Lovely hotel and lovely staff, perfect for the evening to relax and recharge

My mate and I tried a ‘Locals Lazy spa day’ for our joint birthdays yesterday. I couldn’t recommend this hotel more. The afternoon tea was incredible- pastry chef Derek really outdid himself- and the Swedish back massage by masseuse Nikki was firm but fabulous! Service in the restaurant was swift and friendly too. Simply put, why would you go anywhere else in Torquay?

We stayed at the hotel for our wedding anniversary but didn’t feel the hotel was as good as we had expected. The room needed updating, things didn’t work, lamps, extraction fan, couldn’t turn off radiator, furniture tired, the bed was awful as two single pushed together which didn’t stay together so extremely uncomfortable. Reception were not overly friendly. The spa doesn’t look appealing and you have to pay £10 per person per visit even tho you are staying at the hotel which we’ve never experienced before.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for short or long stay. Location is in very good place, staff are very friendly, room wasn't too big but we just slept there. Bed is super comfy. Best sleep in month I had here.

This hotel is in a lovely location, even though very hilly. The main areas of the hotel are very pleasant though the rooms myself and friends had were very very tired. Our bathroom had a cracked sink, the shower unit was very very small. The tiles of the shower unit had been painted over some time ago and are now peeling. There were tea coffee facilities in the room.

Hotel was good , Food good, Entertainment was good, But the room we had was very dated and needed new carpet and the bathroom was in need of some work , l can't say what other rooms were like,

The reviews for the hotel were good and I wanted spa facilities for a few days R&R away from a busy family and business. I arrived to find parking was very limited and eventually parked for free in an odd little car park above the hotel. I was shown to my room (119) under ground (alarm bells ringing and only 1 old slow lift in the building) It was small and dark and looked over some scruffy flats! I asked to be moved and was given room 157 which was no better. It was a cupboard under the stairs basically! The view was a big flat roof! The room was tiny and literally filthy. Carpet not hoovered. Everything was covered in dust - lampshades, kettle, TV remote, bins, shelving and there were glass rings and sticky marks everywhere. The bathroom was tatty, mouldy, and covered in hairs. The chrome was covered in limescale. It was late at this point so I asked for my money back for the second night and the manager kindly wiped my bathroom over and gave me a free drink but I didnt even want to touch anything in the room or unpack anything, it was so unclean. I got very little sleep as the whole place creaks every time someone moves and the bathroom fan was unbelievably loud. Breakfast very basic and nothing special. On leaving and booking into the very lovely Hampton by Hilton nearby, I realised I had left some things in the wardrobe. I popped back to get them after calling beforehand. The receptionist told me she or I couldn't go to or call the room as there was someone in there. I said I needed my things back and she kept saying no! The manager eventually came (same chap as the night before) and all of a sudden there was no one in the room. She was being deliberately difficult which just about finished me off and sent me to write this review. Dont waste your money here - its tired and dirty and not worth the money! Also not good for those with mobility issues or unable to do stairs and large hills if you walk into the harbour area/town. I didnt even get an apology despite being close to tears at one point and this ruined my weekend.

We last visited here in Dec 2022 just weeks before the fire & it was lovely to see it back open. We arrived around 4pm on Easter Monday for 2 nights staying in a superior sea view room with Spa access & was checked in immediately staying in a superior sea view room with spa access. The receptionist that checked us in remembered us from our previous visit & she was very friendly & welcoming. We made use of the hydro spa & it was very relaxing. On Tuesday afternoon I enquired at reception about having a spa treatment but was told there was none available & I felt she was a little dismissive so I didn’t ask if there was any availability for the next day. There was entertainment on while we were there & it was very good on both nights. Food was choosing from a 3 course menu & was varied, hot & tasty. The staff in the restaurant & bar area were all extremely attentive & do a great job serving everyone. The waiter taking drinks orders in the restaurant was a lovely friendly guy who had a great sense of humour. We have stayed in quite a few different hotels over the last few years while visiting Torquay & Headlands will always be our choice

Good hotel, excellant service. We were given a complimentary upgrade which was lovely. Massage and beauty services were excellent. Views of the bay lovely, with some good local walks. A varied menu and good portions.
