Our stay at this hotel was a blend of highs and lows. On the upside, our room was spacious, stylish, and exceptionally clean, complemented by a stunning view from the restaurant. However, the hotel's location on a steep hill was a significant drawback. Without Uber service due to the incline, we faced a challenging ascent equivalent to ten stories to reach our room, half of it without the aid of a ramp, which made carrying our luggage quite difficult. The lack of an elevator in such a tall property was a surprising oversight, and in our opinion, this should be clearly indicated on booking platforms as a caution to future guests. The sole restaurant's open-air setting, while picturesque, detracted from our dining experience, especially during breakfast and dinner, as we were subject to the whims of the weather and temperature. We also encountered issues with the staff's aggressive upselling tactics. With the hotel being almost vacant, they allocated us what seemed like the worst room available and then requested an additional 1000 MXN pesos for a room with a better view. Another concerning point was the absence of a fire alarm in our room, raising serious questions about the hotel's commitment to safety. In conclusion, while the room quality and scenic views were impressive, our overall experience was dampened by these significant drawbacks. The hotel's lack of basic amenities and the staff's pushy sales tactics left us feeling more like sources of revenue than valued guests.

The San Miguel de Allende Toy museum has a wonderful collection of popular art. With prize winnning pieces, this four story high jewel, just blocks up from the main square, has been ignored by tourists. Go, enjoy the amazing art pieces and marvel at the richness of Mexican folk art.

The hotel that sits atop a large hill in San Miguel has wonderful views and an extremely large terrace for each room. The views are magnificent. That is about all I can say is wonderful for this place. I have stayed in some gorgeous hotels in large cities and tourist destinations. I know boutique hotels are not the normal hotel experience, since I have stayed in them as well, but what most boutique hotels do very well is service. Ilo rojo doesn't know much of anything about service. Here are some of the things that shocked us. There was no iron or ironing board in our rooms. There was no way to get any ice (more on that later). The terraces where with beautiful views were just that. They had one cheap patio table, with a umbrella stand (more on that later) and a metal bar for a fabric canopy, which was missing. So if you want to enjoy the terrace/veranda during the day, good luck. The heat will run you off quickly. Now to the service. After a wonderful time in the city, we wanted to get some beverages we bought at a market to enjoy in our rooms on the terrace/veranda at night but couldn't find any ice or cups in the room. So I called for some sort of cups and was told they would see what they could do. About 20 minutes later I was rewarded with 2 plastic cheap cups. Ok, no big deal. I needed at least 4. So I went down 4 levels (by stairs) to the bar and asked for 2 more cups and a cup of ice. I was told there was no ice at the bar so they would have to get some and bring it up. Never heard back from them again. It was later, so I decided to just forget about it. Next morning we went to breakfast at the hotel restaurant, again on outdoor terrace at the bottom of the hotel. It took over 15 minutes for someone to come over. After ordering coffee and breakfast, we watched the waitress/bartender roam around and deliver some items to each of the various tables but not complete orders. It took over 30 minutes to get coffee and we actually received our food before the coffee for the 4 of us that we ordered before food. In fact, 1 person received their order, then 10 minutes later then another person and lastly, I received my order about 15 minutes after everyone else in my group. What kind of restaurant delivers orders 1 at a time when each item is ready. Next, the pool which is smaller than most people's bathrooms (in the US), has to be reserved by the hour. It was sad. However, we had a kid in our group and we thought it would be great to have him swim a little. We also thought since we had some beverages from the night before, we could hang out by the miniature pool for a bit and indulge in a few drinks. Again, we asked for some ice from the concierge. The concierge went to the bartender and bartender told the concierge something and they both walked past me to the other members of our party to tell them beverages were not allowed at the pool. Could have told me that while I was standing there asking the for the ice. This was little irritating

Nice hotel. Too many steps. The rooms are ample but need more furniture. Ther is no desk or table, room service were not where yo put tray and dishes. Nice amenities but no body wash. Good internet, safe and bathrobe in the room, but no fridge. Food was very good. Abut 30 steps to get to the room. The suites have a good terrace.

First time I go to a 4 stars hotel and I got stoned!!! Not expecting that experience…it was two days after I received the Holy Sacrament of the Matrimony…I found out the place on line and I just went by the name…I didn’t care the price…it was pricey! I arrived in a rainy and cold evening! I was sent to the cold restaurant to wait! There my spouse and I ordered some coffee and sweets! Then, they seem forgot about us, so I went to ask and it’s how finally they allow us to Check in. Once we were in our room, we went back to the restaurant and no one was there and it was cold so we when back to the room and ordered room service! The tacos smelled good, but they were cold. Then, the heater was Broken!!! Instead of give us a new room they let us borrow a noisy heater! We were so tired and not able to turn it off until about 4 am (thanks to my husband). We noticed the hotel is far from the plaza, after walking out the centro to purchased souvenirs then hired a taxi whom was kind enough to bring us up to the hotel.

My husband and I stayed in San Miguel de Allende for 2 days. The hotel is located in a hillside away from the busy city center. Be aware, there is a lot of climbing of hills and stairs, but the staff tries to be as accommodating as possible. Ermenegildo at the front desk was very warm and accommodating and made out check in process very easy. We were upgraded to the best room at the hotel and the room was huge! It was more like an apartment feel which I loved. The room had a large terrace for sipping on your morning coffee or drinks. Everything is walking distance from the hotel (about a mile at most) but again there is a lot of up and down hill. Cabs are very easy to access by the hotel.

Ilo Rojo is located on a hilly mountain area in San Miguel. We were about 40 of us who were part of bus tour and we didn't know that the large bus does not go down that road. Need a medium size bus or Uber to get up to the hotel. Some of us went up the hill to get to the lobby area and others got an Uber to get up half way closer to the hill where the cars are allowed and then climb the steps to get to the lobby. Again, once checked-in you could be any room that requires more climbing or not, some have better views of the city than others. Small restaurant limited menu, however, they were able to accommodate special needs like vegetarian and gluten free meals and accomodating

I stayed at the Ilo Rojo hotel from Oct 13th thru 16th. I arrived really late on Wednesday night so the restaurant was closed. One of the staff went around the corner to get me tacos. They were delicious. My room was very comfortable, clean and was exactly what I needed. The views from the bar/restaurant are beautiful. I would sit out when I returned from my day and just look out over the city. When I needed a COVID test the Mgr arranged to have a company come to the hotel so I didn't have to go anywhere but the comfort of my room. He even printed out my results for me that afternoon. I will stay there again on my return.
