and heavily stained, there was no way I was staying there 1 night never mind 2

Me & a few friends stopped here for some food after walking simonside hills. It is a lovely cosy pub with a great restaurant. We had a few different items of the lunch menu and they were all delicious. I would definitely recommend this pub to all!

My wife & I went to the Queen's Head for a valentine's night meal and we weren't disappointed! New management that have brought a fresh approach, really pleasant and engaging. Food on the set menu was a little restrictive but this was overheard and we were then offered just about the full main evening menu. Venison & bacon pie & the shepherds pie were both to die for and we couldn't have been happier. Sadly no room for a pudding but that is testament to the mains! We went early so left before the live music but seemed a nice touch and I'm sure it would have been a great watch. Overall very impressed and I'm glad to see the Queens is putting itself back on the map. We will definitely be back, good job.

PROSPECTIVE VISITORS BEWARE. I will never go here again. I say this with a heavy heart because this place used to be a fantastic place for Sunday lunches and used to be always full, and was the place to go to in this town. I'll admit it has been quite a while since I last visited this establishment, but It is a shame a place has become what we experienced. We visited on 19/11/2023 and booked our table online. We arrived 5 minutes before our table reservation. We explained to a pleasant young lady ( waitress ) that we had booked online and was told that the on-line booking system was never checked but not to worry as they had tables available. They had loads, which was a big suprise as this place always used to be chocka block. ( full ) We were shown to a table which was next to a radiator. There was only 2 other tables occupied in the room. When the waitress came to take our drinks order, I asked if the heating was on as it was cold, to which she said it wasn't. She came back with our drinks and told us that the heating not being on was an oversight but the manager was putting it on now. The waitress took our order and we both chose the roast beef and an extra side of roast potatoes. The meals came about 15 minutes later which comprised as 2 plates with roast beef, a little mash, a couple of roasters, and a Yorkshire pudding, accompanied by a bowl of mixed veg of carrots, cabbage and brocoli. The side dish of 6 roasters cost £4.50. The meal, well here goes. The vegetables were all undercooked. The cabbage must have had a dip in boiling water as it was raw. Same with carrots. The beef, was like chewing shoe leather. The waitress came over and asked if we were enjoying our meal and sadly I had to tell her no, our reasons why and our observations. She apologised, went away and came back and offered us some more beef or chicken, which we declined, as we felt that what we would have received would have been no better than the first. It wasn't her fault the food was bad, it was the chef's. We got the bill, £37 plus quid for the 2 lunches, one side and 2 soft drinks. I touched the radiators before we left, still frozen. The manager never even bothered to put the heating on. Even the penguins in the corner started to walk out because of the coldness of the place. This place used to be so good. How can acplace go so downhill? Apparently the Newcastle Arms in Rothbury is the new place to go to fir Sunday lunches.

Went for a meal as Cragside was shut when we got there. We were pleasantly surprised as how nice the restaurant looked. We mustn’t have been in since 2018. The decor and the ambience was lovely. The menu was good and I could find loads to choose from. Service was good. Lovely girl very pleasant. Food was excellent. I never knew you could stay there but would’ be interested in this after having a good experience in the restaurant. Only little pointer was Get some battery operated lights or candles on that beautiful fireplace. Would make it look even cosier. Hoping to return before Christmas! 👏👏👏
