I would like to open with that it was the first time I have been to the Dominican Republic and it will not be our last !!! The Dominican people are so friendly and were so helpful every where we went in the city of Puerto Plata, but especially on the Sunscape resort, during our 3 weeks of vacationing in paradise. Our amazing DR experience started when we were greeted and picked up at the POP Airport by Amstar and transported to the resort without any delays. Upon arrival, Nicole and her team in the Sun Club Lounge had everything ready in advance for Linda and I to check in prior to our arrival, this made checking in a fast and enjoyable experience, as we received a warm towel and a welcome beverage. JuanPablo and Daniel then escorted us and our luggage to our incredible room in the Sun Club area. This was our very first time to enjoy the Sun Club experience while staying at Hyatt/UVC Sunscape All-inclusive Resort in Puerto Plata , and it will not be our last. The friendly professional service and attention to detail was provided on a regular basis, by all of the staff members like our housekeeper Yojainoy, and in the staff in the food and drink area like Carlos (aka: Happy Happy), Luis, John, and all the other servers we met along the way. These people also provided some excellent room service. I am a Gold Plus UVC Founding Member who has vacationed at a lot of All-inclusive Resorts in various countries throughout the Caribbean and Mexico during my life, with the desired preference over the past 10 years being one of the Hyatt/UVC Brand resorts. It is with this travelling experience background, that I can say with confidence, that the Sunscape Puerto Plata resort is worth looking at for a Fun, Enjoyable vacation destination. It is not a new resort but it is a great place to vacation. The one strong recommendation Linda and I both had for the resort is to get control of the smokers and enforce smoking in the tobacco smoking areas (that are located all over the resort) because on more than one occasion I heard a large number of different guests as well as I personally felt that people who were smoking were not respecting nonsmoking people or the grounds of the resort !!! Staffers should encourage and enforce that smoking is done in the numerous smoking areas located around the resort and Not while in the pool or when enjoying the sunshine around the pool deck. Especially when your wife has asthmatic symptoms. Even though staff would work diligently to try and clean/sweep up after the smokers, cigarette butts just thrown on the ground throughout the resort and drink glasses full of butts along the edge of the pool are not making the vacation experience pleasant for anyone. Other than the smoking issue, the resort is amazing. We like the size and all of the resort offerings. Team Sun Club made all the difference to make our vacation experience a memorable one. Please know that it’s our intention to return to Sunscape Puerto Plata in the ne

Disappointed and disgusted! Service was very poor, roaches in room, birds eating from the addl upgraded $45 per night Club VIP buffet containers! Food was very basic and gross. Same food offered daily at the snack bar and buffet that simply sat out for extended periods of time. The Asian restaurant and Italian restaurants were subpar, the wait times for food were too long. Appetizers and desserts were the same as what was offered in the buffet. Limited pescatarian options. Oh and they expected ppl to purchase wine selections to go with these subpar meals. What a joke! Poor and unprofessional service-for complaints….staff tried to say that we had a huge a ROACH in our room bc it’s the Caribbean and talked down to us saying “maybe you don’t know” this is how it goes. Hmmm not where I’m from or where I’ve been. Management was no where to be found, staff Rafealina (assistant manager) lied and said they weren’t there and then said they were in meetings. Rafaelina refused to provide us a copy of document of our refund (still awaiting refund ) because we wouldn’t sign a document holding them harmless for our experience. Staff (Sulermy) threatened we’d be move out of our 1 queen bedroom room w Club access for complaining about poor quality and bugs. Pool had dirt rings around it. A ladder into the pool was broken. Little to no entertainment, boring / dead a**osphere. The pool area has entertainment 1 x a day at like 4-5pm. Otherwise, no music or anything going on at the pool. Old and broken lounge chairs. Ghost town after 10pm. Everything closes. Club bar closes and there’s no entertainment. Beach overrun but vendors trying to sell you stuff or services. Security allows them into the roped off area to harass guests. You have to leave the beach to grab a drink from the bar - jordin came around 1 day to take drink orders. Even though there’s space and setup area for food service, there is no food service options near the beach so you have to walk all the way to the resort. Starling, tall man at entrance, coffee barista staff and Jordin were the best staff there, friendly and outgoing. They should definitely find another resort to work for!!! This place should be demolished.

We have been here many times. It’s always been one of our favourites. It’s clean, people are great, food is ok, with decent selections, and 3 good choices for a la carte restaurants. They have an interactive restaurant as well. Sun club is usually worth it in my opinion. Unfortunately, the resort was closing the day we checked out. We could tell that our usual service and expectations were less than normal. Which we understood. Overall it was still a nice resort to visit

Excellent resort- beautiful scenery and flowers. The staff at the Sunclub were excellent especially Julissa and Nichole. Elizabeth at the buffet great service and always knew what you needed. The Coco Cafe was great - the cappuccinos were fantastic. So sad that Sunscape is closing.

No Wi-Fi in the rooms unless you pay to upgrade for vip, buffet was bad, a/c was set to 60 degrees or off there was no in between, the a/c smelled funny, Balcony had no lights, smaller pool was nice, the whole resort was small not much entertainment and a la carte restaurants options were closed most days only got to try the Japanese one and it was really good but it sucks nothing was open. Beach was close and super dead which was nice and relaxing. But overnight security was on our butts telling us to hurry up and stop playing pool around 12am-1am when there was no signs or anything saying we couldn’t play. Like we are at a resort to have fun and relax they acted like it was a residential area. A lot of the staff were very nice but the cafe ladies were RUDE and how is there no iced coffeee or milk alternatives. Probably won’t be going back here or recommending this spot to anyone unless they’re a local and staying for the weekend because apparently that’s when it gets the craziest.

We found stale, slimy and smelly watermelon and beans in the buffet multiple times. We also saw completely dried up pancakes and other meat and items like chicken coz they were directly placed on a hot surface. Other than food, the place was clean and reasonably priced.
