Best Hotels in Paramaribo

Hotel Palacio took great care of us during a stressful travel period. We were traveling from Georgetown Guyana (where my phone was stolen) to three different destinations on different travel schedules. Hotel Palacio helped us coordinate our travel (to and from the international and local airports) in taxis and busses. They made us feel safe and secure in a very comfortable and homey environment. And they take VISA. All things two American couples are looking for when they arrive in Paramaribo. I highly recommend staying here

Spacious rooms, very fine beds. The swimming pool is warm, so doesn't cool, but the showers at the pool are compensating this happy. Restaurant is good and has a wide choice. On Sunday afternoon there is a dj at the pool with music too loud to me, but then you can move away from... one of the other locations. Good service that baggage hotel can stay at several days excursions outside Paramaribo. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good and a lot of choice.

I had a perfectly pleasant stay at this Courtyard. Nice, simple and modern room. Overall better than an average Courtyard in the U.S. The location won't work for everyone though - the hotel is a bit out of town. We had a rental car (from Hertz), so the location wasn't an issue. There's also Avis car rental next to the hotel, but I couldn't price it up through the Avis website so not sure if it's open (if it is, I'd take a taxi form the airport to the hotel and rent a car from there). More generally, we really liked Suriname - super friendly people, we generally felt safe, the food was delicious, prices weren't crazy. All of this in stark contrast to Guyana. It seems that most countries don't need a visa to enter, but you still need to pay the entry fee online. I read multiple reports saying that you can no longer do it on arrival at PBM or ORG airport - this wasn't true as a couple of passengers from my flight were paying the entry fee on arrival at ORG (September 2023). You also need a yellow fever vax certification - this was checked by the airline at check-in. Another hopefully helpful tip - Transguyana Airlines runs 3 flights a day between the small regional airport in Paramaribo (Zorg en Hoop - airport code ORG) and its equivalent in Georgetown (Ogle - airport code OGL). These are super convenient as the main international airport in both Georgetown and Paramaribo is an hour away from the city. Note that these flights were not coming up on Kayak or *******, but were easy to book through the airline's website. FWIW, there was also a flight from PBM to OGL which may be helpful for those arriving at the main airport in Paramaribo and connecting to Georgetown. The flight itself is on a small 12-seater (Cessna Caravan) which is fun on its own. I wish I had more time in Suriname - what a fascinating country!

This is a nice, basic, spacious apartment, located at a small alley in North Paramaribo neighborhood. Full kitchen, and good shower pressure with ample hot water. There is a laundry room at the ground floor if you need to use it. The location of Rachel's Apartment is very good: - Safe residential neighborhood with supermarkets, cafes and restaurants. Fine to walk day and night, unlike the downtown area which can be a little seedy after night falls. - 10 min walk to the Historic Inner City of Paramaribo - 10 min walk to 2 covid testing sites (MyLab and MeDiLab) It is best to reach out to the proprietor by whatsapp before you arrive with your ETA to ensure someone is there to check you in. He owns two apartments in the same area and therefore may not always be around to greet you. There is also a security guard onsite 7 PM-7 AM that can allow guests in after hours.

In Paramaribo zijn er meerdere mooie plekken om te verblijven. Dit is niet mijn eerste verblijf in Suriname. Dit keer heb ik ervoor gekozen om Torarica Royal te ervaren. Ik heb de luxe garden kamer geboekt. Ik kreeg een kamer met 1 palmboom en een uitzicht op de parkeerplek. Ik heb gevraagd om een andere kamer te regelen, anders annulering en ga ik wel elders. Ik kreeg een betere kamer. Wel mooie en ruime kamer met een balkoon. Gelukkig maar, want het mag wel voor dat geld. Let wel op: niet alle kamers zijn voorzien van een balkoon. Dus een tip: boek je een kamer in Torarica Royal, boek een kamer met een uitzicht naar een zwembad. Alle kamers op alle verdiepingen zijn gewoon beter qua uitzicht. Het eten is niet goedkoop, maar fantastische presentatie en de bediening is subliem. Het ontbijt is zeer matig. In betaalbare hotels in Paramaribo heb je veel beter ontbijt. Het zwembad is 1.75 diep en de trap is erg hoog. Mocht je fysiek beperking hebben, kun je dus niet zwemmen en is niet geschikt voor kinderen. Als gaat van Royal mag je ook gebruik maken van het zwembad in Torarica Resort. Maar deze was dicht , in ieder geval toen ik er was, kon ik geen gebruik van maken. Wellicht beperkt open? De locatie is natuurlijk goed, midden in het hartje centrum. Oh ja, als je taxi van en naar Torarica neemt, is deze direct duurder. Al met al, geen t****e keer voor mij. Very nice hotel, very clean. The owners are charming and breakfasts are copies. Located near restaurants. and a few steps from the old neighborhood. The atmosphere is familiar and a bar is located in the hotel. Excellent
