The pictures on the website were nothing like what we saw when we arrived. Room was okay. The room was not worth what we paid. They charged us the old owners prices which was more than their current prices. We stayed in a city centre hotel which was nicer the following couple of nights and cost less. Staff were nice. Bar meal was okay. Will not go back.

This is the first time that we have eaten here since the new owners, at the start of the year. The food was absolutely great. There is a fine range of beers, and the people are friendly. It is some years since this was a decent local. Now we intend to come here regularly

Don't be put off by the run down exterior of this village pub which has been through tough times over the past couple of years. New managers have arrived (December 2023) and are doing an amazing job and were extremely welcoming. Stopped for coffee but ended up having a fruit crumble which was probably the best I've ever had in a pub/restaurant. The exterior is due for a complete refurb this year which should help get the pub back on its feet.

Luckily we only stayed at the Pack Horse for 1 night. We arrived early evening after spending 6.5 hours on the road. They immediately took payment for the rooms and then told us the kitchen was closed so no meals that evening and also they do not serve breakfast. After asking if there were any restaurants in the village, we were told we could order a takeaway or there was a grill across the road for burgers and kebabs. On booking I thought no meal plan with our room meant we could pay separately for dinner and breakfast? Anyway we found a very nice hotel/restaurant called the Station House around the corner where we had dinner, Pack Horse didn't mention this option. Next our rooms. Dated, in need of serious redecoration. The bathroom had a macerator which started up every time you turned on a tap, shower or the loo and was very noisy, which I'm sure could be heard by neighbouring rooms. The photo's shown on the Pack Horse web site didn't show our room! So we can only assume that room 4 is still yet to be refurbished? Would not stay here again.

Absolutely awful experience, booked through *********** to be told when we arrived that the pub had been taken over and even though we were clearly written in the diary, they wouldn't honour the booking or provide a refund. No explanation why they let our room go and left us stranded there with poor excuses.

Despite us paying a £75 deposit for a two night stay back in March for a wedding in June, and the booking clearly being written in their reservation diary, they did not have any rooms free and would not refund our deposit, claiming they had recently taken over. Whilst the staff were friendly, more could have been done in this situation. Luckily the Station House up the road were able to make room for us, and we were so glad they did, really lovely atmosphere and nicer place in all. So every cloud has a silver lining.

Wow! What a difference with the new regime. Immediately you walk into the pub/hotel you are met with cheerful happy staff and an amazing atmosphere. The carefully chosen selection of ales and drinks are presented in perfect condition and the food is superb. I cannot imagine anyone having a bad experience at this much, much improved village facility. Ade, Sarah, Emily, Poppy and Adam are very professional, very accommodating (excuse the pun) and provide a truly satisfying visit. The clientele are now returning and there is a friendly feel as soon as you walk in. There will be theme nights for a variety of international food tastes i.e Indian, Greek, Italian, Mauritian, French, etc and the food; you know will be of excellent quality. Well done Ade and Sarah.

The most vulgar red-faced drunkard of a landlord has taken over called Adi.. Chauvinistic hostile ignoramus. A friend had told me how bad it had got in there with terrible food taking ages and just how rude the landlord was, but seeing was truly believing.. I think he could be running it for a 'pissed up club', for his mates... truly underwhelmed and unwelcome.. What an awful shame. Hope it changes hands again quickly.
