This was by far the nicest room/resort we have stayed in. After being cramped in many Japanese hotels and ryokans, this was much much larger with three queen/full size beds, a 65" TV and an outdoor bath (mineral salts available in the lobby). However, please understand that as this location is very remote, dining options in the area and transportation may be limited. This may be why we didn't see any foreigners there? However, they do provide pick-up service to and from the Shin-Iwakuni station depending on the room you're staying in given you contact them at least three days in advance. Although our Shinkansen was unexpectedly delayed by two hours due to rain/lightning, they patiently waited for our arrival and did not leave us stranded. Perhaps the only downside was that we only stayed two nights as I felt we could've done with some more downtime and taking advantage of the amenities including the bikes and SUPs. I hope to return again soon, staying for a longer time next time. Thank you Marissa Resort for giving us an incredible and memorable vacation!

A Hidden Paradise in Suo-Oshima I’ve stayed here multiple times when it was called the Sunshine Resort. Recently, they renovated this property and it is back to its original splendor. Definitely book an executive level room with the beach view and outdoor tub if you can. There is a free drink and appetizer lounge for executive level room customers and other perks. Ride the bikes around the island. Beautiful property and surroundings.

The website and price are impressive, but don't expect too much. The entrance is impressive, but that's to be expected since the location in front of the sea is a selling point. The room is clean, but perhaps the amenities are excessive. The post-bath drinks and ice bar are like Do-o-in imitations!? The coffee milk was delicious. Maybe they'll serve midnight noodles soon. As it was an executive room, I was looking forward to the lounge, but the food was mediocre, with only snacks for one person. I think sandwiches, salads, and ham would be good. There was nowhere to eat in the hotel at odd hours, so I got hungry. It would be nice to have a food vending machine. The breakfast was average, about 1500 yen. It would be nice if they had a seafood bowl with fresh catches from local fishermen. The French food for dinner was delicious, but the meat for the children was tough and inedible. We had an outdoor barbecue in the strong wind. The seafood was delicious and the staff was kind, but I was worried that the wind would blow it away or the fire would catch, so I couldn't enjoy my meal. In fact, the fire was fanned by the wind and it was dangerous. I wonder if they could have used the free space in the room. I think it would be better to link the service to simple things that are close to home, rather than thinking about hospitality as something formal. There is a pool, so it is a hotel that is fun for those with small children. Don't expect an executive lounge at a resort hotel overseas. For this price, I would go to a resort in Southeast Asia.

I stayed for one night from Sunday, July 21st in room 327, a "Deluxe Twin Ocean View" on the third floor. I had heard that the hotel had been renovated into a luxury resort by inviting a manager with experience in foreign hotels, so I had high expectations, but it could have been better. There are limitations to renovating an existing building, and I couldn't help but feel that the target customer base was not very well-defined. [About the guest room] The 42m2 guest room was very spacious, with blue interiors inspired by the sea, giving it an open and bright feel. There was a free minibar, carefully selected bath amenities, and other amenities, but there were some things that could have been better, such as the lack of lighting in the closet, the lack of bathrobes, the limited number of towels for a resort hotel, and the need for a bag to put wet items in. The view from the room was amazing, with the beautiful Suo-Nada Sea and islands, and I was able to sit on the sofa by the window and relax. What bothered me was that the corridor leading to the guest rooms was as hot as a steam bath, and the elevators and corridors were still designed like old family hotels, so it felt old. [About the public areas] The lobby when you enter the hotel is amazing and luxurious, but the indoor pool is like a children's playground, and the beach is not a private beach, so there are no chairs or umbrellas, and it is no different from a public beach. The all-inclusive service was quite good, and there were many things such as snacks in the welcome lounge, evening lounge service, and after-bath lounge service. The hot spring spa was clean, and the indoor bath, open-air bath, and sauna had a calm atmosphere and were very comfortable. What bothered me was that although we arrived early and left our luggage at the hotel, we had to pick it up at check-in time and carry it to our room ourselves. I wish they had at least brought it to our room. [About the meals] Dinner was a full-course French meal, which was of very high quality and tasted good, but I wish it was a little more substantial. Breakfast was a buffet, and both Japanese and Western dishes were delicious, but I wish there was something more to see, such as a live kitchen. [Overall review] The view is amazing and it's a good hotel for experiencing something out of the ordinary. In terms of value for money, it's good for people living in nearby prefectures, but if you ask me whether it's worth traveling all the way from far away, I'm not sure.
