There are many budget motels on the stretch of Lombard Street between Lyon and Van Ness. It's not a bad area to stay, because there is easy access by car to other areas of the city and it's a short walk to the restaurants on Chestnut Street in the Marina. The Inn at Golden Gate is tucked on the quiet end of Lombard between Lyon and Baker, which means it is one block further away from the traffic going to and from the bridge: it's quieter than most of Lombard. It's nicely walkable to the Palace of Fine Arts and the splendid Lyon Street Steps. The motel advertises free parking, but there are only eight spaces for twenty or so rooms. Street parking is available, but you have to hunt a little and read the signs abut hours and enforcement (weekends, you're good). The property is a little worn, but the price was agreeable. Service was adequate. The room was clean; mattress was fine; TV worked well; refrigerator was a little larger than usual for a motel room. Overall, we had a good experience.
