PROSPECTIVE VISITORS BEWARE. I will never go here again. I say this with a heavy heart because this place used to be a fantastic place for Sunday lunches and used to be always full, and was the place to go to in this town. I'll admit it has been quite a while since I last visited this establishment, but It is a shame a place has become what we experienced. We visited on 19/11/2023 and booked our table online. We arrived 5 minutes before our table reservation. We explained to a pleasant young lady ( waitress ) that we had booked online and was told that the on-line booking system was never checked but not to worry as they had tables available. They had loads, which was a big suprise as this place always used to be chocka block. ( full ) We were shown to a table which was next to a radiator. There was only 2 other tables occupied in the room. When the waitress came to take our drinks order, I asked if the heating was on as it was cold, to which she said it wasn't. She came back with our drinks and told us that the heating not being on was an oversight but the manager was putting it on now. The waitress took our order and we both chose the roast beef and an extra side of roast potatoes. The meals came about 15 minutes later which comprised as 2 plates with roast beef, a little mash, a couple of roasters, and a Yorkshire pudding, accompanied by a bowl of mixed veg of carrots, cabbage and brocoli. The side dish of 6 roasters cost £4.50. The meal, well here goes. The vegetables were all undercooked. The cabbage must have had a dip in boiling water as it was raw. Same with carrots. The beef, was like chewing shoe leather. The waitress came over and asked if we were enjoying our meal and sadly I had to tell her no, our reasons why and our observations. She apologised, went away and came back and offered us some more beef or chicken, which we declined, as we felt that what we would have received would have been no better than the first. It wasn't her fault the food was bad, it was the chef's. We got the bill, £37 plus quid for the 2 lunches, one side and 2 soft drinks. I touched the radiators before we left, still frozen. The manager never even bothered to put the heating on. Even the penguins in the corner started to walk out because of the coldness of the place. This place used to be so good. How can acplace go so downhill? Apparently the Newcastle Arms in Rothbury is the new place to go to fir Sunday lunches.
