I stayed here as part of my holiday to southern Sri Lanka. This is the most awesome experience I ever had part of my holiday. The white sanded beach is secluded paradise & Mr. Ananda with his team service was stands out. Great Value for Money and Solo travelers ideal choice is Na Room where I stayed with an iconic window opening up to the Indian Ocean.

I stayed at the last house with my family for a couple of days. It's a wonderful hotel with a sea view. Actually, we spent our vacation in the last house, and it was incredible. We enjoyed the ocean, and the rooms lived up to the good quality as mentioned in the website s photos. The staff was supportive. I hope to come back.

A disappointing expensive experience trading on the name of Geoffrey Bawa Dinners 12,900 rupees without service charge and not exceptional quality. Additional charge of 900 rupees if anyone want bacon. Moonamal advertises a sunken bath …. It is now full of pebbles. There are so many better places both to stay and eat

I have travelled in Sri Lanka a number of times... yes the beaches are lovely, but some accomodation performs little more that shelter. The Last House is the opposite - and perfectly amplifies the fabulousness of the location. the BUILDING and ROOMS: you feel the BAWA influence in all the right ways. Rooms that have a sense of space (not just large - thought they are! - but with well positioned windows, shutters and furniture that is fine and elevated off the floor). Nothing too new or contrived - and elegantly patinated (not shabby chic-style!) the GARDENS: maintained constantly and thoughtfully, and home to a raft of animals and birdlife (nothing scary! Squirrels, peacocks etc all pass through). the STAFF: they are the magic of this property - thoughtful and attentive without crowding you... perfect. They were SOOO kind to me, and at no Time did Ifeel uncomfortable as a solo-traveller. I saw the same perfect balance with a trio of travellers that arrived and stayed while I was there too. The manager - Ananda - was so kind and also a fantastic source of local knowledge, food insights, fishing stories and insights re. language... the best. His team including Shehan and Amit were incredible professional and will make anything possible. (they organised a birthday cake - and even sang for me!) I cannot wait to visit again - I highly recommend the Last house for: - retreat/ family/ low-key time-out with friends or - if you would like a low-key stay whee you can dial up or down the activity as wanted. but mostly take advantage of a magical ambience, local knowledge and an incredibly thoughtful team. ( thanks so much Ananda and team!)

We spent 4 nights here at the end of our holiday. We wanted somewhere to relax and do nothing after 5 days of safaris. The hotel is very relaxed and small with only 5 rooms. The garden is a great place to sit and enjoy the Sri Lankan weather. A very secluded beach is at the bottom of the garden. It’s about a mile long and almost deserted. It is such a beautiful spot. We had a room on the first floor with a large balcony with chairs and sun beds. The rooms are very airy, with no glass windows. You can lie in bed and listen to the Indian Ocean - very relaxing. The quality of the food is excellent. Extremely well cooked and beautifully presented. Our only negative comment relates to the small menu choice for dinner (fish, or vegetable curry). A meat choice would be a big improvement. They now serve alcohol, which I think must be a recent change. Our butler was excellent and looked after us very well. Overall, a nice place to finish our holiday.

Feel so lucky to have stayed in various small boutique properties around the world. This is definitely up with the best: Authentic, sensitively and originally designed, comfortable with a real sense of space. I totally get it. It’s also on a lovely long, unspoilt beach, ideal for daily walks and dropping into the Indian Ocean for bodyboarding. Felt totally at home, looked after by a superb, discreet team - with the gentle sound of the ocean waves in the background. It made sense to have fresh fish and wonderful local food on the menu - served either in my room, or the restaurant, and one night they organised dinner on the beach. Awesome! Hope you love The Last House too!

It was a beautiful property. The staff was very hospitable and accommodative 😊 When asked to make a butter cake for tea they obliged, and baked a yummy one 🍰 They also served us a delicious homemade kulfi for dessert (highly recommend it) 🍨 It was very clean 👍🏻 However 🫤….. 👇🏻 The overall stay was not worth the price they charged ☹️ There was no manager to ensure that we were comfortable They sent us a menu of a three course meal prior to our visit and asked us to chose what we would like to have for dinner but when we arrived they said the ingredients were unavailable and served us a basic dinner buffet which even ran short Most of the items on the menu were unavailable There was no tea/ coffee in the room ☕️ There was no wifi on the first day The blankets we received were just thin sheets They served basic meals and charged us an exorbitant amount They charged us extra to serve bacon for breakfast (none of the other hotels we’ve been to have done this) 🥓 No fresh fruits for breakfast Didn’t have basics such as a shower cap and sanitary disposals The soap had to be requested for.

Finding The Last House is a challenge. There are none of the road signs you would expect. When we arrived, we learned that's because the proprietors want to keep away unwanted visitors. You see, The Last House is quite literally the last house designed by the famed architect Geoffrey Bawa. It's a beautiful villa with five or six rooms. The property offers a comfy sitting area, a nice pool and lounge chairs facing the beach. Our room was large, with a canopied bed surrounded by mosquito netting, and two showers. We liked the outdoor one. The Last House is indeed the last house facing the beach. You'll find other boutique hotels and lots of beached fishing boats to the right. The beach is about a mile long. There's also access to a smaller beach, on a path by the rocks to the left. We had a delightful breakfast at The Last House -- fruit, juice and yogurt with granola for me and eggs with bacon for her. Ananda, the general manager, is quite friendly and will answer all of your queries.
